About this audiobook

The 6th historical thriller featuring Matthew Hawkwood, Bow Street Runner and Spy, now hunting a killer on the loose in Regency London.

London, 1813: Bow Street Runner Matthew Hawkwood is summoned to a burial ground and finds the corpse of a young woman, murdered and cast into an open grave.

At first the death is deemed to be of little consequence. But when Chief Magistrate James Read receives a direct order from the Home Office to abandon the case, Hawkwood’s interest is piqued.

His hunt for the killer will lead him from London’s backstreets into the heart of a government determined to protect its secrets at all costs. Only Hawkwood’s contacts within the criminal underworld can now help.

As the truth behind the girl’s murder emerges, setting in motion a deadly chain of events, Hawkwood learns the true meaning of loyalty – and that the enemy is much closer to home than he ever imagined…

The last in the Y/A trilogy featuring Chloe and her supernatural friends trying to elude recapture by the Edison Group. In this book the teenagers are still on the run and slowly finding out the true extent of their enhanced powers. I read this series out of curiousity because I am such a fan of her “Otherworld” series. As Y/A books go, Ms. Armstrong does a good job and hints at the Otherwold series enough (I really kept expecting Elena and Clay to make a cameo appearance) to keep me interested as a reader.

I can't believe this was the final book! Seriously...I absolutely LOVED this series. It makes me sad that its ended. Its so hard for me to finish final books because I can't help but be sad. Even though some have some great endings, I just hate seeing them end.Chloe has finally gotten tough. I loved seeing her ready for action. I was also dying for her to rape Derek! Seriously, those two had so much sexual tension I could practically smell it off the pages. Chloe was such a supportive girlfriend (although they weren't dating at the time) whenever he was ready to Change. I just wish there was more about them.Learning more about his and Simon's past was great, although I would have loved more info. Seriously, the only problem I had with this book was the ending. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy everyone escaped and Derek and Chloe got together but my god I wish we knew what happened AFTER. I feel like we were all left a little empty handed at the end.Overall, I loved this book, this series, this author! I'm going out tomorrow afternoon to buy The Gathering which is a werewolf book in a werewolf series and I'm really looking forward to reading her adult series Women of the Otherworld. I've got the first book right now so I'm really excited. :)Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Plot : In this final installment of the Darkest Powers trilogy, Chloe, Simon, Derek and Tori continue to evade the Edison Group that experimented on them as children and then locked them in a home for the mentally ill. They start to learn how to control their powers but it becomes quickly apparent that their powers go far beyond what their mentors could have ever imagined. They seem to be confirming everyone’s worst fears about them. They may not be able to trust the adults that rescued them either but they have nowhere else to go.I loved this series. I bought and read this volume the day it came out. I found it a very satisfying ending to a great series. Chloe remains a great female lead. She is intelligent and powerful in her own right. And even though her powers are not always ideally suited to direct confrontations, she is always able to think her way out of a bad situation. All the characters are well developed with good points and bad. They are real people, with supernatural powers. The romance that has been developing throughout the series finally comes to fruition here. But this isn’t a sentimental novel. The focus remains on the action which is fast paced and exciting right up to the end.I’m very curious to see what Armstrong will do next in this universe because she has written some of the best supernatural YA I have ever read.

Very fast-paced. Not, in my opinion, as interesting as the first, because there were so many 'chase scenes' and 'fights' - which I don't like. Never did find out what's up with the necklace changing color. And, for those folks saying 'it didn't end' or 'there's no closure' - well, Chloe kept reminding us this isn't a movie, but real life, and real life doesn't just tie up the loose ends and go on to HEA when the credits roll....

***possible spoilers***This was a fantastic conclusion to the series and I wouldn’t know how to end it as good as this. I am glad some of the loose ends have been tied up, however there are still some that are left open. I wonder if there’s going to be more to this (I hope!)The pace is slower than usual, but in return you get great character development Each of these characters had their own issues, and although the bickering still continues, each of them have grown up and matured. What I enjoyed reading was more into Chloe’s gift as a necromancer. There is a lot more to her ‘gift’ and that provided some good interesting reading. What was also interesting was Tori. Although still snarky at times, she’s kept that in check and even manages to help and defend Chloe when needed. I thought she grew up and matured the most. I started liking her a lot more as the trilogy unfolded, at first I used to hate her a lot, now she ended up being much more agreeable and likable. I was so happy with Chloe and Derek! I loved them both together. There was a sense of togetherness and they compliment each other so well. I loved how Chloe was so supportive of Derek and his ‘condition’, and Derek would protect Chloe by any means possible. I think they made a great couple! The story overall was good despite having some loose ends open and close. The writing was still excellent and there were still moments where you had the heebie jeebies. There were quite a few extreme tense moments (especially when you find out who’s on who’s side) and this was great to read, but what I enjoyed the most were the moments with Chloe and Derek. I really loved reading about them together. It was nice seeing these characters develop and grow as the story went along. The ending was really good with a few revelations revealed. Some might say it’s not really an ending as it leaves things to be settled. I still say this was a great ending to this trilogy and I want to know if there’s going to be more to it. Tori has become such a fascinating character all of a sudden that I wish there’s going to be more on these great characters and how they’re going to manage living on. It’s a great series and not one to be missed! I absolutely recommend this for YA Paranomal readers out there!

