About this audiobook

Once the Countess of Riverdale, Viola Kingsley throws all caution to the wind when adventure calls in the form of a handsome aristocrat.. Two years after the death of the Earl of Riverdale, his family has overcome the shame of being stripped of their titles and fortune-except for his onetime countess, Viola. With her children grown and herself no longer part of the social whirl of the ton, she is uncertain where to look for happiness-until quite by accident her path crosses once again with that of the Marquess of Dorchester, Marcel Lamarr. Marcel Lamarr has been a notorious womanizer since the death of his wife nearly twenty years earlier. Viola caught his eye when she herself was a young mother, but she evaded his seduction at the time. A prize that eluded him before, she is all the more irresistible to him now although he is surprised to discover that she is as eager now for the excitement he offers as he is himself. When the two defy convention and run away together, they discover that the ties of respectability are not so easily severed, and pleasure can ensnare you when you least expect it..

I enjoyed this story about Viola and Marcel. I loved the emphasis on the family as well as the closeness that developed between Marcel and his children. I half hoped Viola would announce a pregnancy at the end lol. Great book

Well, that was a lovely romantic idyll -- both in the story and for me, reading it. Sweet, snarly, amusing, satisfying. Yum.

This is the second book in a row in this series that I thought I'd be giving 4 stars to through the first 1/2 - 2/3 and then felt like giving 2 stars for most of the remainder. This one definitely suffered from the problem of 'how do you create a roadblock for the couple when there isn't really anything to keep them from their Happily Ever After'. I have nothing against a misunderstanding between two characters, or a hesitancy to put your feelings out there when you're afraid you may be out there on your own. But I feel like those hurdles only stretch so far before they become very tedious. There's quite a bit of middle ground if you aren't steadfastly ignoring it! The other person said something discouraging, but then continues to do and say things that go against that- maybe question the original statement or reevaluate what you believe their position to be! You're afraid to declare your feelings-- but you can still be encouraging of theirs until you gain a better understanding of how you both feel. Instead these two pretty much sabotaged their chance at happiness at every turn. Almost going out of their way to insure they would end up alone and miserable. It is all too common in romances, but still very lame. I've liked a lot of Balogh's other books though, so I'll continue on even though this particular series has been a let-down.

I kind of adore this family and series. Mary Balogh does a gorgeous job with her characters and all their quirks and goodness. This book especially showed how much this family loves each other, and it was wonderful to see. Also amazing that Viola gets an HEA at 42 after having a crap husband who at least gave her three great kids. And Marcel went through a lot to get to his HEA at the end too, which was rather heartbreaking but lovely to read.

So when the Earl of Riverdale died it was discovered that he had a bigamus marraige. This is a tale of his one-time countess Viola who is trying to get a sense of herself after allthe fuss and noise has died down. She bumps into the Marquess of Dorchester, Marcel Lamarr, whom she was attracted to before. So they run away and have some fun, only their families find them and they're engaged suddenly. There was a lot of assumption and a lot of pearl clutching by various parties but there was also a lot of romance and two characters who needed each other. There were times where it dragged a bit and where things felt a little forced but overall it was entertaining.

I liked the other books in this series much better. The series as a whole as a strong psychological aspect to it. In this one, the heroine is depressed (not clinically) and the hero has totally withdrawn as a decent human being due to a traumatic incident in his past. I liked that they were an older couple with a past but I found much of the book slow-going for some reason. Maybe there was too much repetition of each character's feelings. The book had no humor and no other particularly interesting characters, with the exception of the hero's daughter Estelle.

Viola has done her very best to maintain her grace and dignity beneath the huge changes in her fortune. But all the love and acceptance can't seem to protect her from the emotional storms she faces. A chance meeting with an old infatuation dares Viola to throw caution to the wind and pretty soon she is caught up in another situation not of her choosing. I liked the way the characters got carried away in the fabrications they created, but also how underneath it, there was an element of truth.

Viola Kingsley is the once Countess of Riverdale who found after her husband's death that her marriage was bigamous. After two years of living a life turned upside-down, she flees a family gathering when she runs into Marcel Lamarr, now Marquess of Dorchester, a rake who she had spurned previously when she thought she was a married woman. Now she decides that a brief affair might be just what she needs.I've enjoyed the earlier books in this series but I wasn't sure about this one before I read it. Viola and Marcel are middle-aged; other authors have not always treated older couples well in romance. This book was delightful. Both Viola and Marcel are true to themselves, having lived some, yet are still willing to reach out for love. The rest of the Wescott family and associated members make appearances which makes me happy. And I want to know more about the future for Marcel's twins.Another fine Balogh book.

Title: Someone to CareAuthor: Mary BaloghPublisher: Berkley Publishing GroupReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"Someone to Care" by Mary BaloghMy Thoughts...This was quite a interesting Victorian historical fiction read by this author will capture your attention from the first chapter. I liked this captivating story of Viola Kingsley and Marcel Lamarr who reconnected after many years and find a second chance at love and life. What brought this story up to this point? Well, from a loveless marriage for 23 years to find out at her husband [the Earl was a bigamist] death Viola Kingsley wasn't marriaged at all and her children were illegitimate. 'Being cast out of proper society after learning her marriage and life as a Countess' was a farce she decides to leave the area for a home by herself he meets Marcel Lamarr [an old flirt, a rogue who she rejected 14 years ago] and they decide to run away together and this is where this story will take off.To get the rest of this intriguing story you will just have to pick up "Someone to Care" to find out the rest of the story which will become somewhat a complicated life as we learn more about Viola and Marcel's feelings for each other that slowly grows into a slow friendship and then develops into love. However, they had both had 'experienced great pain in their life and dealt with it quite differently.' I will stop here and say if you are into a 'older heroine and hero' getting their HEA then this engaging read would be for you.

Enchanting!Screaming from loneliness the Countess of Riverdale, Viola Kingsley runs, well really by happenstance falls into the arms of a former 'never happened adventure' in the person of the well practiced rake, the Marquess of Dorchester, Marcel Lamarr , in this funny/serious autumn romance. An invigorating plot where two souls who decide on a spur of the moment romantic adventure embark on more than they bargained for.At last the story of the wife who found herself trapped in a bigamous relationship and lost all. The emotional toll and how she's not managing behind that oh so proper facade rings so true. And then there's the family who see her, but don't really see her--their shock and horror about her disappearance and the disapproval of who she disappears with.I really just wanted them to leave Viola alone to work out her own destiny. And that's why she ran, because she was alone despite having all these people who cared about her.As for her and Marcel ... Well!A NetGalley ARC

Viola Kingsley dutifully wed the lord her parents had picked out for her. She endured a loveless marriage for 23 years, until his death revealed that it had been no marriage at all; the Earl of Riverdale had already had a wife when he married her, so the marriage was invalid and her children illegitimate. Now, two years later, Viola lives quietly in the country. At the christening for her grandson, she finally becomes overwhelmed by the family concern and sets off for home by herself in a rented carriage. On the way, she meets up with an old flirt, Marcel Lamarr, whom she rejected fourteen years ago to remain faithful to her husband. On an impulse, she accepts his suggestion that they run away together--just for a while. After an idyllic few weeks in his cottage by the sea, their concerned families catch up to them. Things then become complicated. Two appealing older characters and an unconventional romance make for an appealing read.
