      Oh fuck you William Ritter. That ending killed me. Playing with my emotions so I was a sobbing mess for two different reasons. WTF.

      what do i say.. what do i say .... i have laughed, giggled, cursed and cried reading this series... and this book had the most beautiful teary ending... honestly i don't know what to say since am still a little emotional at finishing it along with my NEWTs readathon ^^
      all in all..... JUST GO READ IT . .you wont be disappointed ^^

      All the trademarks of the Jacoby books are present; the cast of characters; plot twists and twists upon twists. While the story itself was a bit strained, the book succeeds in wrapping up (or not?) a great series. And of course the narration was excellent as usual.

      Less of a mystery this time, more of an ongoing fantasy denouement. Still wonderfully readable -- flows across the page, hard to put down, I will miss these characters.

      I really enjoyed this as a conclusion to this story! I'm glad I've finally wrapped up this series but I'm also sad to see it go. I know this author has a middle grade series that I'm kinda interested in but I hope this author will continue to write interesting stuff.

      There's a lot going on in this book. They basically have to fight a war in this book so this definitely moved away from simple mystery solving, which I was a little sad about because I really like that part of these books. I also generally don't enjoy reading battle scenes, even if they are really well written. However, I understand the need for a bigger conclusion for the finale of the series and I thought it was pulled off well. This plot did feel a bit chaotic at times but really I thought that fit the general tone of the rest of the series and I really enjoyed seeing all the pieces get pulled together.

      The characters are still great. Charlie's family is introduced in this book and his sister Alina ended up playing an important role but I do wish we had gotten to know her better outside of the action scenes but it was nice to see more of Charlie's background. I liked the way that all the characters plot lines wrapped up as well, even if it was a bit harrowing. I'm a romance reader, so I love happy endings, but I do think it was a good decision to use the Twain to bring Charlie back, even if it was pretty predictable

      I'm sad to see this series go but I liked how it wrapped up. Honestly, I think this is super underrated as a series. Charlie is honestly one of my favorite love interests ever and I would really encourage people to give this series a chance.

      Though this ends on a huge light note ( pun for the readers ) it was not the book outta the series that has impressed me the most. Books 1 and 3 were my favorites.
      I keep forgetting , until I find myself deep within its pages, that Jackaby sounds like he might be in the spectrum a little bit. His lack of interpersonal skills with humans always seems to sneak up and smack me in the face. Other than the hand print in my cheek, This was a ssslllooowwwww A book with too many deaths, why is there so much violence? those damn fairies, oops did I spoil the big crescendo of suspense? No , because this book is about as predictable as me dancing to a Madonna song, it’s just gonna happen.
      So, save that ya coins, and tune into my social media page to watch me GET INTO THE GROOVE!

      Oh my gosh, what an ending to this series!The Dire King: A Jackaby Novel by William Ritter is the fourth and final book! The author makes the characters so well developed, and by the fourth book I feel I know them like family! The world building is awesome and original, the plot is great, and it is witty and has sprinkles of humor throughout the book. But the ending of this series as fabulous! Emotions everywhere, but we'll worth it! Terrific series!

      An evil king is using a blend of magic and technology to push the earth and the supernatural world into war. This installment, the last, was my least favorite, mainly because the parts that I truly enjoyed - Jackaby's Sherlockian mystery-solving - was almost completely missing and instead we got something more epic fantasy-like. A shame, but still a series I wouldn't have want to miss.

      I purchased this book from Amazon to read. All opinions are my own. ????? The Dire King by William Ritter. Abigail and Jackaby must attempt to save the world as they know it. Of course all of their ready made plans are not going to go as planned and it ends up going terrible awry. I love the references to older poems and Shakespearean  in this book. I love how History remains to be written and how it gets referred to in this book. I think now Ritter should begin a Rook series because it needs to be done!!!!! We just need you to keep being good.”The Dire King is the fourth and final installment of the Jackaby series and I found myself taking my time reading through it, not wanting it to come to an end.The battle between the Seelie and the Unseeliee, The Dire King and the earth, has come. Jackaby, our lovable and snarky detective, shows a more venerable side of himself during this book. The fate of two worlds rests on his shoulders and he carries the weight with apprehension and mild confidence. Since the first book I’ve seen the struggle Jackaby has gone through being the Seer and The Dire King allows barriers to fall and we get our first good glimpse of what Jackaby is like behind the bravado and banter. Abigail Rook. Ms Rook is my favorite kind of female lead. She’s strong and smart and has grown so, so much since the first book; both learning from and teaching Jackaby throughout her time in New Fiddleham. She’s also mild enough that she doesn’t completely take over the story and downplay the other characters.With the oncoming war looming, The Dire King welcomes back a handful of favorite secondary characters: Charlie (of course), Mr. Hudson, and Lydia, along with new secondary characters that quickly get under your skin (in good and bad ways). Through the series Jackaby’s motley crew has had a fare share of fights, but none as gruesome or as large scale as this full out war. Creatures pop up on both sides of the fight and add a colorful, kind of steampunk fairytale meets Tolkien-ish feel to the story. The plot is not as light and airy as the previous books, and defiantly takes a darker turn toward the quarter of the book, but the characters and charm of the world created by Ritter are never lost in the mayhem. I hate that this is the final book, but it had a well placed ending that let readers know even though the books are ending, the story isn’t. I always like that in a conclusion instead of a long, drawn out piece. I hope Ritter has more for us up his sleeves for the future, just as amazing and magical as Jackaby.
