About this audiobook

Maddox

The reason I rarely go home is three simple words: I'm a liar.

When the pressure to marry my childhood sweetheart became too much, I told her I was gay and then fled to New York like my ass was on fire.

Now, five years later and after a drunken encounter, I find myself invited to her wedding. And I have to bring my boyfriend-the boyfriend who doesn't exist because I'm straight.

At least, I think I am. Meeting the guy I'm bribing to be my boyfriend for the weekend makes me question everything about myself.

Damon

When my sister asks me to pretend to be some straight guy's boyfriend, my automatic response is to say no. It's because of guys like him people don't believe me when I tell them I'm gay.

But Maddox has something I need.

After an injury that cost me my baseball career, I'm trying to leave my playing days behind and focus on being the best sports agent I can be. Forty-eight hours with my sister's best friend in exchange for a meeting with a possible client. I can do this.

I just wish he wasn't so hot. Or that he didn't kiss like he means it.

Wait . . . why is the straight guy kissing me?

Contains mature themes.

I absolutely loved this book! Well written, well narrated, moving story!

It was a good story. I enjoyed it but I can't say I was wowed by it. I know lying is wrong but I am firmly on Maddox's side on the Chastity matter. She was really pushy and controlling hey. Eric really did a number on Damon I must say. He really was hiding in the closet and used homophobia as an excuse. I don't usually like the Fake Relationship trope but this wasn't bad at all. The two MCs learned to become an actual team and their lives actually changed for the better after they got together in spite of the challenges. Stacy's antics were weird though. It can't still.be a practical joke if it spoils someone's graduation ceremony and lands him in the ER with a concussion it becomes a horrible inconsiderate prank.

The book is good but the audio ends halfway through chapter 24 and jumps to the end of chapter 27!

    4.5 stars.

I'll admit it: I'm a huge sucker for a fake boyfriend story. And this one ticks all the boxes. You have sexy MCs, a good solid story line, humour to have you giggling yet also enough issues and a little bit of angst which keeps it all interesting. Throw in the fantastic side characters and you have a story which I loved.

I'm now thoroughly looking forward to the next story!

The VA’s were phenomenal in this book! My Goodreads said I read this book before but I couldn’t remember. I decided to try the audiobook version and I was not disappointed. Definitely continuing this series here ✨

Great kick off to series, Damien & Maddox are hilarious, all that snarky wit is so much fun. But what I love the most is neither one has a mean bone. Their romance is unexpected but always open, honest, and respectful. Can’t wait for what’s up next.

Four stars on my first reads, four stars on my second, two stars on my third read, what the fuck?

Fake Out remains my favorite in this series, even though it isn't without its faults. This is my favorite trope so I'm bound to like it, and the first 80% of the book were great for me. The conflict leading to the happy ending is so unnecessary and forced that it diminished my enjoyment, but other than that it was fine.

On my second read, I actually listened to this on audio, and that really tends to underline the potholes in the writing. However, I read this 100% for escapism and to disappear into cute romance, so I'm inclined to forgive some corny writing and the like.

This was fun and cute. I liked the progression of the relationship. I was listening to the audiobook and there were definitely some parts I couldn’t believe there was so much time in it but generally story moved along well. Some of the parts with the family drama I cared less but it was still generally OK. I thought the characters were more realistic than characters from romance novels but they definitely still have their issues. Definitely quick to listen to and I did enjoy picking it up. I would recommend this to someone looking for a quick fun romance.

First time I read this it was the ebook, and now I listened to the audio.
The audio is awesome! And this story was even more fun this time around than when I first read it.

This book was far from perfect but a fun read/escape. The middle sagged under the weight of identity and pretty graceless conversations around it (some I'd say are even frustrating in tone)

    But it was cute overall.

Fake Boyfriend is one of my favorite fanfic tropes, so it was fun to see in a novel. The story follows Maddox whose high school girlfriend refused to accept his repeated attempts at breaking up, so he finally lied and told her he was gay. She then outed him to his entire town, which, I don't care how upset you are, that's just wrong, so I actually felt no sympathy for her because of the lie. Maddox moved to New York to attend college and then stayed, rarely visiting his small town home in Pennsylvania. Years later he ran into the ex-sweetheart who was having a bachelorette party. She boo-hoos about how it should have been them getting married and how much she misses him. She then invited him to the wedding with his boyfriend...his non-existent boyfriend. And much like she did in high school, she blabbed and told everyone he was coming home. Everyone including Maddox's parents who make certain he can't politely back out of the wedding because they guilt him into bringing his boyfriend (that he didn't tell them about) home to meet them. Now he's tasked with finding a fake boyfriend to take home for a weekend.Enter his best friend, Stacy, who convinces her gay brother to do the job. Maddox promises to get Damon, an endeavoring sports agent, a meeting with a high profile hockey player in return for the favor. Of course Damon cannot turn the chance to gain his first (solo) client and agrees. And shenanigans ensue. I don't want to spoil the good bits. The characters were likable and flawed like normal humans. They were not perfect and there were bad choices made and misunderstandings, but not to the point of angst where you wanted to strangle everyone. It was a fun story where the plot didn't resolve itself immediately, but it didn't drag out overly long either. There was comedy, drama, angst, sweetness, and sexytimes. All of which were well written. The narrators did a good job of capturing the voices and emotions of the characters. This was the first in a series and I would be interested in checking out more.
