- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not much substance. Rather juvenile.
Just ok. Not going to continue series - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked learning a bit more about sled dogs and sled dog racing. I even kind of liked the main characters of Lauren and Shane--and I did appreciate the author showing that relationships have problems. They're not "live happily ever after" like the fairy tales suggest. But the problems these two face . . . I'm not sure romance is feasible in the time frame given. Lauren is grieving her father. While going through his things, she finds reference to him once being a sled dog racer--something she doesn't remember at all. In trying to research it, she finds a site that is advertising for someone to take care of sled dogs for an injured owner. Just like that she moves to Alaska (quits her job, breaks her lease, sells her dad's home?) Lauren has more understanding than I do. If an employer treated me the way Shane treated her at first, I'd have been gone. Or at least, I'd have put in notice to the group that hired me and stayed the 2 weeks or whatever was required. I do give Lauren credit for keeping her word. She committed to taking the job and she stuck with it. I thought Shane was a bit unrealistic in thinking he'd get someone with any knowledge of sled dogs since he seems to realize he's notoriously hard to work for . . . why would anyone with knowledge who could get a job elsewhere want to work for him?I did like the friendship Lauren developed with the girl from the library. I thought that was more realistic than the romance. (Not that a romance developed between them but that it progressed at the rate it did.)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let There Be Love by Melissa StormStarts with offer of a free gift Lauren has just gotten news that her father had died and she thinks that is impossible. they had just exchanged Christmas gifts. She quits her job because her boss wouldn't give her time off from work and prepares her fathers affairs.Memory boxes of their life are in his closet but she finds one about Alaska and dog sledding which she knew nothing about. All kinds of newspaper clipping and she starts to understand about his other life. One of Shane and his dogs but he's injured and needs a handler. Her dad was one of the top best.Wicked funny he has rules set for her while she's living at his house tending to the dogs and training...Love learning about the terminology of the mushers as she investigates her father and Shane's lives in Alaska.Fire makes him fire her and she leaves ... she thinks she is good with the dogs and agrees to help him when he comes back. They both have hidden pasts that come to light and they have a lot of turmoil to get through, alone or together?Next book involves Scarlett. Loved how this story came about. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.Review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let me put it out there that I love Melissa Storms books...all of them. But this one was better than any other book she’s written. It had me hooked from page 1 and to the end. Not that the Hurricane Irma was a good thing, but it gave me a lot of reading time and I never put it down. The story is about Lauren Dalton who is single person living a boring, unfulfilling life when she finds out her father has passed away. Now she doesn’t have her mother or father and she decides she needs to do something when she found some items of her father’s regarding his past that she never knew. So she moves to Alaska to take a job as a dog handler. The person she is to work for is Shane Ramsey a one time master of dog and sled racing. Unfortunately, he is a bear to be with. Since he had an injury he hasn’t been able to race and he also is keeping secrets. So Lauren and Shane have to live together and both of them need to let go of the past and move on to a brighter future.