Excellent third book in the series. I loved the way that the story played out. It was extremely believable. Her characters are so vivid and real that you can easily get lost on their adventures.

I can't really discuss this without spoilers, so you should read these books. :) I think this is probably the weakest of the three, but that's probably because I wanted it to be longer. (Or, better, not end. Ever.)I'm really going to miss Chloe, Derek, Simon and yes, even Tori.

Great conclusion to the series! The action and intrigue never stopped. Chloe makes a choice between the boys and not without some heartache. The teens in this story have all grown throughout and it's most obvious here. The climax doesn't disappoint and I like how the tale's ending was a happily-ever-after type deal. It felt more realistic that way. Don't worry though, of course the heroes come out on top.

Ms. Armstrong's 3rd offering in the Darkset Powers Series, wraps up a lot of threads, but lets a few more grow. Our group of 4 plus help is back, Chloe, Tori, Simon, and Derek. Old friends and old enemies show up, and much more gets revealed about those who really are, and are not trying to help them. Chloe comes moer into her own powers, learning how to control them, and not pull things by accident. Derek finds his Change, and of course Chloe is there to help him thru it. Some of the angst between Chloe and the brothers is resolved, and they all learn the meaning of sacrifice in a pretty personal way.The series was good, and according to Harper, while she is only making a trilogy with Chloe and crew, the experiments of the Edison Group are far from over, as her next series is a continuation on those groups of experiments.

Kelley Armstrong totally rocked The Reckoning, and I am totally bummed that Chloe and Derek's sizzling chemistry has to come to an end - though a really heart-thumping end, I must admit! I still have some questions leftover, but gosh, I enjoyed myself way too much to mind the possibility of never knowing the answers!

When it comes to ending a trilogy, this wasn’t the best I have ever read. I was disappointed when I read the ending, seeing how the rest of the series had developed and wanting to find out what happened to all of these brilliant characters. But so many loose ends and plot holes were left at the end that I was a little sad that there wouldn’t be another book to fill them all. There should most certainly be another book to this series, because it ended a bit to suddenly. There wasn’t really a conclusion to the plot either. The romance with Derek and Chloe played out nicely, but the plot was rushed. Overall, it was a disappointment.

Dear Kelley Armstrong, I hope that we get to see these characters grow up and see them down the line. I love Chloe, and Derek, and I wish I could read more about them. This book was great, I read the whole thing in like 4 hours, I couldn't put it down. Thank you for being awesome. Jenni ;)

Just great fun. Loved this book, it's a lot darker than the previous ones. Chloe is still getting to grips with her powers but she is strong so the dead and also becoming more twisted and ugly. I'm so pleased the author made sure Derek and Chloe got a couple of pages to themselves in this book. It's the sweetest romance. Not forced and introduced in hints in book one and two. Loved it and have ordered the Darkness Rising trilogy already!

This is the third, and final, book in the Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong. It was an excellent conclusion to the series and I actually liked it a lot better than the previous two books. This book starts with Tori, Chloe, Derek and Simon with Andrew at the house they are hiding out in. Andrew is part of a rebel group that is focused on shutting down the Edison Group. Chloe and her friends want to go back and rescue Rae and Chloe's aunt from the Edison Group; while Andrew and his crew want them to be patient so that the rebels can stage a larger coup. Chloe is again running into evil ghosts, as she finds out that the house they're staying in has its own violent past. Chloe and crew finally get some training in their powers, but there is a still a question of who they can really trust.I thought this book was much better than the previous books in this series. We are finally getting some insight into how the characters' powers work and we get to watch them test their abilities. The characters gain more dimension (especially Tori) and are more interesting to read about.I thought that the chemistry between Chloe, Derek, and Simon was awesome in this book. You can just feel the heat between Chloe and Derek as an undercurrent to every action they do. Derek struggling with his werewolf abilities (which we saw a bit of in the last book) really adds depth to Derek's character and shows some vulnerability that makes him a character to cheer for. Chloe is finally taking some initiative and learning how to use her necromancer powers to defend herself (although she still spends some time whining about how little she helps in battle situations).A lot happens in this book. Chloe and Derek are being hunted, there are more betrayals, and more revelations. It was a very hard book to put down, I ended up reading it all in one day. It was hard to catch your breath at times. The ending is satisfying and I really enjoyed it. There are a few questions left unanswered and the future of the characters is uncertain.Overall this was an excellent close to this series. I thought it was, by far, the best book of the series. It is exciting and the characters really mature. I wasn't a huge fan of the first two books in this series, but after reading this book I agree that this ended up being a pretty good series. As far as reading more of Armstrong's works, I am not sure. I read her Women of the Otherworld series for a bit but didn't love it, same with this series. We will have to see what future works she writes.

