About this audiobook

Rebekah Lantz feels imprisoned by circumstances she didn't create. Tobias Byler is haunted by regret. Can two young runaways from half a world away teach them the healing power of true family?

Rebekah isn't like her sister, but the watchful gaze of her family and small, close-knit Amish community makes her feel as if she's been judged and found lacking. The men avoid her and the women whisper behind her back. She simply longs for the same chance to be a wife and mother that her friends have.

Tobias Byler only wants to escape feelings for a woman he knows he should never have allowed to get close to him. Moving with his family to isolated Bee County, Texas, seemed the best way to leave his mistakes behind. But even a move across the country can't erase the past that accompanies his every thought.

A surprise encounter with two half-starved runaway children forces both Rebekah and Tobias to turn to each other to help a sister and brother who have traveled thousands of miles in search of lives of unfettered peace and joy.

In doing so, Rebekah and Tobias discover the key to forgetting the past is the one that will open the door to love and the future they both seek.

The third installment in The Amish of Bee County is a story that is unforgettable. It gives us a glimpse into the world of immigration, sacrifice, hope and freedom. I loved how the author wrote about a subject that is at the forefront today. We sometimes forget about the innocent children that are trapped between lands looking for freedom. Rebekah is a hard working school teacher who discovers two young children hiding. They are scared, lost and look hungry and tired. The language barrier is a challenge but Rebekah is able to communicate with them. Her heart goes out to them and decides that she will help them. I loved how the author gave Rebekah the ability to see these children as helpless and needing someone they could trust. Will Rebekah be able to help them find their father ? Can the community come together and accept them with open arms? Tobias and his family have come to town to start their saddle business in hopes it will be successful. They make saddles and also train horses. Tobias is hard working and has a heart of gold. He is comfortable around children and helps Rebekah try to find help for the children she found hiding. As they begin to see each other more will an attraction between them develop? Is there something holding Tobias back from having feelings for Rebekah? Can Rebekah find time to open her heart to Tobias? I loved the way the author described how a saddle was made. The details were written so vividly that I could picture the saddle as it was being formed and the smell of saddle soap that lingered in the air. I love how the author used the illustration to relate to how God molds . He takes those rough edges away and replaces them with a smooth touch that helps us become closer to Him. What a beautiful way to give us a picture that demonstrates what God's handiwork can do. I loved how the author wove into the story about sacrifice. Some of the characters made sacrifices to help their family in need. It reminds me of the ultimate sacrifice that was done for each of us. Jesus died for us so that we would be free. Is is hard for you to make a sacrifice for someone so they can find happiness ? The story is written with a great message about hope, heartache, loss, sacrifice and love. Are you ready to be His hands and feet ? This is one story you will remember long after the last page has been read. "With each new trial, God teaches us something new. We learn to see the blessings in what we have . We learn to be content in what we have. We learn to step out in faith , knowing He has our best interest at heart."I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild for an honest review.

Sunday, July 24, 2016The Saddle Maker's Son by Kelly Irvin, © 2016The Amish of Bee County series, Book 3Don't miss this series! I absolutely loved this story and was so involved in it that I couldn't put it down nearing the final chapters. The discussion questions included in the back are great to think on. The characters interact so well with conversation and care for each other. Learning to trust is a big issue that is surmounted, with the past benefiting the present. Kelly Irvin has written a today story so valuable to receive.A new family arrives at Beeville; widower Levi Byler and his six sons and three daughters. Levi and his two older sons are skilled in saddle making and training horses. I enjoyed learning about saddle making; the different layers and measuring. The story opens as the Bylers arrive at school with the younger children. There are two other children who have also arrived. Alone.A lesson learned in not being a stumbling block, able to help another. Hearts are healed as they wait upon the Lord for direction. I think this each time I finish reading a story in this series, but I really, really liked this one! An encouragement, not judging, but upholding another, benefiting from righting previous curves detoured near the path. This story could be enjoyed by any age group. The story is so well-written ~ I liked getting to know the characters more and felt a part of their day as they interacted. There is action and changes that require growth and understanding. Respect and honor become vital. A life well-spent.***Thank you to author Kelly Irvin and to Zondervan/HarperCollins for sending me a copy of The Saddle Maker's Son to review. This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.***Watch for a new series beginning in early 2017 ~ An Every Amish Season Novel: Upon a Spring Breeze by Kelly Irvin

The Saddle Maker’s Son by Kelly Irvin is the third book in The Amish of Bee County series. Susan King is the local schoolteacher and Rebekah Lantz is her assistant (and niece by marriage). Her mother and stepfather will not let her have a job in town since her sister, Leila left the Amish to marry Jesse Glick. Rebekah is outside the schoolhouse reading a letter Leila left for her (in a secret place they used when they were younger) when she discovers two children hiding out in the shed. The children are Lupe (short for Guadalupe) and Diego. They have traveled from El Salvador to Texas on their own (sent by their grandmother). Lupe and Diego are heading for San Antonio to find their father (can you imagine two young children coming all that way). They are hiding from the bad men who helped them get across the border. They want to catch Lupe and have her work for them (you know it is nefarious and immoral). Rebekah is trying to get them inside the schoolhouse when a wagon pulls up scaring them. Levi Byler has just moved to Bee County, Texas from Ohio and is enrolling his youngest children in school. Levi is a widower with nine children (can you imagine). His son, Tobias is with him and he helps Rebekah to locate Lupe and Diego. When Levi and Susan are introduced there are some definite sparks flying between the two of them. It is up to the leaders (the men) in the community on what happens with Lupe and Diego. Lupe and Diego need help (especially since they are in the country illegally) and they are just what is needed to help Rebekah and Tobias move forward with their lives (to let go of the past). They will need to work with Jesse Glick to help the children find their father and to keep them in the States. Read The Saddle Maker's Son to see how Rebekah, Tobias, and others work to help these two children. The Saddle Maker’s Son is a charming story. It is easy to read and enjoy. It is not a complex book and the ending is predictable, but I enjoyed this nice change of pace. The Saddle Maker's Son is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone book. I do, however, recommend that you read the other books first. I think it would be beneficial in order to understand the Amish community (the people) and the issues they are dealing with in Bee County. I give The Saddle Maker's Son 4 out of 5 stars (I liked it). It was interesting to read about how the system is handling illegal immigrants especially children. The great thing with books in a series is it gives the reader an opportunity to catch up with people you have come to know and love as well as be introduced to new characters. I will definitely be reading books by Kelly Irvin in the future. I received a complimentary copy of The Saddle Maker’s Son from NetGalley (and the publisher) in exchange for an honest evaluation of the novel.
