- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The first book in this series was very good though it went a few places that I was uncomfortable with. The second book was wonderful! The plot line was good, the characters were real, the mystery was puzzling, the whole things was just the kind of contemporary mystery I love. I was really look forward to this one. Once again the plot was good and the mystery was well-crafted but the characters! I wanted to slap them over and over and really, I don't think Zoe acted like herself at all. I hope the fourth book in this series will return her to her right mind and I will be impatiently waiting for it.Zoe and Pete sure looked like they were getting together at the end of the last book and this one starts with them seeing where that's going to go. They get a call to a house that has had a gas explosion and have to stop the husband from running back into the house as it burns to rescue his wife who dies in the explosion. He has a 10 year old daughter, Maddie, and Zoe can feel Maddie's pain, having lost her father at a young age and suggests that the dad and daughter move in with her at her farm. Obviously, Pete isn't going to like this since the dad is a murder suspect. Zoe has so many TSTL moments that I was wondering if it was the same character from the previous book. Much angst results from Zoe and Pete's differences over the suspect. The mystery had nice twists and turns. The characters except for Pete and Zoe moments of idiocy were superb. I love the style of writing. Please just pass on the romantic angst next time and I'll be a happy camper.Book provided by Netgalley but I always give my honest opinion.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54 STARS I like this series. Lots of drama, murder, fires and characters that I like. This is the third book in Zoe Chambers mystery. Zoe Chambers is a Paramedic. She is also learning to be medical examiner, not her idea either. Zoe lives on a farm in a apartment and takes care of the barn in exchange for housing her horse. She has started to date Pete. Police Chief Pete Adams has started dating Zoe after flirting with her. Pete and Zoe's relationship has a lot of drama in this book. Pete believes that Holt Farabee is guilty of a bunch of crimes. Zoe believes in him. She really likes his daughter ten year old Maddie. You were not sure who to trust. I did think each person was guilty at different times. I really like the one scene when she is talking about where her horse would stay with her partner on the ambulance. It made me laugh at his answer. I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Henery Press. In return I agreed to give a honest review.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Autopsies always made such romantic mealtime conversation.I loved the previous two books in this series so I was surprised when I ended up not liking this one all that much. It is kind of hard to like a book when you want to throttle the main character. I hated Zoe in this book. She acted like a moody teenager throughout the book. She became obsessed with Maddie, who had just lost her mother, and it got to be annoying. I just couldn't stand her when she kept trusting a stranger over Pete. It seemed like everyone blamed Pete for their troubles but I blamed Zoe. Ugh she just made me want to throw my Kindle. It really wasn't all that hard to figure out who was the murderer. I didn't really know the why but I knew the who pretty early on. The investigation into the murders had its bright spots (some of the action towards the end) but there was a ton of people just bumbling about. Pete seemed to be a bit in over his head and Zoe wasn't helping things.Clearly this was not my favorite in the series but I hope that I enjoy what comes next in the series. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley.
