This is a fast moving narrative that contains two pursuits of bad men. Initially, the novel opens with the murder of a farm couple and the weeks old son. Then we switch to the town of Sweetwater where 15 year old bounty hunter,Tyree Johnson, has arrived to capture a local store keeper who he thinks is the killer of a woman and her lover despite the local Sheriff' Hitch's declaration that he could not be the man. Hoever he does proves to be the killer and Tyree is joined by the sheriff and a unemployed cowboy named Aces Connor in taking the killer back to Cheyenne for trial. After many adventures most of which resulted in them losing their prisoner several times and recapturing him, the main chase for Tyree is finding the three killers of his parents and the attempted killing of him who was the baby in the opening chapter. Sheriff Hitch and Aces Connor stick with Tyree for the entire trip and what a trip it becomes.Ralph Compton died in 1998.
