Guilty pleasure reading at its best. Lauren Weisberger keeps on delivering fun and an ironic approach to life in general and life in the 'burbs' in particular!!

Thursday is crazy about her husband Seth. So crazy, in fact, that it doesn't matter that he has two other wives and that she's never met them. But one day Thursday finds something that unravels her whole world.

This book grabbed me right from page one. The writing is descriptive, the characters are three-dimensional. I felt like I was there, watching everything unfold. There are plenty of twists and turns. I had lots of different feelings about the characters and the situations. A very interesting page-turner. Loved it!

"Imagine that your husband has two other wives. You've never met the other wives. None of you know each other and because of this unconventional arrangement, you can see your husband only one day a week. But you love him so much you don't care. Or at least that's what you've told yourself. But one day, while you're doing laundry, you find a scrap of paper in his pocket - an appointment reminder for a woman named Hannah, and you just know it's another of the wives. You thought you were fine with your arrangement, but you can't help yourself: you track her down, and, under false pretenses, you strike up a friendship. Hannah has no idea who you really are. Then Hannah starts showing up to your coffee dates with telltale bruises, and you realize she's being abused by her husband. Who, of course, is also your husband. But you've never known him to be violent, ever. Who exactly is your husband, and how far would you be willing to go to find out? And who is his mysterious third wife?"I was thoroughly engrossed in the storyline, the characters and the thrilling evolution of the plot. I cannot say I was satisfied with the ending. I vacillate between being confused as to the author's true intention and just being disappointed at the turn of events. The book does highlight traumatic events and the long-lasting effects that can appear to be glossed over but, in reality, are festering and can become an eventual unstoppable explosion.

This is a story with twists and turns that I did not expect. Thursday is married to Seth, a man she only sees once a week because they are in a polygamous relationship and he spends the other days with his other wives. One day Thursday's curiosity gets the best of her and she goes looking for information about Seth's other wives. Do you know the old adage curiosity killed the cat? Some times it doesn't kill you but it does make you doubt your sanity.

My curiosity got the best of me and I finished this one, although I skimmed through the end. I wanted to know what happened, but was let down as the end was not twisted nor shocking.

Was Thursday making it up or was she being played for a crazy woman? You'll have to read to find out!

If you enjoy liars, cheaters, and mentally ill people pushed further into their delusions, you’ll love this book. None of the characters were heroic or likable. They pretty much deserved what they got. A story that leaves the reader depressed and feeling bad about life and people. Definitely not recommended.

The story line of this thriller is filled with a lot of twists and turns, so much so that I couldn't figure out who was ultimately going to be the bad guy. It did get a little confusing for a while, but - holy cow! - the ending was fantastic! I read this author's more recent book "The Wrong Family" before this one and was not impressed. This book was much, much better!

OMG this book! It was a complete mind fuckery in the best possible way. Here's the best way I can describe this book...

It's one of those books where you are just going along reading the story and then halfway through something happens and you are like WTF?!?! And then you are like seriously WTF?!?! for the rest of the book and then the end is like Daaaaamn!

Yep, that is how I would describe it!

Thursday is the second wife in a polygamous relationship. Her husband, Seth sees her only on Thursday, since the other two wives live in another city. Thursday tries to be the complainant wife, so he loves her more. Curious after a time, Thursday seeks out the other two wives on social media. The more she digs into their lives, the more convinced she is Seth is being untruthful. This is a fast-paced thriller with a surprise at every turn.

I was attracted to this because of the premise!

The book started of really strong and for almost half of the book I was so invested in it that I just didn’t want to put it down.

But then the plot went crazy. I had no idea what happened and the dramatic twist in the plot was unexpected.

Finally, the ending was totally messed up, that it left me hanging.

Thursday is desperately in need of having her head examined. She let this creep have not one but TWO…count them…other wives????? She did it because she “SO CRAZY ABOUT HIM!” I think she was just crazy. You have to keep reading because you just have to see what other stupid, irrational act she will enact next. Believe me…she doesn’t disappoint, There must be a padded cell somewhere for her and “God’s gift to women”. Oh…She is “Thursday”, and the other two wives are “Monday” and “Tuesday” because those are the days they get the “pleasure” of being with him. I wonder what he does the other days.

I started reading this thinking it was an interesting story about some manipulative asshole with three wives - by the time I got to the middle of the book, I was like "WTF!!!" And that WTF feeling stayed pretty consistent to the end.
I wavered between a 4 and 5 on the rating so I'll go with a 4.5 - Highly recommended if you like more than the average plot twists. I can't wait to read another by this author. Excellent narration too if you're considering the audio.

