About this audiobook

A wickedly dark debut thriller about three women who've all been involved with the same man and realize the one thing they have in common is that they all want revenge against him...

Divorces are often messy, and Imogen's is no exception. Phillip Rochester is controlling, abusive, and determined to make things as difficult as possible. When he shows up without warning demanding that Imogen move out of their house by the end of the month or he'll sue for sole custody of their young son, Imogen is ready to snap.

In a moment of madness, Imogen does something unthinkable—something that puts her in control for the first time in years. She's desperate to protect her son and to claim authority over her own life.

But she wasn't expecting both Phillip's ex-wife and new girlfriend to get tangled up in her plans. These three very different women—and unlikely allies—reluctantly team up to take revenge against a man who has wronged them all.

The Exes' Revenge is Jo Jakeman's debut novel.Imogen, Ruby and Naomi all have one thing in common - Phillip. Current wife Imogen desperately wants a divorce and full custody of their son. Ex wife Ruby still believes she has a connection with Pip. And girlfriend Naomi has discovered the kind of man Phillip really is....abusive, manipulating and sadistic. And he's a cop.I loved the timeline of Jakeman's storytelling. The book opens with Phillip's funeral. So we know the ending...."There are only three of us here - Naomi, Ruby and I - who know how satisfying it feels to know that Phillip Rochester got the death he deserved."....but it is the how that makes the book. That how unfolds in chapters starting twenty two days before Phillip's death and moves forward to the day of the funeral. We get to know the background of each woman with a few flashback chapters to set the tone for the present. The Exes' Revenge is not a character driven novel, but is instead driven by action. Jakeman keeps the reader on their toes with many shifts of power between the women and Phillip. And between themselves as well - can they really trust each other? For pragmatic readers, some of the plot devices will need to be taken with a grain of salt. But go with it as they absolutely work for the tale Jakeman has imagined. The Exes' Revenge was a good debut and an entertaining page turner. I can absolutely see this one as a movie.

Too many of us have exes that have not treated us well. Many of us might have even fantasized about ways to achieve revenge, but that's all they are, just fantasies. However, the women in this book not only imagined what it would be like to gain the upper hand on their ex, a man who just happens to be the man in each of their lives who made them miserable, but they have sought and gained revenge. This is a fun tale of love, revenge and the power of women who have been wronged.

It was easy to find myself cheering for the three women as they got their revenge on Phillip. He made himself very unlikeable. If there was someone that deserved to get their "just rewards" with three vengeful women, it was Phillip. Even when it was revealed the reasoning for his demeanor, it did not change my feelings towards him. When it came to the women, instantly, I got an mental image of the three women as The three women in the movie, The Other Woman starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton, and Leslie Mann. While this book is nothing like a comedy, the women just came off as kind of klutzes and just "so-so". Although, anyone finding themselves in their situation for the first time would probably come off as amateur. Despite the fact that I didn't like Phillip, I didn't bond that closely to the women either. Therefore, I only semi felt bad for them. Overall, though this is a good read. "Players be warned as a woman scorned is one to be feared".

My Review of  "The Exes' Revenge" by Jo Jakeman,  Berkley Books, Sept. 11, 2018Jo Jakeman, Author of "The Exes' Revenge" has written a twisted, intense, riveting, captivating and predictable novel. Have you ever cheered when you feel the "villain" in the story  got what is coming to him/her, and then some?? That is exactly how I felt reading this. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense. The timeline for this story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the storyThe author describes her characters as complicated , complex and dysfunctional. Be warned , this is a novel of domestic emotional and physical abuse. Phillip Rochester works in law enforcement and is less than an idea husband or boyfriend. He is domineering, threatening,  and abusive. He is still married to Imogen, and has a new girlfriend, and an ex-wife he is too friendly with. Phillip threatens Imogen to leave their house by a certain time, or he will legally show she is an unfit mother and take his son. This time, Imogen is not going to take anymore from the bully of a husband. As things tend to escalate, somehow the three women become frenemies, and are eager to dish out  some revenge of their own. Beware of betrayals, and misplaced loyalties. This in an entertaining read, and I recommend it for those readers who enjoy suspense and thrillers. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Have you been the target of a woman's scorn? Have you been a woman scorned? Even if you've been neither, you'll still love this book. It's a thriller full of dark suspense, twists, turns and a surprise ending. Three exes exacting their revenge keep it fast paced. Highly recommend.

