    The Krakau came to Earth to invite humanity into a growing alliance of sentient species. However, they happened to arrive after a mutated plague wiped out half the planet, turned the rest into shambling, near-unstoppable animals, and basically destroyed human civilization. You know-your standard apocalypse.

    The Krakau's first impulse was to turn around and go home. Their second impulse was to try to fix us. Now, a century later, human beings might not be what they once were, but at least they're no longer trying to eat everyone. Mostly.

    Marion "Mops" Adamopoulos is surprisingly bright (for a human). As a Lieutenant on the Earth Mercenary Corps Ship Pufferfish, she's in charge of the Shipboard Hygiene and Sanitation team. When a bioweapon attack wipes out the Krakau command crew and reverts the rest of the humans to their feral state, only Mops and her team are left with their minds intact.

    Escaping the attacking aliens-not to mention her shambling crewmates-is only the beginning. Sure, Mops and her team of space janitors and plumbers can clean the ship as well as anyone, but flying the damn thing is another matter. As they struggle to keep the Pufferfish functioning and find a cure for their crew, they stumble onto a conspiracy that could threaten the entire alliance . . .

      Entertaining but I'm not going to rush to read others in this series.

      I can say with absolute authority that I have never considered the day to day operations of a janitorial crew on a spaceship and that was why Terminal Alliance appealed to me. I was curious to see how this story would be developed, also, the cover really intrigued me. I was not expecting to love this story as much as I did! It was a hilarious satire filled with double entendres delivered in the most serious of ways! I was immediately enamored with this story and its characters. Every character in this book is developed perfectly, including the alien species. I adored how the aliens were written in an environment that was unique to each of their needs. There were such wonderful details throughout the reading of this book that I did not want to set it down!Mops and her crew were a lot of fun to follow. When all the chips were down it was up to Mops to keep her crew in line and keep her eye on the prize. Which, in this case, was saving the crew aboard the ship who appeared to have reverted back to their feral, pre “re-education” state. Without a clear plan or an inkling of how they were going to be successful, Mops knew that she was going to have to try and do the impossible. What she never expected was to uncover secrets that would put everything she knew into an entirely different perspective. Terminal Alliance was a perfect read that had all the right components! It was witty, snarky, creative, moving, and even had a great cover-up plot. I absolutely loved it and I am eagerly anticipating its sequel!This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Penguin Random House. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

      This is a full cast audio of the story and it was great. Humans on Earth live like zombies. The Krakau found Earth like that not long after some bio engineered plague caused everyone to become a zombie. With their help some humans have been cured and they serve in a multispecies Alliance mostly as janitors or combat marines that have a short lifespan. But most of the universe see humans as dangerous and potentially stupid. After a battle the marines came back to the ship and reverted back to the zombie state killing almost all the crew except for a few janitors that were bio hazmat suits. Mops and her coworkers quickly find themselves having to take back the ship and then find out just what happened and how to stop it. By the end of the book, you find out just what happened on Earth to start the zombie outbreak and what the crew can do about it.

      When the Krakau came to Earth there was a plague that hit the planet and left humanity decimated and intervention seems to help but humanity is regarded as mostly good for grunt work, like janitorial services, which is what Marion "Mops" Amdamopoulos does. She's dealing with some nasty waste that requires breathing apparatus when suddenly all the other humans on the ship she's on go feral, killing everyone else. She has to disable the other humans, save as many of the crew as possible and stay alive to find out what's going on. The only problem is that this could expose an old conspiracy and several vested interests don't want that story coming out. Awkward...I enjoyed the read, good characters and an interesting possible future. I then passed it on to my husband who asked me for the next book shortly after reading.

      Maybe there is a good reason for the prime directive.... After a first contact between the Krakau and Earth goes horribly wrong, the Krakau try to make up for it. Their attempts to help the humans have unintended consequences because humans come from a very hard world and are determined to survive.

