About this audiobook

First-century Corinth is a city teeming with commerce and charm.

It’s also filled with danger and corruption—the perfect setting for Ariadne’s greatest adventure.

After years spent living with her mother and oppressive grandfather in Athens, Ariadne runs away to her father’s home in Corinth, only to discover the perilous secret that destroyed his marriage: though a Greek of high birth, Galenos is the infamous thief who has been robbing the city’s corrupt of their ill-gotten gains.

Desperate to keep him safe, Ariadne risks her good name, her freedom, and the love of the man she adores to become her father’s apprentice. As her unusual athletic ability leads her into dangerous exploits, Ariadne discovers that she secretly revels in playing with fire. But when the wrong person discovers their secret, Ariadne and her father find their future—and very lives—hanging in the balance.

When they befriend a Jewish rabbi named Paul, they realize that his radical message challenges everything they’ve fought to build, yet offers something neither dared hope for.

Be transported back in time by this gripping tale of adventure, bravery, and redemption, and discover why Debbie Macomber says, “No one brings the Bible to life like Tessa Afshar.”

The narration is fantastic and it is well written. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 though because the story was slow a lot of the time. The whole of it though helped in character development as it went through Ariana's life, coming together by the end.

I’ve read several of Tessa Afshar’s books and enjoyed them all. Thief of Corinth is a bit different because it includes Bible characters but isn’t based on actual Biblical events. Ariadne is an interesting character, though I had a little more difficulty relating to her than to some of Ms. Afshar’s other heroines. I sympathized with her, but feel I would’ve made different choices than she did. I’ve always enjoyed the author’s writing style. She moves a story forward with purpose and elegance, and shares many spiritual messages without being tedious. Some of her word choices and phrases make me pause and read again in admiration. This novel is a coming-of-age story. The journey to spiritual maturity was my favorite part. The pacing was a bit slow in the beginning, and although it never became a fast-paced page-turner (for me) it flowed steadily and produced a satisfying ending.Note: The audio narration is wonderfully engaging and makes the story come alive.I received a complimentary copy of this book from TyndaleBlogNetwork and NetGalley.

She finds herself at a crossroad and must make a choice, but is she willing to pay the price?Tessa Afshar is one of my “must read” authors. I eagerly await each new release, wondering which person from the Bible she will choose to tell her fictional tale about. Tessa writes with such fluidity that the pages fly by quickly as readers follow each character’s story to a climactic ending. The historical details included in the story are so interesting! I liked that this story that showed the results of divorce from a child’s viewpoint. The appearance of Paul in the story was seamlessly woven in and his words heard by Ariadne and her father offer a challenge to think about their current life, as well as hope for the future. This is another wonderful book by a very talented author! I can’t wait for her next novel from an author whom has truly received a God-given gift to reach her audience for Him.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. I had committed my first intentional crime. When the excitement of it evaporated, I had a hard landing. My life would never be the same again. I could not recover my innocence. After she finds out her father robs corrupt men of their dishonorable gains, Ariadne eventually becomes his partner. All for good and necessary reasons, Ariadne tells herself. But their secret deeds put father and daughter, and their souls, in more than one level of danger in Thief of Corinth by author Tessa Afshar.Confession: though I've read most of this author's novels, and Harvest of Rubies is one of my all-time favorites, I knew some initial hesitation about this book, since I've also written one with a thieving female protagonist. Though that doesn't determine the value of either novel, I'll admit I was relieved to find out how much the storylines differ.(Authors have their little worries, you know.)But, anyway! I expected another good Biblical Fiction read here, and I was also prepared to spend a few days reading it. I did not expect that I'd have it finished in less than twenty-four hours. I'm not the fastest reader around, but when a story pulls me in this well, I just have to go with it. (And give up some sleep.) I found the plot development/pacing to be a bit awkward in places, but it wasn't too distracting. And, my goodness, the book cover. The soft and rich tones and texture, mixed with the peril of a young woman on the run—it's excellent.Whether you're already a fellow fan of Afshar or just looking for a great historical/biblical ChristFic read, you'd do well to check this one out._________Tyndale House provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.

