About this audiobook

“Whether making my heart melt or my head burst into flames, Annabeth Albert draws the reader in and keeps them captivated.” —Gay Book Reviews

In the wake of tragedy, SEAL Mark Whitley rushed stateside to act as guardian to his sister’s three young children. But a conflicting will could give custody to someone else—someone Mark remembers as a too young, too hot, wild party boy. Even after six years, Mark can’t shake the memory of his close encounter with Isaiah James, or face up to what it says about his own sexuality.

Isaiah’s totally over the crush that made him proposition Mark all those years ago. In fact, he’s done with crushing on the wrong men altogether. For now, he’s throwing himself into proving he’s the best person to care for his cousin’s kids. But there’s no denying there’s something sexy about a big, tough military man with a baby in his arms.

As the legal details get sorted out, their long-buried attraction resurfaces, leading to intimate evenings after the kids are tucked in. A forever future is within reach for all of them, if only Mark can find the courage he needs to trust Isaiah with his secrets—and his heart.

Nothing sexy or romantic about kids. No thanks. Hard pass.

Loved this book. Really like how the author is giving us more than just the typical m/m romance. Loved watching the growth of both characters. Loved the exploration of what it meant to be asexual and/or demi-sexual.

Argh, I have a love hate relationship with this book. So many places I just had to bite my tongue instead of rolling my eyes and saying "Really??"
But yowza Mark's sexuality and exploration did wonders for my heart and nethers.
But then we get back to Isaiah and his arguments and it's like...(eye roll)...Seriously, dude?

But really it's the author right? If you put the deaths of a set of parents, one of whom is the sibling of an MC, and the orphaned children are in the daily play of the MCs lives, and include custody issues, inheritance issues, one MC discovering his sexual identity, deciding to come out, while the other grapples with growing up as an adult for reals...and all this within ONE MONTH of the deaths of the parents...

Welp. That's rather a lot for humans to handle. The kids don't seem upset other than one time missing mommy. One MC is way to attached to the other one coming out fully and immediately as a means of proving their love and commitment. Argh. Just. No. Also, I don't know any SEALS, but I have to imagine they have some communication training as being part of a team? Fer gawd's sake, couldn't someone have come up with a plan sooner? Like, weeks sooner? Ridiculous.

    But Mark. Gah.
I've got a soft spot for that guy. That type of character, I guess, as we've seen Maddox, Zach, etc etc, in this series.

And their beginning sexy times were so good. But again...this is all within weeks of major deaths.

But I am listening to the end.
    For you, Mark.
And now I roll my eyes at myself.

    ******

Ha, didn't make it. Their plan. Good lord. I just couldn't.

I really enjoyed reading about an ace/demi character, being so myself. Also, people can be immature, sure, but people also grow. They endure. I thought it was really a lovely story.
