Another amazing book from Lisa Jewell, possibly my favourite. Her skill at exposing human weakness and vulnerability alongside human kindness and strength at the same time, makes her books leave an everlasting imprint on me.

I found this book long. I did not sympathise or identify with many of the characters. The main person who was on his third wife did not seem a very complex or interesting guy. I found the children better but still quite two dimensional. I didn't like any of the wives which added to the struggle to read this book. I would not recommend this if you are not a parent or had exposure to mulitdimensional families as it's a bit slow and I didn't connect with the story.

I kept listening intently! I can't recall ever listening to a book so hard, that had my mind kepy totally flip-flopping, with various turns of events. My preconceived notions of the likeable, main character, were out the window, as the book progressed. Very insightful, to say the least, with well drawn, memorable characters. It absorbed me to the end!

A man marries his third wife while still trying to be one big, happy family with his two ex-wives and his 5 kids. And then the third wife dies under odd circumstances (very early in the story, not a spoiler). This was an entertaining book, but there was nothing special about it, and it's one I'll quickly forget. I did like the very different personalities of the different kids.

3.5 stars. Truly wonderful narration - I’ll be looking for more by him. The story was brief but engaging - and both similar and a bit different to the authors other works. I can’t quite describe what I didn’t like - it’s well worth the listen, but not one of her best works. I did enjoy the use of Mya’s cat as bookends to the beginning and end.

Not worth it, I thought this was going to be a thriller like her other books but it really just fell flat.

This story was really relatable. I found myself surprised by how it all ended up, but over all I enjoyed it.

Maya "lurches" in front of a night bus while very drunk and is killed. She is Adrian's third wife. He is heart-broken and so are his two ex-wives and his five children by these ex-wives. They have until this point just been one big happy family. Then a woman calling herself Jane answers Adrian's ad for someone to take Maya's cat and seemingly starts stalking Adrian and his children. Then Luke, the oldest child discovers that Maya had been receiving hateful emails in the run-up to her death. Gradually Adrian begins to see his life, his family and his marriage for what they really are.I enjoyed this story, which reminded me of Joanna Trollope's writing, but there were various problems for me. I never really got a handle on Maya, despite some of the writing being from her point of view. She was supposedly in her early thirties, but behaved more like some one 10 years younger. While Luke's problems with Charlotte amused me, most of the other characters were vaguely unlikeable somehow and often sketchily drawn - there were a lot of them too. Adrian's ability to deceive himself was quite staggering - I know it was kind of the whole point of the story, but it was almost heroic in its extent. I liked the very ending and don't for a moment believe that he has turned over a new leaf.

This is the new novel by Lisa Jewell. The basic story is about Adrian and his three wives. Wife 1 was Susie and they had two children and he left her for wife 2 Caroline and they had three children when he left her for wife 3 Maya. At the very beginning of the novel, Maya is killed by a bus - is it an accident or suicide? Adrian spends the entire novel answering this question. He also does a lot of soul searching about whether he is a good father and a good person. The novel is good and the author handles the characters and the story very well. I didn't like the children, which made it a bit difficult to read but overall I did enjoy the book.

Omg. Adrian is such a douche ... five beautiful kids and two beautiful wives and he isn’t ever happy. Selfish .. ugh. What a mess. Poor Mia.

Excellent psychological forays into the motivations of so many disparate characters…able to elucidate without judgment all our human foibles.
    I was very pleasantly surprised.

I’m a Lisa Jewell fan and have liked all of the other books I had read that she has written. But NOT this book. It felt it was slow moving and not exciting at all.
    Very disappointed.

More of a soap opera, than a mysteryReview of the Audible Audio edition narrated by Joe JamesonI've only sampled Lisa Jewell from Audible Daily Deals, of which Then She Was Gone was the first one from October 2018. When The Third Wife was offered in January 2019 it seemed like it might be a similar sort of mystery, but it was more of a family soap opera with a tragic death that initiates a family's examination of their past behaviour. There was suspense when you still thought there was something nefarious going on, but after it was all explained it was more sad than anything else. The narration by Joe Jameson was excellent though, especially when voicing all of the several children's voices.