      I have a new favourite author! I simply could not put this book down. I must admit I only picked it up because of the amazing artwork, but boy was I blown away. Any Trekkie fan would eat this book up. I could see this movie play in my head, with Mops the alpha female, who I really hope will get together with Monroe (or has she already in this book? Read to find out). But no, it is not a soppy romance story. It is intriguing, read through the night and suffer tomorrow stuff.LOVE IT. Cannot wait for the next chapter. Please, some movie director read this book and make the movie. Steven Spielberg??? Are you reading this?And I am not going to repeat the storyline, read the other reviews for that, watch out for spoilers. I have to add I am deeply disappointed in Librarything for saying "you probably would not enjoy this book". Boo hoo. I did. Thoroughly.

      Not as good as Becky Chambers' world, but a close second. They seem to bump up against each other in a lot of ways, which is quite fun.Characterizations are not as strong as I like, but the unending perils and the novel ways this team address them is a wonder. The various intelligent species and their characteristics also deserve some stars.

      I received this book from NetGalley to read and review. Thankyou also to the author and publisher. Janitors in space, what a neat idea! Something new. Mops , on the spaceship Pufferfish, head of Sanitation and Hygiene, with her crew, save the world after an attack wipes out everyone else. Those not dead turn to zombie like characters. How can they fly a starship and fight off other aliens? With lots of difficulties, of course. The names of the characters were amusing and Earth history edited by aliens worked to explain it but with the restrictions placed on humans , not sure how Mops got to be so well educated.There was lots of action plenty of Oh, No! What will we do now? But always janitors find a solution. I would like a Puffy of my own.I did find the ending rather bizarre, that after the "real" history of their world is revealed, the crew takes off to rescue more aliens rather than fellow earthlings.I enjoyed the book but would never compare it to Pratchett's.

      Terminal Alliance by Jim C. Hines is the hilariously entertaining first entry in the new military Sci-Fi series, Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse. A mysterious plague has wiped out much of Earth’s population and left the rest of humanity in a feral state. The alien Krakau have come to earth with a cure and an offer to invite humans into an alliance of sentient species. Humans largely serve as soldiers or, in the case of Marion “Mops” Adamopoulos, as part of the Shipboard Hygiene and Sanitation team. A bioweapon attack reverts most of the crew of the Pufferfish back to a feral state. Mops and her team are spared, but now they must regain control of their ship, avoid hostile aliens and find a cure for their feral crewmates. In the middle of their efforts, they discover that what they know of Earth history may not be entirely correct. And the truth could have serious consequences.Terminal Alliance is first and foremost an excellent adventure story. It is aided by strong and likeable characters from Mops and her janitorial team, Monroe, Kumar, and Wolf, to the alien Glacidae, Gromgimsidalgak (Grom for short) and others they meet along the way. Mops follows clues that lead her team to different systems around the galaxy, relying on her own intelligence as well her and her team’s very particularized knowledge and skills regarding sanitation systems. Her efforts lead to answers, if not the ones she was expecting.One of the best things about this book is the way Hines uses skills that these characters would reasonably know to problem solve, rather than having them suddenly becoming soldiers. Brief chapter introductions shine a light on early Krakau/Human relations, including naming conventions and false starts at attempts to translate and communicate that result in gems such as “We come in harmony to defenestrate your dingo”. This and other laugh out loud lines throughout the book keep the mood light. Even with the humor though, the action never slacks and the story moves along quickly to a fast-paced conclusion that nicely wraps up the book while setting the stage for continued adventures in this universe.Terminal Alliance is fun from page one. I love these characters and I can’t wait to spend more time with them. One of the best new series of the year. Highly recommended.I was fortunate to receive an advance copy from the publisher.

      This is the first book in a new science fiction series, but don't let that stop you from reading it! There is a satisfying conclusion to the story with a set up for future ones. Perfect for readers who are looking to try science fiction or to give to readers who think they don't like this genre. Plenty of humor and action keep the plot moving with enough science to whet your appetite without bogging you down with too many details. Throw in some strong characters and good dialog makes this a series I definitely will be coming back to when the next book is published!