Chloe Saunders and her friends think they have finally found a group of adults willing to help them escape from the Edison Group, the scientists who genetically altered their supernatural abilities. However, things become more complicated as they struggle to figure out who they can really trust as they try to rescue their friends who were left behind. The Reckoning is the final book in the Darkest Powers trilogy. This is NOT a series that can be read out of order as each book picks up essentially where the last one leaves off and it is a continuous storyline throughout the three books. All three of the books are filled with non-stop action as the teens must contend with a variety of obstacles to their freedom.Just looking at this book individually, I loved it. Chloe and her friends all continue to grow as they learn more about their powers and how they were altered. They learn a bit more important information about their larger role in the experiments and who is really behind the Edison Group. Their relationships within the group continue to evolve as each teen takes on new roles as necessary. There were a few times when I thought I knew something that was happening only to find out a bit later that it wasn't exactly the way I thought. This kept me a bit off balance which is exactly how the teens felt most of the book. The things they thought they understood were constantly shifting. However, as much as I loved the book, I did not think it was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. There were many loose ends and unanswered questions. After reading a bit more on Kelley Armstrong's website, I do now understand why she left things this way. The Darkest Powers trilogy is actually the first in a series of trilogies. While the next set of books will focus on a different group of characters, Armstrong says we will see Chloe and her friends again at some point in the series. The next trilogy is called Darkness Rising and will begin with The Gathering (Spring 2011). I can see how using another set of characters will be useful for approaching information about the Edison Group from a different direction. I do have one question about Chloe specifically that I wish had been answered because there was an obvious significance to another character but it is never explained fully. Knowing that Chloe and friends won't show up until at least the third book in the next series is an awfully long time to wait and I hope this question won't get lost along the way. (Yes, I'm being intentionally vague because I don't want to give away anything in the story.)

*SPOILERS*I don't think you can write a review like this, so far in the series, when so much has happened, when a book depends so heavily on the others. Hopefully if you haven't read the first two, you won't read any further. And if you do, it's at your own risk. :P What can I say about this that hasn't been said? I'm not the first to read these, and certainly not the last (I hope, I think they were great!). I still like the characters. I still like the story line. I like that Chloe finally resolved her 3 way love triangle. I like that getting adults involved didn't solve everything. In fact, it messed things up as much as anything. I like that we had closure on a lot of the story lines, if not all of them. (even if I was happy with the way they all resolved.) The adventure was great, and as realistic as it can be in this type of book. Setting was interesting, and always changing. For some reason I really liked it. It really worked in this book. I know this is a weak review, it is very vague, but it's hard to do without TOO many spoilers. I feel like I have talked about most of this for the first two books. My advice? If you have read the first two, don't miss this one. If you haven't, go start at the beginning. It was a great ride. =D

This is the third and final book in the darkest powers trilogy there may be spoilers from the first two books you have been warned!I’ve really enjoyed this young adult series by Kelly Armstrong, and so I’m definitely going to be checking out her adult books in the near future. If you’re reading this review then I take it you’ve read the other two books and know what the story’s about so I won’t go into that. Chances are if you enjoyed the first two books you’re going to enjoy this one- I know I did! As usual the writing was brilliant, the plot action packed and the characters their usual delightful selves. I really wanted to give this book 5 star’s because I really have enjoyed this series but I was really rather peeved that a lot of my questions didn’t get answered. I know that Kelley’s releasing another series set in this world with some of the characters from this series in it but I felt a bit cheated that if you want some answers you’ll have to read the other series to find out. I really think that was unfair and she should have tied everything up properly. You don’t get to find out why Chloe’s necklace changes colour and what that means. Nor do you get to really find out what happens to Rae which really irked me. I will be reading The Gathering though so hopefully I’ll get my answers eventually, but still definitely a bit of a con to get others to read her next series. Over all though I thought this was a very enjoyable book and I loved seeing Chloe get the boy I hoped she’d end up with. Thank you Kelley Armstrong for writing such a wonderfully action packed original series. 4 stars.