I want to add to this review that if anyone who has ever suffered from Domestic Violence, be it verbally, physically or emotionally really should keep that in mind if they read this novel due to the subject matter. I'm a Victim's Advocate for Domestic Violence Survivors, and I found myself tense up at times.Having stated that; this is a well-written book. I liked the way the author has set the book the up. Phillip Rochester is a police officer who is very controlling and cruel to the extreme to his first two wives and his latest girlfriend. Ruby, his first wife, was quite a bit older than him and seemed to be more of a mother figure to him than a wife. She was a loner and loved animals, in fact, she was a veterinarian. Ruby left him after he took up with his present wife, Imogen. But he keeps her on a string and uses her in such a way that she can't get on with her own life even after he married his second wife, Imogen.Imogen gets the worst of his abuse it seems, she's a people pleaser, and she's tried just about everything she can think of to be a better wife to him. But nothing works with someone like him. She's called the police on Phillip, after an extremely violent beating but they seem to cover for one another, and the blame falls on her being "unstable" as he likes to describe her. He's isolated from her only friends, and she has a disapproving mother that makes her feel the abuse has to be her fault for not being picture perfect. She's in a no-win situation in regards to this marriage; it's been rough from the start. Imogen has suffered two major losses in her life that would cause anyone to be depressed and anxious. The only thing that matters to her is her five-year-old son, Alistair and making sure he has a loving, nurturing home to grow in. When she finally gathers up the nerve to ask for a divorce, Phillip has already moved in with his latest "victim." A much younger woman, Naomi, who has grown up in the system without any family to speak of who would, of course, see this older man a police officer at that as her knight in shining armor. Phillip, of course, is making Imogene's life a living nightmare since she requested the divorce, it's all about appearances with him. He counters the divorce and muddies the water, so it drags on and on. Phillip threatens to sue for sole custody of Alistair as a way to try to get Imogen to be more compliant to his demands. Imogen is trying to protect him from his abusive father, and she knows he doesn't care for the boy, he's using him as a bargaining chip. Imogen wants her son, Alistair to be safe from his father's tirades and get on with her life. When Imogene first meets Naomi, she notices that things aren't as rosy with them as Phillip would like it to seem. When she accidentally runs into Naomi while she's leaving the hospital after her mother has a minor accident Imogene notices that Naomi has a large gash on her forehead. Imogene knows precisely how she got it. Phillip's abuse is escalating. She stays with Naomi at the ER, and they form a type of kinship. They both know that something is going on with him, but they aren't quite sure what the deal is because they have both caught him lying to them. This is where the revenge part comes in; it's quite diabolical when the three exes get together and form an unlikely alliance against him. It's one thing after another; this book was hard to put down, I have to admit. You don't know who to trust or what is about to happen next. They know that going to the police is out of the question because Imogene has tried that and it's a joke because they are protecting their own. Each woman finds themselves questioning the other one's trustworthiness during this plot to keep him from killing them all. He's caught up in a web of his own making, Imogene finds out a few new facts that are causing Phillip's more intense rages. Things are falling into place, but these three women have only each other for protection. Imogene's only concern is that Alistair is safe and away from this awful plan which could very easily blow up in their faces. "The Exes' Revenge" is an edge of your seat thriller as I stated earlier, Ms. Jakeman did a fantastic job keeping you guessing what is coming next. It's to the extreme, but she did an excellent job for her debut. The ending will take you by surprise as well. I want to thank the publisher and Read-it-First for the opportunity to read and give my honest opinion of this e-galley.

I was into this book from the very beginning. I know this man that these three women had feelings for and had been wronged by. Or some version of him. What intrigued me about this book was that the man they had in common could be so charismatic and believable, while being such a liar. The three women have nearly nothing in common other than him when they first get together due to circumstance. I won't give away the circumstance, but let's say it does draw them together. But can they really trust each other? This theory will be tested during their time together. Is he really as bad as one of them thinks, or worse? These are all questions that come up.This book has some dark material. This man is not a nice guy. It is a good read. You are drawn in, you like the females. You feel for them. Unexpected things happen. Good reading. This book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.

The Exe's Revenge by Jo Jakeman is an interesting debut thriller. "Originally titled Sticks and Stones". Ruby, Imogen, and NaomiA wickedly dark debut thriller about three women....Ruby, Imogen, and Naomi, all three have been involved with the same man, Phillip Rochester, who was abusive and controlling. The one thing all three have in common, they revenge against him. A dark and emotional thriller that deals with sensitive issues, domestic violence, abuse, secrets, some dark humor, wit, sadness, and the coming together of three women who become free from their abusive, policeman husband/boyfriend and find a solidarity. Think of the "9 to 5: movie years ago. Traumatic and compelling. "The Exe's Revenge" may not compel to all readers, I found it to be an interesting story, usual and a bit unpredictable. #NetGalley, #TheExesRevenge, #JoJakeman, "I voluntarily received a complimentary copy, however, these are my honest opinions. This is a fast paced story of a not so nice man and the women in his life (ex wife, estranged wife, and now girlfriend) who want to take revenge for how they were treated. Phillip is abusive and threatens his soon to be ex wife with losing custody if she doesn’t do what he wants. When Phillip accidently falls, Imogen takes advantage and locks him up. Team in with the other women they decide how to handle the situation. A great read even with the darkness of domestic abuse. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy.