An interesting character and an interesting premise - a very quick read - and then it seems to spiral out in the end. Thursday is the haunted wife of a man involved in a plural marriage. She has never met her husband's other two wives - but when she gets curious her life spirals out of control.

Glad I had a paper copy of this rather than the audiobook, so I could speed read the boring parts easily. The beginning, setting up the character, then later the functional narrative bits that were necessary but uninteresting. And then roughly half way through the book I realized the narrator is not reliable and guessed where it was going and mostly lost interest, but followed it through to see if I was right. More or less, I was. Too bad, because the original premise was actually a bit more interesting. I'm not a fan of a narrative that manipulates you like a bait and switch, or "and it was all a dream." Good for some people, but not my thing. It's short, and I read it in a day, so that's on the plus side.

Taryn Fisher is an auto buy author for me. I generally love her writting. She does a great job of navigating dark material. This one missed the mark for me a bit. It felt like the shell of a Fisher novel that had been hollowed out to make it more palatable for the masses. Possibly the traditional publishing, or perhaps just trying one too many twists to sate the voracious appetite of all the new readers on a thriller kick. I'm not quite sure, I just know this read incomplete and rushed. I'm still a Fisher fan though, and I plan to keep reading.

Thursday's husband has two other wives. None of the wives have met, which is how Seth likes it. When Thursday find's a receipt in her husband's pocket, she tracks down the third wife, Hannah, and befriends her. Thursday then tracks down the first wife, Regina, who she watches from social media sites. However, something isn't right. Hannah has bruises all over her body, and Regina's websites say that she is divorced. There was really only two possibilities that this story could have gone. There were too many clues which gave the plot away. It didn't unravel, rather the information was just dumped all at once. The characters themselves were a bit bland and boring. Overall, a bust.

I almost did not finish this book. First, the plot in the beginning was slow to start and the characters were not that likable. Also, what kind of a name is Thursday? yes, we realize it's a play on the storyline and part of what is going on with her but this is just ridiculous. Anyway! onwards!Should you decide to carry on with the plot, it gets significantly better. When things hit the fan, it really hits the fan. The mind games happening throughout the last half of the story is so well done that you're even left second guessing yourself. The characters are not likable at all. All throughout the story you still can't like them. There's sympathy for Thursday for what she's gone through, but after everything is revealed you find you still have that sympathy but she can also have a pretty toxic personality as well. It makes you cringe at her behavior and at the end of the day you really feel sorry for her. Who I did not like at all was Regina. Wow. She's so vindictive and hateful she had it coming. The hate is strong with this one. She definitely had me fooled! So if you're able to put up with the plot, I say carry on and watch the mind games begin. It's well written and keeps you guessing until the last third of the book. It's worth the wait.

That was certainly a crazy ride! I counted on some type of unexpected twist at the end, but in certainly didn’t expect what I got! This is one of those great stories where you should take nothing at face value.
In order to be with the man you love, you have to accept a past and a future wife...all at the same time you’re with him. Polygamy? Yes, technically. But of course, there are extenuating circumstances. Written from the POV of wife #2, I found myself questioning my own sanity at the end.

The message is clear here. Mental health is no joke. I enjoyed this book. I was expecting the book to go in a different direction halfway through and that she really was not imagining everything. But now I think about it, there has already been a lot of books like that. Nice one, I will have to check out her other novels.

One man, three wives, none of whom originally know each other. As the book progresses, the main character is obsessed with learning about the other women. She asks her husband leading questions. She is known as Thursday, the day which the husband sets aside for her.She dotes on him. She makes wonderful meals for him. The relationship begins to falter when she looses a baby she is carrying. She is able to track down the other women, and have conversations with them.As the complicated relationships continue to lead Ms. Thursday to want to learn more, her husband learns of her duplicity, and becomes physically abusive. She learns that he also is physically harming the others as well.As the plot thickens, her relationship with her husband continues to spiral downward, and the husband has her committed to an institution. Is she really "crazy?"Because the ending seems to be convoluted, I didn't particularly like this book.

This psychological thriller is about a woman who is in a polygamist marriage and who ultimately decides to track down her husband's other two wives. I had little sympathy for the character because I questioned why she would stay if she wasn't happy. But the book kept me turning pages as the plot twisted and turned eventually coming to an ending that was not entirely surprising.

The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is a fiendishly clever domestic mystery.

