      possibly the most inspiring book I have ever read, this is truly a story which everyone wanting to be a doctor should listen and remember.

      From throwing rocks (or something) to practicing medicine in Minnesota or somewhere - this work is about a journey of sorts. I enjoyed the book but some of the writing is a bit hokey which might just be about a generational difference between the author and myself.
      The author is obviously a proud Irish Catholic - nothing wrong with that there are just periodic references. Probably the most important thing about the author, that is expressed through his writing, is that he cares about people and his patients.

      If you’re a fan of medical memoirs then this is the book for you. The telling of a fantastic journey of guy going from being a construction worker and cab driver to an Orthopaedic surgeon at the prestigious Mayo clinic.

      Mike Collins, a demolition concrete worker from the west side of Chicago, takes a fellow crewmember's comment about his future to heart. He's a single, twenty-four year old college graduate who's still living at home. With no money he quits his job and starts a two-year pre-med program at a local college. He applies to eight medical schools and gets accepted to Loyola. I really enjoyed this book but almost gave up on it because of the rough language at the beginning. Don't make that mistake! It's definitely worth finishing!