A special thank you to the author, Jo Jakeman, for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.Three women are connected by their romantic involvement with the same man. At first they have only this in common, but come to realize that they actually have another thing in common...they all want revenge against him.Phillip Rochester is controlling, abusive, and narcissistic. Imogen, Phillip's second ex-wife, is dealing with the messy fallout from their divorce. He is becoming incredibly difficult, going so far as to demand that she move out of their house by the end of the month or he will sue for sole custody of their son. In an act of desperation and madness, Imogen does something so unthinkable and completely out of character, yet it gives her all the power in the relationship for the first time. What she could never anticipate is that both Phillip's other ex-wife and his new girlfriend would get caught up in her plan. These vastly different women become the most unlikely allies to take revenge on the same man that wronged them all.In this psychological thriller, Jakeman opens with Phillip's funeral. Her twisty plot plays out between the past and present to reveal how Phillip died. This is an efficacious way to quell the reader's desire for revenge on such an abusive individual.Imogen's character descent is fascinating. At first, she's a typical unreliable narrator—her perception is her reality so the reader naturally sides with her where the exes are concerned. But the more the story plays out, and the further across the line she goes, the more we learn about the other women. This dark debut was originally titled Sticks and Stones, though I much prefer the current title, The Exes' Revenge. Jakeman's novel is not only hypnotic, but incredibly satisfying from start to finish. The pace is spot on, as is the revenge and there is also some dark humour sprinkled throughout which is incredibly clever. I literally could not stop reading and stayed up way too late. Thank you, Jo Jakeman, for taking me on this ride!

Calling a book a page turner may be cliche, but The Exe's Revenge is exactly that. With a unique structure which starts at the end and then jumps back in time, this book compels you forward with increasing intensity as everything spirals out of control. When Imogene's soon to be ex-husband starts making outrageous demands before he'll grant a divorce, Imogene is forced to confront truths she's spent her adult life attempting to bury. After her exe unexpectedly breaks into her house to demand she move out with their son and threaten her, Imogene snaps. Then his girlfriend comes looking for him. Then his first ex-wife. Together these three women, who only have one awful man in common, must band together or risk none of them making it out alive.

Thanks to Berkley Books for allowing me to review an ARC of The Exes' Revenge. The editing was proficient-I didn't notice typos or punctuation errors. This book was fine. Some of the "twists" left me wondering if they were actually supposed to be twists, or if the fact that the outcome was fairly predictable was intentional. This isn't to say this was a bad book. It just was. It was fine. A little underwhelming, didn't bring anything new to the table for the genre. I didn't find myself dying to find out what happened next. I do think the strong point lies in the relationship building between the three exes. I appreciate the development that occurs and how they end things together. It is also refreshing that this book left a little more up to karma then good people making horrific decisions. I'm being intentionally vague for obvious reasons. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to read another Jo Jakeman, but I also wouldn't be upset if one landed in my lap. This was an average read in my opinion.

“Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor Hell no fury like a women scorned.”
    Willam Congreve

Phillip has been abusing women and power almost his whole life. Ruby, his first wife, makes excuses, till his true colors come out. Imogene has been cast aside for his newest fling. She’s still mourning the loss of her first child and is a doting mother to their son. Naomi is Phillip’s current fling and she’s finding out what a mistake it is. Until one day events put these 3 women together and they cannot left Phillip get away with one more punch.

This book delves in Domestic Abuse. It’s upsetting to read about. As frustrating as it is to understand why women stay, the author does a great job explaining how men like this can take control over women’s lives, and prey on certain types.

This books starts and ends at a funeral, and then gives you the backstory. You will simultaneously cheer and jeer these women. You will find out how an abuser can work his game, until he can’t.

Well written, dark situations, vivid details. Look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

I received an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Three women. Three women with almost nothing in common except the man they love or once loved. Three women that should dislike each other and they do. So what would make these three women form a bond?Revenge. We all think about it; when someone has wronged us. We fantasize about it and some even act upon it. Imogen was and technically is still married to Phillip. Ruby is the past wife, Naomi is the future wife. And they have more in common than you might think. The story starts with an ending and page by page as we go back, there is more revealed to see how these three women, while not yet fully trusting each other, become united against a man that seems untouchable. A man so cruel, that he leaves victim after victim in his path of destruction. This is one of those books that makes you set aside some of your beliefs of right and wrong and embrace “the end justifies the means”.This book is hard to put down and many times I felt myself tensing up and my ears listening for every creak in my own house. It made me angry, frustrated and sad, with a few giggles in there too. Chocked full of suspense and some humour, I really enjoyed this book. And that demise was so delicious. This book is a 4 1/2 stars for me. Thank you to net galley and the publishers for allowing me the privilege to read and review this book by sending it free in exchange for an honest review.
