About this audiobook

Reference librarian Megan Clark has a passion for fictional crime—but when she and her fellow book group members go from reading mysteries to solving them, they discover that real-life crime is more complex than the most puzzling whodunit....

Tangled up in murder....

Excited about her latest writing assignment, Megan persuades the Murder by the Yard book group to accompany her on her research. Few of the bibliophiles have ever heard of string figures—a pastime familiar to all children who've configured the cat's cradle—but there's plenty of intrigue to satisfy the curious mystery lovers.

A valuable, unpublished manuscript about the beloved hobby is missing—and its owner found dead. Now Megan and the rest of the group are out to find the culprit...before someone else comes to the end of their rope.

the plotting was pretty good this time, with an inventive focus on folk art (killing someone with string figures!). however, too large and undefined a cast of characters got in the way, with the ‘murder club’ being mostly footnotes. while its nearly essential that murder victims in cosy mysteries like this are unlikable, the murdered here aren’t much fun to hate— one’s an incredibly tiresome strawman feminist. strawoman? additionally, the main relationship between ryan and megan got less pleasant to read, even, as ryan is sexually assaulted in a way framed as semi serious(???) and much of his narration involves how attractive megan is while being vaguely disapproving of her clothes and actions. theres also kind of a retcon in which he describes “noticing” her as an actual child (yuck!). all this while they banter without chemistry about how society was better in the past or whatever. it wouldnt be as noticeable if there was more to the plot and characters. overall, not a great time, fun concepts nonwithstanding.
