About this audiobook
From #1 Bestselling author Morgan Rice comes the debut of a breathtaking fantasy series.
A Quest of Heroes (Book #1 in the Sorcerer's Ring) revolves around the epic coming of age story of one special boy, a 14 year old from a small village on the outskirts of the Kingdom of the Ring. The youngest of four, the least favorite of his father, hated by his brothers, Thorgrin senses he is different from the others. He dreams of becoming a great warrior, of joining the King’s men and protecting the Ring from the hordes of creatures on the other side of the Canyon. When he comes of age and is forbidden by his father to try out for the King’s Legion, he refuses to take no for an answer: he journeys out on his own, determined to force his way into King’s Court and be taken seriously.
But King’s Court is rife with its own family dramas, power struggles, ambitions, jealousy, violence and betrayal. King MacGil must choose an heir from amongst his children, and the ancient Dynasty Sword, the source of all their power, still sits untouched, waiting for the chosen one to arrive. Thorgrin arrives as an outsider and battles to be accepted, and to join the King’s Legion.
Thorgrin comes to learn he has mysterious powers he does not understand, that he has a special gift, and a special destiny. Against all odds he falls in love with the king’s daughter, and as their forbidden relationship blossoms, he discovers he has powerful rivals. As he struggles to make sense of his powers, the king’s sorcerer takes him under his wing and tells him of a mother he never knew, in a land far away, beyond the Canyon, beyond even the land of the Dragons.
Before Thorgrin can venture out and become the warrior he yearns to be, he must complete his training. But this may be cut short, as he finds himself propelled into the center of royal plots and counterplots, ones that may threaten his love and bring him down—and the entire kingdom with him.
With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, A Quest of Heroes is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, of a sorcerer, of ambition and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I really wanted to like this book. There some engaging characters and interesting plot lines. But...the author needs to slow down or hire a better editor. She wrote "cask" rather than tankard (or mug, or goblet) and "mace" rather than a flail. Also, "he couldn't (or "could hardly") believe" became so overused as to become irritating. Other times, the person or place could use some more description so as better engage the reader and "paint a better picture". Perhaps, after a few books by other authors, I may return to see if the second book improves things.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The author has a very poor way of writing time. This entire books takes place over something like 5 days. It would have felt much less preposterous and more realistic if the author had been able to make it be more of a month... The verb yelled is used much to often. Basically a poorly written book, but an interesting listen. I would recommend it despite the annoyances I felt over the writers failings.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the story and the background and the narrator did a great job. The only negative I have is the line “he could hardly believe it” must have been said a thousand times! We get it - he was in awe but that line was used to the point it grated on my nerves every time I heard it. That being said I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A bit slow to get going, but better pacing than "Slave, Warrior, Queen". The story has an Arthurian/Scottish vibe although I feel that clashes a bit with what feels like a Shanarian dystopia vibe.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic story! Kept a good tempo through out the story. Knights , sorcery, and beasts!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The main character is written with as shy and extremely low self-esteem. Someone even mentions they might not like him, and he immediately goes in the spiral of low esteem. Also, he keeps making the worst decisions That he has to be slow or something but you keep trying to make him out to be this hero with all this power. He doesn’t even tell the kings son that he had this prophetic dream that he’s going to be poisoned in Tillys right there at the vet or he’s being poisoned I mean come on.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was not finished properly other than that it was great
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic read from start to finish! Great to listening read as well!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Storyline is oké. Not the best ever fantasy but nice and easy reading. However if you scratch out al the 'he could hardly believe' you would end up with about half the book and if you scratch out all the other 'hardly's' there would practically be no book left so that became pretty annoying pretty fast. This was the first book from this writer for me and i plan on reading the second in this serie so i hope that it gets beter. Didn't like the speaker much either, a bit to dramatic and kinda depressing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The MC seems too dumb to be a MC, I am hoping that things change in the next book. I feel that no one, not even peasants are so NAIVE in not knowing how the world works. I understand he was sheltered, but how he went about situations was very cringe. The way this ended makes absolutely no sense to me either, it felt very rushed with no explanation or context. The author probably wanted it to feel like a cliff hanger, but in my opinion it failed in that aspect. I really at no point was rooting for the MC because of how ignorant he was in this world, he put himself in a lot of these awkward situations without thinking. Overall the book felt rushed and it didn't seem like the author cared for her characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Some people may it's too fast paced but it's very well described and paints an amazing picture in your head so the fast paced tense of it was actually very good as it kept it from being really boring.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I would have given it a 5 but it ended way too abruptly.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book was clearly written for children or young adults. A strange continuity thing throughout. I won't continue the series
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well it is a great book and it was nice knowing that the boy who fought for a position was finally put in prison and all he fought for take away from him.
