A new book from author Mary Connealy is always a treat, and when it's the start of a new series, then that's even better. The "Cimarron Legacy" series begins with Book One, "No Way Up". A near-death experience in an avalanche and the possibility of losing a leg makes ranch patriarch Chance Boden determined to bring his three adult children together as a family. He wants them united in heart and mind, for their own sake, as well as for the future of the ranch. As Chance departs to receive medical treatment for his leg, he leaves ranch hand Heath Kincaid in charge of the siblings, and he orders them all to follow the directives he has laid out in his will. The three grown children, Sadie, Justin, and Cole, will live and work at the ranch for one year. If not, the ranch and all of the Boden legacy will be left to a distant relative. Heath had noticed how pretty Sadie was from the very beginning, but he doubted she'd ever noticed him. Now, with him having to enforce her father's wishes, he felt sure he would never find her favor. When he discovers that the avalanche was no accident, Heath vows to protect Sadie and her family at all costs--but will it cost him his heart? Sadie has definitely noticed Heath, and she knows that he is a good, strong man, and also an attractive man. Can she put asides her doubts and let her heart lead the way? Will all of them find a way to work together and keep their faith and their home intact? I look forward to future entries in the "Cimarron Ranch" series from wonderful storyteller Mary Connealy.Book Copy Gratis Bethany House Books

To be honest I am not a fan of western novels but I thought would give this one a try and I am so glad I did! I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is also the first time I have read one of Ms. Connealy’s books.Yes, it was an action packed western, but I was delighted to see it also a romance, a mystery, filled with danger and suspense, but my biggest surprise was the wonderful humor throughout the book!Chance Bowden was a wealthy and powerful man. His children are grown and all have left the ranch except one. The other two have pursued careers they love away from the family empire. Chance is unexpectedly seriously injured in an avalanche. Before he is taken to Denver for treatment to save his live he calls his children, Cole, Justin, and Sadie, to his bedside and delivers a surprising ultimatum. They must all agree to live together on the ranch for a year or lose their inheritance ( a quite substantial one) to a cousin the detest. They grudgingly agree.Hired hand, Health Kincaid stands by them. His wisdom and skills become invaluable to the siblings when serious trouble begins to emerge. Much to her brother’s disapproval Sadie begins to see him as more than an employee. Little did they know when they agreed to their father’s demands how much danger they would face and what hidden family secrets they would uncover. A very exciting and entertaining book! I look forward to reading more by Ms. Connealy!I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers

I got a taste of this book by reading the novella The Boden Birthright and looked forward to learning more of this story. When Chance Boden is injured in an avalanche, he patched up and then sent to Denver to try to better evaluate and treat his injuries. While he is gone, the ranch hands that are left behind realize that the avalanche was not accidental and work to figure out what really happened. Also Chance's children must adhere to a part of a will that he has written and decides to enact not knowing the outcome of his healing. The book was full of turns and with the characters learning who to trust even when they feel different. I liked how the father wanted to have his children together again, but would not be sure how I would feel if I had to leave my current life to go home again. A very suspenseful tale that will have you wanting to skip ahead to see how it all comes out, but will keep you reading as not to miss any of the clues. I received a copy of the book from the publisher to read and review.

Title: No Way Up (The Cimarron Legacy #1)Author: Mary ConnealyPages: 304Year: 2016Publisher: BethanyMy rating is 5 stars. One of the first words that drew my attention was the author’s words to her mother before I even began to read the story. What mother hopes when her babies are born that they will follow the Lord have good marriages or fulfilled lives? There is no way to pay mothers for all they give so sacrificially without the children even really being truly aware of the cost to a mom’s heart. So I am sure Mary’s mother was touched by her daughter’s words. I like to think it really blessed her heart!A good western book is this new series that starts right off with someone apparently trying to rid the Borden of their land. The attempt made on the father of the family almost cost him his life, but the ranch hand named Heath provided assistance that probably saved the father’s life. Now, the father lets his daughter know about a change in his will before he leaves to see a doctor in Denver in case he doesn’t make it. The cost of hearing it was one thing, but for her and her older brother Cole to return to the ranch from places where they established their lives took the cake!So at first the three siblings Cole, Justin and Sadie wrestle through what this revelation and demand means to each of them. It brings tension right to the forefront of the story and continues to grow as the story progressed. However, what was really interesting was seeing the siblings draw closer together in order to fight whoever is attempting to get them off the ranch they have owned for almost three generations. There is a sequel coming up early in 2017 titled, Long Time Gone that I cannot wait to read. I want to see how the parents react when returning from their trip to find Sadie’s life changed and how Cole ends up healing from wounds he sustained in a fight. Justin is the one who tends to disagree with Cole most at first until the story focus changes to Sadie and some of the decisions she is making regardless of what her brothers think!Mary’s novel really is like the fast draw of a gun because of the speed at which the action and danger start right from the get-go. I like Sadie’s spitfire personality and how she is learning to mature in some ways that help instead of causing more problems for her older brothers. Heath is a good ranch hand more so a good man, and the lessons he is learning by watching how the family interacts really impact his heart and life. So I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for her fictional family and the Cimarron Ranch coming next year!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog.
