About this audiobook
A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people’s secrets is silenced.
The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it’s not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that’s exactly what happens one cold February evening.
The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described “social information reporter,” or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she’d find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone’s done the same to her, literally—with a knife to the brachial artery.
Eve didn’t like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she’ll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn’t want to know…

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well this woman is a horrible person in and out she used people and hurt people in ways that were resealable. And the bad thing about her is that she was not going to stop. She had another victim in her site when someone she did not expect stop her but in such a way that brought the police into her murder. As the investigation goes on the Lieutenant Eve Dalles began to suspect that the identity the death woman had was not real. So with a bone doctor they were able uncover who she is and all her victims.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Packed with action from the start! Great book! Full of imagination!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Boring boring boring. There were only two victims and the last was an afterthought. Absolutely no action. Boring boring boring.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5love it can't get of this series can't wait to find out what happens next
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When a woman who loves to dig into celebrities' lives is murdered, the suspect list is a long one. Larinda Mars has gone too far in making the famous pay, and Eve must distill the list of her victims to a final few names. Still, the killer strikes again before she can make an arrest. Fast-paced and intriguing. Recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Secrets in Death is another winner by J.D. Robb. When Eve Dallas meets a colleague for drinks, she doesn't expect to have a murder take place while she is there. The victim is gossip journalist, Larinda Mars. As Eve investigates her murder, she finds that Larinda was doing more than reporting gossip; she was using blackmail as a way to satisfy her need for indulging in a high-end lifestyle. Eve also discovers that many of her friends, including her husband, Roarke, were targets for Larinda.
Even though the murderer was one of Eve's first few suspects, Robb still brought many suspects and clues to her mystery, making it interesting and fast-paced. As always, Robb also finds ways for something to come to light about Eve's relationship with Roarke.
Another good entry in the In Death series. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5There is fun knowing you are going into a book and certain things will happen. You know that Eve and Roarke will have a few romantic evenings during the book and Eve will catch the bad guy. Eve is primary on the scene as she sees the victim die but doesn’t see the actual cut that bled out the gossip columnist in the bar. As the case progresses we find out that no one liked the dead woman and it comes out she has been blackmailing people and making a tidy amount of money for herself in the process. By the end you find out why the victim is the way she is and the reader is reminded that Eve will get justice for her no matter the type of person she is.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Eve Dallas is back again, and this time the murder victim almost literally drops at her feet. She's reluctantly having a drink with Garnet de Winter at a bar Roarke owns, a French-oriented bar called Du Vin. She's noticed that a well-known gossip columnist, Larinda Mars. She barely notices when Mars heads downstairs to the ladies' room, but everyone notices when she comes back up into the bar.
Mars' arm is soaked in blood, and she is staggering and seemingly barely aware. It's not long before Dallas, Roarke, and Peabody are tracking down her killer, a search which gets ever more interesting when they discover she's been blackmailing the well-heeled.
Soon they find she was choosing her targets very carefully.
Also, that her background may not be the one her official records show.
I'm impressed that even 45 books in, J.D. Robb is still keeping the In Death series, fresh, interesting, and completely absorbing.
Recommended.
I bought this audiobook. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love the IN DEATH series. This one wan't crime action like usual... it was more quiet procedural, with focus on interpersonal dynamics. I imagine that as a homicide lieutenant DALLAS lands a lot of "normal" case... this just highlighted one of them. It was an interesting departure from the usual novels.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Fast moving and entertaining installment in the In Death series. I hadn't read one in a while and I've just read 3 in a row and found them all gripping. They stay fresh even though they use the same characters but the people continue to grow over time so that helps to keep me interested. The mystery does not depend for a solution on the killer explaining it all at the end but on police work by the chief characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5SECRETS IN DEATH BY J.D ROBB is the 45th in the in death series. This one opens as Eve Dallas finds herself literally at the scene of the crime, catching the dead woman as she falls to the floor.Eve, and her team, find out the dead woman holds the secrets to a lot of famous people (including her life & Roarke's) and that's all I'm going to tell you about the book.Even after 45 books, J.D Robb continues to bring fresh blood to her books and her characters. Just when you know all to know about Eve and her circle something new pops up. SECRETS IN DEATH shows there are still some life left to the characters and the stories!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have devoured each and every one of the books in this series. I can't begin to say enough glowing things about them. Anyone that likes a little romance, a lot of good police work, wonderful well drawn characters that you will grow to love very quickly...will want to begin this series immediately. With 45 books out in the series it should keep you busy for years or in some cases mere months:)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There is something especially satisfying when Eve investigates and solves the homicide of a despicable person. Here, a gossip reporter né blackmailer is murdered practically in front of Eve while she's meeting DeWinter for drinks at a club. Bad luck for the killer. As she works her way through the blackmail victims, sympathizing with each, she is relentless in discovering the truth. At this point in the series, I enjoy the character relationships as much as the mysteries. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peabody & McNab tying the knot in one of the next few books, which would be epic.Overall, another great read from Robb and one fans of the series will surely love.