The Reckoning picks up right where The Awakening left off. It's hard to say much about the story without giving away spoilers from the previous books. However, I can say that more is revealed about the Edison Group and Chloe & her friends learn they must be careful about who to trust, especially when it comes to the people helping them. Throughout this trilogy, it has been so much fun to see the characters develop. You can see how much they have grown since the first book, The Summoning. The story is well-paced with lot of twists and turns along the way. I liked the ending; it was satisfying, while leaving threads loose for the next trilogy to pick up. Overall, The Reckoning was a fun, exciting read, and definitely my favorite of the Darkest Powers trilogy!

Reason for Reading: Next and final book in the trilogy.Summary: The four supernatural teens finally arrive at a safe house only it may not be as safe as it seems. In this concluding book of the trilogy they prepare for the final showdown with The Edison Group and try to rescue those who are still in their clutches.Comments: One can't give much information on what happens in this conclusion as it is all so dependent on the previous books with everything finally all coming together. What I can tell you is that it is a brilliant, satisfying conclusion! A fast-paced read with plenty of reveals and shockers throughout. While Ms. Armstrong has kept the high octane action fore and centre, she has also managed to fully develop Derek, Simon, Tori and Chloe's characters and relationships. They have all changed so much from the characters we first met in "The Summoning".This is one of the best supernatural YA trilogies I've read in some years. The Reckoning is a worthy conclusion that fans will appreciate having had the wait. The ending is quite interesting. Leaving us with a complete, finite finish and yet also leaving a few dangling threads and foreshadowing the upcoming future of the characters. This leaves the reader satisfied that the story is over, yet also leaves room for one to hope we may yet see these characters again. Which brings us to Kelley's next YA book due out next spring, "The Gathering". A visit to the author's website reveals it described as continuing the series while giving the current characters "a well-deserved break". From this I could envision this series continuing on indefinitely as sets of trilogies which really makes me excited. Now if I could only find the time to start her adult series, which is set in the same world!

I love that this series is tied to Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. I think it was a good series overall. I liked the characters and their development throughout and all the twists, even though some of them were predictable.

I feel like the ending was a bit of a cop-out though. They are still being hunted more of less, and I know there is another series "Darkness Rising" that kind of continues the story, but it is different characters as far as I can tell...

This series was not my favorite. I felt the first two books were very slow going. HOWEVER, this last book was pretty good. I enjoyed the evolution of Chloe and Derek and the direction the charactors went together. I did not like how Simon, Tori and Rae were left flapping in the breeze. What happened to them?? The book just kind of ends. Leaving you wanting more

I started this series with the second book,THE AWAKENING. Got confused, but enjoyed the story. Listened to the first one, THE SUMMONING, refreshed and ready for this--the third (and best) one. Each of the teens, especially Chloe, are getting more assured in their abilities and powers, much to the dismay of the people who take them in to shelter them from the Edison Group. Derek is having issues with being a werewolf, but dealing with them as best he can with Chloe's help. Simon is bummin' about his slowly coming along magical powers while Tori's are smokin' right along. What I really like about this series is how it shows the growing pains of being a teen as well as being a teen with uber abilities. Each has to mature emotionally as well become stronger in personality and powers. The blurb above from the back of the BOCD states that this is the last of the trilogy, but I looked it up on fantasticfiction for Kelley Armstrong and it posts that there is one more, THE GATHERING, coming out next year. I really hope so.Five growing powers beans.....

Note. This bookw as among my first reviews. The series dripped with the suspense, the final conclusion in The Reckoning had so many twists I was glued. I was sort of team Simon for a while, but eventually turned team Derek who I love! I pray Kelley Armstrong does one more book telling of the final fall of The Edison Group. This was a breathtaking series! flag

Maybe it's just me, but this book didn't seem finished at ALL! The cover said it was the exhilarating finale to the Darkest Powers trilogy, but really, when the book ends, there are just too many unresolved issues for this to be the end. First of all, they're still on the run and there's no plan and no end to the running in sight. Secondly, the budding romance between Chloe and Derek hasn't really taken off, and other than a few kisses, there's still much needing to be said, if you ask me. I found this a very disappointing conclusion to what was a great first novel.. Now... there's another book advertised in the back of this one; The Gathering featuring two new characters. Is it an entirely new book OR is it going to be part of the same series, just focusing on another group of supernaturals? Yes, I'm curious, cause as I said, this one just did NOT seem finished to me.

Ok, better. I was a bit apprehensive given the uneven previous parts to the trilogy, but this wasn't bad. The characters began to use their brains a bit more and the story moved along at a good pace.
