About this audiobook

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape...

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom — a groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, Southern drawl she should not be noticing...

Elijah Montgomery DuPont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. She grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison — and the cruel hand of fate — might not give him a choice.

The book and storyline were good but the narrators of this audiobook…annoying especially the whining/baby voice the female narrator would do.

The female narrator needs to get a new career where she doesn’t need to speak. Yuk.

Good story. Narrators weren’t my favorite. The female whiny sex voice and the over the top stereotypical male southern accent ruined it a little for me. But I love Tessa Bailey!

Narration: This is by far one of the cringiest narrations I've suffered through. But I liked the story so I pushed on. The female narrator's voice was non-stop whining with a really weird inflexion at the end of almost every sentence. Then the baby voice during the sex scenes was very unsettling. I skipped through most of the sex scenes because of it. In contrast, the male narrator's voice was just flat.

Story: The story was ok. That is if you can overlook the fact that the MMC ended up dating his ex-fiance's sister and cousin very shortly after their relationship ended. I liked the idea of friends-to-lovers-to-more-than-friends. The friendship and the banter was great until feelings started to develop. The romantic relationship felt forced and the ending was so anticlimactic. Then we get an epilogue a few weeks later that didn't provide any closure to the story. .

I loved the story but as others have said, the narration was not the best. I only knocked off one star because of the narration, it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the story.

The readers voice during intimate scenes was unsettling. I like the story but those scenes were grating, not because of the content just the reading.

The story was good. But the female narration was AWFUL. Especially during the steamy scenes where she, for whatever reason, changed her voice to sound like a toddler. It sounded like a five-year-old girl and a gray old man getting down and dirty. It was disturbingly bad. I had to skip the steamy scenes.
If you can get past that, this was another banger from Tessa Bailey.

    4 stars for the story.
3 stars for the male narration.
1 star for the female narration.

3.5, I read the second book first and it didn’t interfere with this book. I liked it and would recommend it. The constant “whining” between the two and where they stood with each other for a bit tedious but I liked it enough to listen pretty much straight through and not want to start another book ??‍♀️.

I enjoyed the story but the narrator's made it almost impossible to finish. Especially the voice of Addison. When trying to capture playful, teasing and seductive she managed to sound like a toddler pretending to be an adult. It was very annoying.

Getaway Girl is one of my favorite romances, and I keep finding myself listening to it again and again!!

I found the characters pretty original: cynical, sarcastic, and closet-romantic city girl meets lawful good, was-probably-a-boyscout southern gentleman with a bubble butt.

Also- one of the hottest books I've read! Lots of dirty talk, but still sweet. I suppose their sexual dynamic is aggressive sub and gentlemanly dom.

I personally liked the voices, though the steamy scenes do have a very "phone sex worker + baby talk" vibe to it (as the book describes it!) so I could see how it's not everyone's cup of tea. Also, Elijah's southern accent isn't perfect, but I'm a southern girl myself so I'm probably picky ?

The story was fine and entertaining even if at the end felt to cliché, but still it was a nice light read. The problem was the narration! Oh boy! Miss Prince narration was not my favorite. Sometimes I found myself cringing....

Very nice story featuring a quirky heroine and a respectable hero. Didn't like the way the female narrator read though - too OTT.
