Perfect stories read by the perfect actress for them. It is the world of wealthy white upper middle class where people of course have maids who cook for them, and where others work for very little but dream of being rich. It is 1924, and 1933, and 1941, and The New Yorker is a new and distinctive voice. Dorothy Parker very much helped define that voice and Elaine Stritch brings it back to life.

This is not classic Parker wit. It’s more social commentary with irony. I enjoyed the insight into the period and the inner logic expressed by the protagonists. Only comment is that there is no pause in the audio between stories so it took me a few moments to figure out that we were into a new chapter. I liked the readers speaking voice. I thought it was appropriate to the text.
