About this audiobook

From the bestselling author of My Husband's Wife, a new thriller featuring three girls, one accident, and a lifetime of lies.

Three little girls set off to school one sunny morning. Within an hour, one of them is dead.

Fifteen years later, Kitty can't speak and has no memory of the accident that's to blame. She lives in an institution, unlikely ever to leave. But that doesn't keep her from being frightened when she encounters an eerily familiar face.

Art teacher Alison looks fine on the surface. But the surface is a lie. She's struggling to make ends meet and to forget the past. When a teaching job at a prison opens up, she takes it, despite her fears. Maybe this is her chance to set things right. Then she starts to receive alarming notes; next, her classroom erupts in violence.

Meanwhile, someone is watching both Kitty and Alison. Someone who never forgot what happened that day. Someone who wants revenge. And only another life will do. . .

I would actually say 2.5 stars for this one. It’s really hard to like characters who continue to make stupid decisions or are malicious. Also, this book changed directions so many times with who did what and who was responsible for this or that, that by the time I finished I couldn’t tell you what the actual point of origin was for the events that unfolded. It seemed that everyone, at some time or another, felt they were responsible for the accident or the myriad of other issues and mishaps that befell Alison and Kitty. You want to keep reading to find out what happens but I can’t say you will be satisfied with the results.

I had a hard time getting into this book. I'm glad I continued to read because it got better the farther I got into the book.

I am reviewing Blood Sisters, by Jane Corry. Here's what I thought:

^^ Three little girls. One good. One bad. One dead.

^^ This is a story of three parts, told by two different ladies, half sisters, Alison and Kitty, both of whom are living very different lives. Alison recently got a job in an men's open prison and Kitty has been living in a care home, disabled, unable to speak and with no memory of what happened to her.

^^ After a series of "too good to be true" coincidences at the beginning, I thought to myself, early readers of this book are not going to like this, because a lot of what was happening appeared unbelievable and realistic. I almost stopped reading myself, but then decided against it as I wanted to see how it all panned out. After all, the author, Jane Corry is not stupid, there must be some trick up her sleeve, right? At least this is what I hoped...

^^ I'm so glad I carried on, for not long after it all became clear and what on the surface seemed like a simple novel about sibling rivalry actually turned out to something much more complex and shocking. Just as I had suspected. It turned out to be a very well written, satisfying and most enjoyable read. Very cleverly thought out.

Overall: Whether you can't get past the coincidences is something only you can decide, but I thoroughly enjoyed this, and the reasons behind it. Towards the end there was quite simply one twist after the other. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, I was proved wrong. Again.

This is the first novel I've read by this author and it won't be the last. Ms. Corry had me hooked from the very beginning, Alison who is on the edge of being neurotic by running from something that has happened from her past, she's constantly changing homes and never lets anyone get to close to her. Her only acquaintances are the students who take her art classes at the local college. She is barely able to make her rent while just teaching the one class so when she receives a flyer in regards to teaching an art class at a local Men's prison colony money is too great to pass the opportunity up. Kitty is Alison much younger half-sister who is living in an assisted care home as a result of traumatic brain injury which causes her to have violent outbursts. Kitty was not an easy child, she tormented Alison while they were growing up practically making life impossible for Alison. Kitty's injury is so that she can understand what she is trying to say but she's can't convey her message to others. No one is exactly sure exactly what caused Kitty's accident so that's a mystery. This diabolical novel shouldn't be missed. There is so much going on that the reading is constantly learning something new regarding this family in each chapter. Ms. Corry does an excellent job in tying all these loose ends together to bring the reader to the shocking end. Disclosure: the opinions I expressed are my own, I was provided with a copy of this e-galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Alison works as a lecturer teaching stained glass creation. To help her income Alison applies for a post at a local open prison where she hopes her skills can benefit those due for early release. Kitty, following a road accident, has suffered acute brain damage now requiring 24 hour hospital care. The connection between these young ladies soon becomes apparent and as the story unfolds we learn the secrets that bind them together both in the past and the present. On first introduction the reader has naturally great sympathy for Kitty, her almost vegetable state and inability to communicate, but Alison has also been affected by events from her childhood now manifesting in her need to self harm....."It doesn't hurt enough. Never does. For it's the cuts we hide inside that really do the damage."This story for me is stepping out of my reading comfort zone and surprisingly enjoying a style of writing where the reader becomes a bystander as events unfold through the voices of Alison and Kitty. What is particularly poignant is the fact that Kitty cannot communicate by speech and her thoughts can only remain as thoughts not shared with the other players in the book but only with the (privileged) reader. This is a very powerful story telling tool as the more you read the more you can appreciate and understand how difficult life is for someone so incapacitated . The author effectively displays the structures and need that exists within the family unit and how, even in our darkest moments, that warm felling of love and tenderness can overcome the greatest adversity. Now please do not suffer under the illusion that this is a banal and trite story, I am a reader and reviewer more comfortable with crime and horror and yet I managed to read this 400 page thriller in a day.....it is good! Many thanks to the good people at netgalley for supplying me with a gratis copy in exchange for an honest review, and that is what I have written.

Well, this was a twisty sort of read! Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen it threw a curveball at me.Alison is one of the main characters in this story. She's in her mid-30s and is still suffering the after-effects of an accident when she was 18. Not physical after-effects but psychological ones. The accident left her 11 year old sister, Kitty, brain-damaged. We hear from Alison and Kitty in 2017 and back in 2001 around the time when the accident happened.I enjoyed hearing from both protagonists. Alison's story is compelling and a real page turner and then Kitty, trapped in her body, able to think but unable to speak, is fascinating. What secrets does she hold?Alison takes a job working as artist-in-residence at an open prison and what a brilliant setting this was. It really ramped up the tension as Alison didn't know who she could trust. Even more interesting is the fact that the author held a similar position in a prison herself. This book wasn't quite what I was expecting and I think it was because of the tagline which refers to three little girls. Except Alison was 18 so not so little. Once I had got my head around that I was absolutely engrossed in this fantastic psychological read. There's so much going on in this story. It's a 450-odd page read so fairly lengthy but it flew past. Relatively short chapters helped and the cliffhangers that appeared often at the end of them kept me turning those pages as fast as I could.I think that, as with all psychological thrillers, there's an element of the fantastical about it. To make it into that twisty read I mentioned earlier there has to be some fairly unlikely events and circumstances (everyday life can be a bit too mundane to write about) but if it's done well, as it is here, then it still works. The story unfolds quite slowly as we are given little bits of information about the past. This just added to the tension for me. I thought it was such a well written story. Unfortunately, at times I did have to put it down otherwise I would describe it as unputdownable. It's a fantastic read!

This was an excellent, very twisty read! The first chapter starts out with a news report of a murder in a prison and then the main story begins unfolding. As you read it seems as if the two stories are unrelated, but then all the strings begin to get pulled and the clues begin to drop so that it all comes completely unraveled and then slowly, very slowly, put all back together again. I thought there were lots of surprising moments and all the details were tied up really nicely. I received an advance copy for reading in exchange for an honest opinion.

Definitely a different type of story. It was a bit confusing to me at first as it goes back and forth in time. I’d give 3.5 stars. Second half really picks up nicely.

I really enjoyed reading this book, a story of sibling rivalry. This book started out slow but as soon as it picked up it had me hooked and I did not want to put it down. A must read thriller that kept me guessing until the end.
