About this audiobook
At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk....
James Ashwood.
He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.
Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip, too.
On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.
"Come have a seat."
Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild - but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.
When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow - he wants a commitment.
And the thing about the fortunate ones?
They’re used to getting what they want.

I was so utterly disappointed with this book. I have enjoyed other books by the author so this one was a surprise. It started out ok. Brooke was an ok character. She was this strong independent woman. James was this Uber wealthy, super hot hero. Then he asks her what she wants in 5 years. Her goals, being an au pair and traveling the world on someone else’s dime. Sounds......unambitious to me. What does James want? A wife and kids. So they can’t be together right. I mean that’s her choice, me personally I think she’s an idiot. I mean he’s super rich. He could give her everything she wants. She’s already planning on traveling the world watching OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN. Is it such a big leap to have them be hers. Heck I like my own kids way more then I like other peoples. But I digress. The reason why I stopped reading.....
“Torn between wanting to submit to my desire or hold my ground, I turn toward him, and his mouth crashes down on mine without warning. He kisses me mercilessly even as I struggle against him. My hands fight their way between us and I try to shove him off, but his ironclad embrace is too strong for me to break. I know I won’t be able to outmaneuver him, so I resist in a simpler fashion by holding completely still. He can force me against him, but I don’t have to respond, and I don’t have to kiss him back. My rebellion makes him even more annoyed. His grip bites into my hip and his mouth moves over mine relentlessly.”
THIS IS NOT CONSENSUAL. THIS IS NOT OK. Yes she went to Vegas with him. Yes she likes him and he’s aware of that. THAT DOES NOT MAKE THIS OK!!!! I don’t care if your married to the man, if you’ve been with him for 30 years. If you are mad at him, if you do not want him to be physically intimate with you, if you push and “struggle” against him, that is a form of sexual abuse. To make it into romance is just so wrong.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The middle of the book seemed focused on the heroine constantly changing her mind about how she felt about the hero. Actually both Brooke and James blew hot and cold through out. It got tiresome and I felt the book could have been 20% shorter. I did like the kids she was tutoring though.
Also I didn’t get a strong sense of chemistry between them.
It was very nearly a do not finish for me.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the first book I’ve heard from this author, and I was definitely pleased! The audio version was very nice to listen to. I think this book was very well written and I like the main characters voice (not the audio sound). I laughed every now and again, and I kept wanting to continue until I reached the end. Great book and I highly recommend it!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54 stars . R S grey is one of my favorite authors.
Liked this story - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good story overall. The two characters were like rubber bands with their feelings for each other. The incident in the speakeasy was odd to me. His reaction was surprising and I can't imagine any woman putting up with that. I also couldn't understand how he would never take to her defense in situations. I just felt that realistically and considering her desire to be independent she wouldn't have accepted that. For someone so in love with her, his actions didn't quite fit. Not a bad read.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Lots of laughs with the humor but the main female character was a little unbelievable. She was annoying and I did not enjoy her. Otherwise a decent read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this book . It’s romantic and funny , I listen to it in one day.