Beautiful. Moving. Fast paced. All the feels. “The Thief of Corinth” by Tessa Afshar is all these things and more! I took two courses specifically on 1 and 2 Corinthians in college, so my heart has a special place for these books of the Bible. Paul is also one of my favorite Bible characters, so I loved reading about him in this book as well! Ms. Afshar truly makes first-century Corinth come alive! She adds so much detail of the setting and time period that I could vividly picture this bustling city. Ms. Afshar uses a more edgy writing style and tries to be true to the time period by showing the good and bad. Corinth was a very corrupt place. I think Ms. Afshar does a good job of being realistic but not too graphic. I love that the story is told from a younger girl’s point of view (Ariadne) and reads more like a Young Adult novel, in my opinion. But it can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Ariadne faced a lot of rejection in her life and is part of a corrupt, fractured family, torn apart by divorce. Even though the book takes place in Biblical times, teens and adults will find the themes very relevant today. Some of these themes are family dynamics, searching for a parent’s approval, wanting to be popular, dysfunctional families and reconciliation. I highly recommend this book!Content: This definitely falls in the edgy Christian fiction category. I would give it a PG-13 rating. See my above paragraph on my thoughts regarding the content. Some examples of the content are: a mention of men being drunk; men drink wine; a scene showing a slave girl has been raped; a mention of a child having been beaten; talk of prostitution at the temple of Aphrodite; talks about men competing in sports in the nude; a man committed suicide; mentions that people swear, but the word isn’t actually written.Rating: I give this book a solid 5 stars!Genre: Christian fiction; Biblical fiction; HistoricalI want to thank Tessa Afshar and Tyndale House Publishers for the complimentary copy of this book for review. At sixteen, Ariadne recognizes the danger that lurks in her future should she continue living in Athens. She and her brother, Theo, flee to their father in Corinth and it is there that she discovers her father steals from the city's corrupt, elite citizens. Blessed with a love of running and athletics, Ariadne determines to partner with him and revels in the heists. But her secrets undermine her relationships with her brother, Theo, and her love interest, Justus. When Paul, a Jewish rabbi, enters their lives, everything begins to change. Unfortunately, a powerful man discovers their secret and Ariadne finds her future in jeopardy. Read more in Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar. In my opinion, Thief of Corinth is in the top three books that Tessa Afshar has written. Between Ariadne's determination, tense relationships, and dangerous situations, I found myself constantly eager to read more of the story. I liked that the author did not fully explain Ariadne's plans for her heists ahead of time. It was nerve-wracking (in a good way) to read some of Ariadne's adventures and one of them was laugh out loud hilarious. As expected, Ariadne grows and changes throughout the story. Ariadne's character is not only vibrantly written, but her character development is complex and beautiful – one of the story's greatest strengths. I also appreciated the themes of forgiveness, honesty, and empowerment. In Thief of Corinth, Tessa Afshar returns to the first century, the same time period of her book, Bread of Angels. There is a brief tie-in between the two novels, but Thief of Corinth is a stand-alone novel.I recommend Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar to anyone who enjoys Biblical fiction, man or woman. My husband also read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. While Ariadne is sixteen at the beginning of the book, I would categorize this as Christian Fiction, not Christian Young Adult (YA).Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher. I loved this very different book of fiction. This is a very interesting time period. I have never read a book based in Corinth and enjoyed learning a bit about it. I loved the character of Ariadne and how strong she is. It had to be hard to choose to do something different than most other women. I enjoyed her journey of discovery along with all of her friends. I did not want to stop reading this story. I hope to read many more of Tessa Afshar’s books. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

There is a reason that Tessa Afshar is one of my favorite Christian authors. She pens Biblical fiction with consummate skill and keen insight, and “Thief of Corinth” is no exception. The ancient world of first-century Corinth springs to vivid life and offers readers a tour of the culture and people residing there. Despite this antiquated setting, Afshar draws many parallels between Corinth and the modern world. The issue of women’s rights—or acute lack thereof—features prominently, as does the fallout of a broken family and the repercussions of strained and severed relationships, friendships and peer pressure, and financial struggles. With unerring acumen, “Thief of Corinth” weaves social and personal concerns and how the two intersect in the lives of the characters. Ariadne, the young heroine, challenges the status quo with her fiery personality and sense of self-preservation. Her cunning and naiveté create a duality that makes her all the more relatable and sympathetic. As readers follow her journey and understand the great impact of the past and how she came to make her choices, they realize the prospect and the cost of restoration. Perhaps the circumstances of her life have, in fact, tuned her ear to the whisper of redemption. Likewise, this novel targets a larger audience besides Christians. Readers outside the faith will doubtless enjoy Ariadne’s story and be touched by its telling and its outcome, gleaning the treasure of “Thief of Corinth” and serving as a testament to the power of love regardless of the time and place.I received a complimentary copy of “Thief of Corinth” from the publisher.
