About this audiobook

The author of the international bestseller 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do turns her focus to parents, teaching them how to raise mentally strong and resilient children.

Do today’s children lack the flexibility and mental strength they need to cope with life’s challenges in an increasingly complicated and scary world? With safe spaces and trigger warnings designed to ""protect"" kids, many adults worry that children don’t have the resilience to reach their greatest potential. Amy Morin, the author who identified the characteristics that mentally strong people share, now gives adults—parents, teachers, and other mentors—the tools they need to become mental strength trainers. While other books tell parents what to do, Amy teaches parents what ""not to do,"" which she says is equally important in raising mentally strong youngsters.

As a foster parent, psychotherapist, and expert in family and teen therapy, Amy has witnessed first-hand what works. When children have the skills they need to deal with challenges in their everyday lives, they can flourish socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. With appropriate support, encouragement, and guidance from adults, kids grow stronger and become better.

Drawing on her experiences and insight, 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do combines case studies, practical tips, specific strategies, and concrete and proven exercises to help children of all ages—from preschoolers to teenagers—build mental muscle and develop into healthy, strong adults.

I absolutely loved that she gave not only a list of what not to do, but what TO do, along with examples of dialogue.

This was more of a self reflection on the issues I have and where they stem from, though it did not inspire blame but rather ideas on how to improve or repair yourself before you can repair a child. Fantastic, absolutely recommend even if you don’t yet have kids.

Amy Morin has very good things to say about what mentally strong parents don't do. She gives very good examples and stories. A lot of things were very self explanatory, at least to me. I have read a few other parenting books and it reiterates some of the same themes. There are some issues she brought up that I don't agree with her about, but it was only a small fraction. If you haven't read a parenting book before this one, I think this would be a good start, but I would encourage reading more than just this one.

Most practical parenting book I've ever read. It's a gut punch of reality. She provides examples on what to look at for ourselves as parents. I will keep this as a regular read and pass down to my children.

An excellent book for bringing up morally upright children who are responsible

Having listened to a lot of parenting books this was good as far as how to get out of the victim mindset. However, I disagreed with timeouts or forms of consequences which weren't natural or logical- as they didn't really correlate.

Amazing book! Wonderful insight. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas. I'll need to get a hard copy, so I can return to it whenever I need it, as there is a lot of great wisdom to be applied. Now my husband must listen to it :)
