- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was captivated by the ups and downs of the relationships in this story. I loved the way Ms. Winters developed the story slowly and deliberately, moving from dislike to respect to love as easily as she moved from New York to Sydney, with a stop-over in Viet Nam. I appreciated that the sex, which was inevitable, did not come (pun not intended) until the characters were ready to take that step.
Ms. Dawes narration made it even better. She switched between Australian, American, Polish-American and French accents flawlessly and managed to individualize each character. I am now searching for other books Ms. Dawes has narrated.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best lesbian romance books I’ve ever read! The characters were fabulous, voice acting was spot on, and the side plots were great. All the supporting characters had depth to them and were interesting too. Very happy I read it!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Omg I cannot believe Ilistento an entire book before even a kiss. Love Helena attitude.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I've ever listened to! Both writer and narrator did an exceptional job!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent fun. Good story, if a little stretched out. The narrator manages to sound passably Australian except for the very weird American ‘a’ vowels which are grating. Re audio quality - The very last word at the end of each chapter is clipped short.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The best story! Superb narration! Highly recommended. I love it!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5beautifully written. loved how their relationship progressed and how they struggled to accept it for so long.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The writing is good.
Also, I think after listening to 3 Angela Dawes’ narrations, her voice acting here is one I like best.
I love Elena and her way of thinking I understand most. It’s a world of sharks out there at the the top. As much as I like Maddie, there are times where I find her impatient and too naive.
The lucky strikes was too convenient a plot device. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have listened to hundreds of books over the last year and I have to say this is by far one of the best written books I have had the privilege to read/hear. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best book ever! Loved the characters and specially the narrator, she did an awesome job!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story if you are in it for the textbook lesbian story, with an ending ticks boxes. Of course, it's your typical over the top setting.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's strange I didn't like the book in the beginning, but before I noticed I was caught with the characthers and the story. Angela Dawe does a magnificent work on this audiobook, as always. I recoomend it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I loved it! I've been meaning to read this since forever, and it didn't disappoint. And the plot is really good, and the characters are lovely. And The reader is amazing, the way she changes her voice and tone! Just wow!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really liked the story. Good strong characters and a bit of fun thrown in.....till the very last 5 minutes. The ending was very week. After all the tension. I would have expected a lot deeper interaction between Maddie and Elena. All that build up and poof, 4 months later and the end. :(
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is pretty good. Give it a try folks! ??
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow just wow! Breath taking book! A must ready for sure.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really liked the speaker, even though the starting chapters were a bit „rough“. The story I really liked a lot, the development of the characters I found a lot of fun. I hope to get more from the author in audio book form!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It my 2nd time reading this story and I find it as superb as the 1st time I listened to it! It's so flawless & fluid and I looove the intense slow burn and the fact that they don't jump into an affair immediately. It's very organic how the relationship develops. Absolutely brilliant! My favorite Lee Winter story so far & Elena is my no.1 ice queen. Of course, Angela Dawe is a win with every narration! One of my top 3 fave narrators.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome book! I really enjoyed listening to it. 5 stars!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Angela Dawe is just amazing with all the different accents! Nice slow burn. HEA
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Compelling, complex characters face the harsh realities of those who work for or run media outlets owned by large corporations whose singular purpose is profit. Lee Winter’s super power is creating MCs whose talents, ambitions, and personal flaws bring them to life as real people facing real challenges, not the one-dimensional, cliched characters found in too many
lesfic books. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoyed this very much! Definitely kept me guessing from chapter to chapter.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Since listening to the Breaking Character audiobook, Lee Winter and Angela Dawe have become my favourite pair ! Lee's writing is just exquisite and the way her stories unravel is just the best. Meanwhile, Angela really brings the characters to life better than I can in my head ! The way she mimics the accents is very addictive ! ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Superb!
This is my second time reading The Brutal Truth, and it still stands as one of my top three favorite lesbian romance stories. I love the amazing chemistry between Elena and Maddie. Besides their physical attraction, Elena and Maddie's relationship consists of a captivating sense of familiarity, eagerness, and attention to small details. One can only fall in love with Maddie's genuine and contagious personality. Because of her notorious reputation, complex personality, and cryptic responses, Elena "Tiger Shark" Bartell is a perfect example of an Ice Queen. Even the picture of her on the audiobook version of the story sends shivers down my spine. And that sex scene? Hot. Steamy. Sizzling. Passionate. All you would expect from a slow burn romance.