Thursday is one of Seth's three wives who only sees her husband once a week. She is mostly content with their arrangement when she happens across the identity of one of his other wives. Thursday cannot let the discovery go and she begins extensive research into Hannah. Unable to stop herself, she begins meeting with her and becomes convinced  Hannah is in danger. Thursday then starts searching for information about Seth's other wife, Regina, but before she meets her, a confrontation with Seth goes shockingly wrong. Confused, upset and hurt, Thursday won't stop until she unearths the truth about her husband and his other wives.

Thursday is a nurse who arranges her entire life around her once a week tryst with Seth.  She is not overly close with her family and her best friend, Anna, has recently moved out of state. Thursday has no other friends and her dissatisfaction with her arrangement with Seth continues to grow.  After learning Hannah's name, Thursday becomes obsessed with finding out as much information about her and Regina as she can. But what exactly is Thursday going to do with once she learns as much as she can about Seth's other wives?

Seth is charming but he does not reveal much about himself. Thursday has never understood why he chose her and after meeting Hannah and Regina, she has even more doubts about their relationship.  She is shaken by her observations after seeing Hannah and she is genuinely concerned for her safety. But events soon spiral out of control when Thursday reveals what she has learned to Seth.

The Wives is an absolutely mesmerizing mystery that is impossible to put down. Thursday is an increasingly unreliable narrator whose fixation on Seth's other wives leads to a shocking downward spiral.  With stunning twists and unanticipated turns, Tarryn Fisher brings this riveting mystery to a breathtaking finale. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this fantastic psychological mystery to readers of the genre

The suspense in this book was good until it became tedious toward the last half. Polygamy in a context other than women wearing long dresses with multiple children in a fundamentalist environment is an interesting premise, but there were too many implausible situations to make it believable. I stopped caring about the characters before I finished reading the book.

BOTTOM-LINE:Unreliable narrator, inconsistent story, ridiculous ending.PLOT OR PREMISE:A wife of a polygamist starts to wonder about his other two wives and seeks them out, only to find a potentially dark secret..WHAT I LIKED:The original premise was unusual and intriguing, and the writer's use of an unreliable narrator is creative..WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:The original premise is interesting enough for you to want to find out about a three-wife relationship, where all three wives are kept separate. For most people, the immediate reaction would be, "Why would any woman agree to this ridiculously unbalanced relationship?", and for the story to work, you have to see it "working". Except it never does. For example, you don't see why the protagonist would agree, nor given the fact she is neurotic and alone for four days of the week, she never tries to find out info about the other two. Really? Add in some obvious and not so obvious gaslighting themes that go nowhere, a ridiculous fantasy ending, and it's hard to finish. More importantly, she's a nurse who learns medical info from a lawyer; she is comforting a potential abuse victim and when she starts looking for the door, the narrator puts her hand on her arm to comfort her / encourage her to stay; and she describes herself in one scene as plain Jane and then later as reasonably attractive. I felt ripped off with the ending, not rewarded for making it through. Thank heavens I get a "badge" for this in my reading challenge hehehe..DISCLOSURE:I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. I am not personal friends with the author, nor do I follow her on social media.

I read a review that said you’ll have whiplash until the very end. I couldn’t agree more. This is the role model for unreliable narrators. Is Thursday the legal wife in a polygamous marriage? She lives in Seattle and the other two “wives” live in Portland Oregon. A longer review would only give away too much.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Harlequin Graydon House Books, and Tarryn Fisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of The Wives. My thought and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.Once again, I am against type and did not enjoy this story. Well, let me modify that statement a bit. First I was really really looking forward to this one and so excited that I got an advance copy. There was a lot of positive buzz and people really were freaking out over it. The actual read was smooth and easy. The story flowed, or so I thought. **Mild Spoiler**Let me just say that for the most part I don’t enjoy books where the narrator is either unreliable or straight up lying. I think that most authors use it as a cop out to create a “surprise” or “shocking” ending. No, when you deliberately mislead me through the whole story where even the premise is incorrect, then it isn’t shocking. I felt used, betrayed, and rather pissed off. There are only a few, of the really best authors, who can tell a story and slowly parcel out the facts that are, in the end, not what you expected. This takes a true talent and knowledge of the craft. That didn’t happen here. I’m not going to even tell you the premise because it won’t help. Like I said, I’m in the minority. By the time the big reveal happened I felt a little crazy myself! For having spent my time reading this. No, thank you. Too bad because I was hoping for a different experience.
