About this audiobook

"Julia Whelan reads the novel in her low, pleasant voice, moving down a register to capture Richard's infuriating condescension and lightening slightly for the younger Emma. With its perfidious turns, this escapist entertainment is a fine example of the 21st century's more cynical version of the O. Henry ending." The Washington Post

From Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen comes the next hit audiobook thriller, an instant New York Times bestseller!

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife.
You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement – a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love.
You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle.
Assume nothing.

Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Listen for the truth between the lies.

Praise for The Wife Between Us:

"Addictive domestic thrillers with twist-filled plots and unreliable narrators are increasingly popular. Add in assumptions that should not be assumed, shape-shifting, surprising characters and a complex chronology, and you have a hint of what you'll find in The Wife Between Us...All will be made clear, or perhaps not, as you listen to Julia Whelan's tautly paced performance." BookPage

“A clever thriller with masterful twists.” – Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author of The Kept Woman

"Readers who were enthralled by B.A. Paris's Behind Closed Doors and Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl will love the skewed psychology and shifting perspectives in this domestic thriller." - Library Journal

"A fiendishly clever romantic thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. This one will keep you guessing." –Anita Shreve, New York Times bestselling author of The Stars are Fire

"A twisty, mind-bending novel about marriage and betrayal. A gripping plot and fascinating characters; this book will keep you turning the pages and guessing until the very end. A must-read!" –Lauren Weisberger, New York Times bestselling author of The Devil Wears Prada

I read this book quickly because I wanted to figure out what happened. I wish the blurb didn’t kind of give away a big catch - it says you will assume it’s an ex-wife jealous of her husband’s new wife, and that key word, ASSUME, made my mind work overtime trying to figure out what it really was. Which means I figured out the first part of the book easily, and that would have been a nice twist. So I wish the blurb wasn’t written that way, but that could possibly be solved in future editions. The other twists were nice, and it was a decent book to escape into on a Saturday. I recommended it to my mom and she couldn’t get into it at all, so I think it depends on if you’re expecting a wonderful, suspenseful masterpiece, or just something quick to read and try to figure out on your own.

From the outside it looks like Vanessa is happily married to Richard. On the inside cracks start to show then before long Vanessa has a replacement.I went into this book not really knowing much about it just that it is a pyscological thriller which is one of my favourite genres. I really enjoyed this story. The start of the story is told by Vanessa and Nellie. Yes I could see where this story was going then a third of the way through a twist and I'm wrong. Off I go again immersed in the story and now I'm sure where it's going and twist again. Then the ending approaches and I feel a little let down and then the final twist makes the story all complete. This genre is one of my favourites and I enjoy a story with plenty to keep my interest with lots of twists and turns. This book did not fail to deliver and I really enjoyed it. I was totally engrossed in story and did want to know what was going to happen next. Nothing was what it seemed or what I assumed. A very satisfying read.

Loved the story and the plot twists. It was a little hard to follow the reading though with the switching back and forth between the women and the names. You really had to pay attention to make sure you knew exactly who was telling their part of the story.

This book held so many twists and turns but I was closely pulled into each one. I was truly captivated.

Meh. I didn’t care much for this one - it was contrived and too long by half. The writing of these authors is strong, and I liked The Golden Couple, but this one just didn’t work for me. I am also not a huge fan of this narrator (though she’s tolerable, just not my favorite) and sometimes that influences your opinion of a book in that it can make the characters annoying rather than relatable. I just didn’t think the motivation of the main character was particularly compelling and honestly she DID end up seeming kind of crazy but that’s all I’ll say so as not to spoil anything.

There’s only one really good plot twist and it happens before the halfway point. I’d say it’s a good starter thriller, but not a great one by any means.

This was a good domestic thriller, it will keep you guessing. I did not see any of the twists coming until they happened. Very well written and I liked it better than "You are not alone". Also Richard gives new meaning to the nickname Dick which was never used for him but really should have been, what a jerk he was. Also I am so sick of books being compared to Gone Girl which I thought was a really stupid book. How about we drop all the Gone Girl stuff and review books on their own merit.

For me the first half of this book was so incredibly boring, that I started more than one time to just delete it and find another to listen to. As I was listening on my way home from work one night, my thoughts were as soon as I get home I’ll delete it, but I wanted to listen to something on my way home. At that point I heard a change in the story and it picked up and got immediately better. The last part of the book was very good, until it got to the end with all the convolution.

Richard and Nellie seem to be the Perfect couple. They met fell in love and now they want a baby. The perfection soon fades and they divorce. His younger assistant seems perfect too. What this story becomes and the way it plays out is fantastic. Just when you think you know how the story is going it goes in tge opposite direction. Lots of strong women who know what they want and go after it. Love when the main characters suprise you and make you root for them. This surprised and shocked me and the end had me shouting and gasping til the last word.

This book confused the h*ll out of me. Each chapter felt like a different story. Once I started to understand what was happening the section ended and I was confused all over again. At first I thought the people were in her mind then something would be said that confused me all over again. I pushed through to the end. There were times when I gasped and enjoyed the book but for the most part I was so confused about this storyline.

I liked it a lot, but I thought the last plot twist with Emma was a little much. Plus, they don’t really go into the sibling relationship at the end when they made a big deal about it during the book.

Wow, this one was really good. It starts out you think its the revenge of an ex wife. However that is beyond wrong. So many twist and turns. When you think its the end and its over.... Boom! Here's another twist for you to add to this puzzle. I definitely recommend it.

i listened to the audio version. i found the plot very slow until half way through when the pcs start coming together. The blurb gave way too much away and detracted from my experience as I started doubting every character early on. The twists aren't really twisted enough for me and the ending is weak, albeit it gives closure. i felt like the story could have been told just as effectively with half the words!
