About this audiobook

Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves, in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska.

It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest.

But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out. He finds no closure because no one can explain exactly what happened to Danny.

And the more he searches for answers, the more he finds himself becoming part of the mystery . . .

Ronald Malfi is a master at starting his novels with a mellow pace but gradually speeds it up then unloads a bone chilling conclusion.

Well, that was the biggest disppointment in a Ronald Malfi book ever. The ending was so terribly rushed and stupid, that it ruined the entire book, which was NOT scary at all anyway. Cannot recommend this one from him.
    Skip it.

A creepy and atmospheric story which I quite enjoyed. The story telling was very well done and the narrator was excellent. What I liked about this was the creep factor without it being overly gory and the growing tension of the story. I will be looking for more by this author.

Well crafted, well narrated audiobook. Clean progression with a perfect balance of creepy and suspense, keeping you turning the page. Not a gorey tale but horror buffs wont be craving the blood and guts, it is well rounded. The ending was tiedy and left you sorrowful and empathic...I liked this audiobook very much.

I don't feel the story was as developed as it could/should have bee. The ending was predictable.

Malfi does it again! If you're looking to read a book that emits a feeling of palpable dread from start to finish, this one is for you.

Paul and Danny are twin brothers. It is said that twins have an almost supernatural connection and it seems to be so with them. When Danny, the more troubled of the two, goes missing, Paul begins to worry. That worry becomes dread when a man confesses to the mass murder of some campers/hikers in a small town in Alaska called Dread's Hand. He believes Danny is among the victims.

What follows is a harrowing journey for Paul to a town full of superstition and suspicion. It almost seems that no one understands the concept of identical twins by the way they react when Paul shows photographs of Danny. Paul becomes more and more frustrated when no one will talk to him, and he gets no help from the local law enforcement.

This book has a lot of genuinely creepy moments. There's no blatant "slap you in the face" horror here. This is a slow and steady build of complete dread. It's like living the story along with Paul. Everything he felt I swear I felt in my gut.

The end was quite the revelation. I loved it. I loved the whole book. What can I say? I'm hooked on Malfi. Can't wait to read his next one!

In the cold town of Dread's Hand, Alaska, Paul Gallo arrives in search of his missing twin brother. He will never be the same again.

“You didn’t arrive in Dread’s Hand, he realized, but rather Dread’s Hand came at you piecemeal, a bit of itself at a time, like someone reluctant to make your acquaintance..."

I'm not going to rehash the plot, as the synopsis and several other reviews already do that. I can only tell you how it made me feel. Uneasy. Jumpy. Disconcerted. All these things and more.

Ronald Malfi's writing keeps getting better and better. It seemed to me that in this book, the writing disappeared altogether, and the story was directly injected into my brain. Isn't that the best writing of all?

Bone White is that feeling you get when you glimpse something out of the corner of your eye, but when you turn there's nothing there. Combine that feeling with the cold isolation and cold people of a small closely-knit, Alaskan town. One that's hiding a secret. Don't expect long drawn out explanations here. Instead, expect crosses, headless bodies and dark shadows.

This is the second book I've read this month which will undoubtedly make my best books of the year list. You should read it, so that you can add it to yours.

    Highly recommended!

*Thanks so much to NetGalley and to Kensington for the e-ARC of this phenomenal book, in exchange for my honest review. This is it.*
