- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This series is totally scaring the heck out of me, it just keeps getting creepier, and creepier. Perry always has a portent dream before one of her and Dex's ghost adventures which she always remembers with confusion. This time though, she couldn't remember a stitch of it, whether that's a good or bad thing, I don't know. At least for Dex and their web series I think it was a good thing since if she had remembered I'm sure she wouldn't have put a foot on that island. Her portent dream was everyone's worst nightmare, no question about that. This ghost trip had the best and worst effects on Dex's and Perry's relationship. The former Leper island they visited did a number on their psyche, especially Perry's, who was an easy target for manipulation, with her trust issues and constant musings. It turned them against each other and also brought them closer than ever. I just hope things don't get too weird between them and they can deal with the aftermath of what took place on this island later in a mature way.
Perry continues to be Perry, I've noticed how almost an entire chapter can just be Perry and her thoughts with a full on conversation between her and her. I've also noticed that I wasn't bored, no not bored, I might, laugh, scratch my head, scrunch my face at what I'm reading, or sigh, but always entertained. I think Perry is the most.....special, character I've every came across, at least to being in the head of a character like her, was....unique.
The creep factor, story, and Dex and Perry's relationship keeps growing with every book and becoming more intense. I don't want to even imagine how much more scary these stories will get, but my obsessive nature can't wait to find out. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This series is totally scaring the heck out of me, it just keeps getting creepier, and creepier. I was not as creeped out by this story as I was in Red Fox... wait, I take that back, because there were moments that were worse... But still, as always, tension and drama and spooky shit abounds. And potential death. Lots of potential death.
And now we're starting to see more to Dex and Perry. While I still think Dex is a total whack-job, I'm starting to think Perry is right there with them. If they're ever sent away, maybe they can share a room at the state hospital... SO intriguing. I find myself halfway through one book, already wondering what's going to happen in the next one. And I'm so stoked for Lying Season... I may not know what happens, but I've read enough reviews to know it's going to mess with my head in more ways than one.
Honestly? I can't wait to plow through these books to get to Dex Files... I am DYING to know what is really going on in his head, because, ya know, you can't believe what he says... somewhat... and I just really, really wanna know! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54.5 screaming stars ! Yeowzers, I was sitting on the edge of my seat for almost every page. Ms. Halle took me to my scary dark place, threw me in, then covered me with pure darkness, dead things and dosed me with some crazy thoughts and closed the lid ! Holy crazy bat-trip Batman I screamed loud when my husband came up behind me ! He's till trying to recover himself from that. LOL
Dex and Perry go to a beautifully dark dangerous island for a shoot only to find more horrors there than either of them where ready to face. There is little happiness in this edition of their story. She is found, he is too. Both have many secrets. They are just trying to get to know each other, kind of and everything seems to backfire and blow like the wind.
I still hate these characters as much as I like them and I just can't quit them. I can't !
Read it, and beware of creeping things in the dark ! LOL - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have to say so far this was by far the scariest ïnstallment in this series! Like I did dream about this book after I finished it...I was glad that some things were revealed but it was like pulling teeth with these two!! I hope I never get stuck on an island like this one.. Terrifying doesn't even begin to cover it. Finally we are getting more out of Dex too. He is like a locked up in steel and concrete book!He is closed up that tight! But I am glad Perry seems to be chipping away at his defenses. I still think Perry is a kickass character and real. I only wanted to shake her a few times :)

Only because - you know - I'm not a big fan of mushy talks and romantic angles when I could be getting more creep and gore. And also crappy timing of ghosts. You cannot forget that *eyeroll*
I'd find another HOT James Franco/ Dex pic but I haz a other books in the series to read. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am going to ask that all my readers please give me just a tad bit of leeway while I work through my absolute fangirl obsession of Perry Palomino and Dex Foray. You're going to see several reviews of Halle's books over the coming weeks, hope you don't get sick of me spewing about how fabulous her work is.While reading this book I came to two conclusions. One, Karina Halle has become my favorite author. Of all time. It was Anne Rice. Though no one will ever hold a flame to the style I find so dear in Rice's writing, Halle entertains me more than any author before. Two, I could not read any other book until I was completely caught up with this series. Seriously, I spent the week working, reading EIT books and getting very little sleep. I would apologize to my family now for neglecting them...but they are quite used to my random obsessions.Perry and Dex head to Canada for an extended weekend of investigating an isolated island that was once a leper colony. It is now a government run park but it is winter and will have no other guests on it. Just Dex, Perry, a camera and whole heck of a lot of ghosts. Mean ones. Scary ones. Ones that want more than this duo is willing to give, a lot more. The adventure starts before they even reach the island though. There are some moments and events that will begin to shape the relationship these two dysfunctional, yet adorably lovable, people have. Those events don't hold a candle to what happens on the island though and to what the island does to my two favorite fictional friends. One of the things Halle does so well is to subtly worm something so entirely creepy into your head that you don't even realize it is as scary as it is until it's too late and you're running around the room turning more lights on. What she has created on this island lives up to this signature talent. What started out as just a spooky island camping trip turned into bloodcurdling fight for life and sanity. There are things at play on this island that distort reality and Perry and Dex slowly lose trust in each other. Of course this happens after they have already taken their precarious relationship nearly to the point of no return.Let me say, there is a tent scene...and yeah, um...Dex. Dex. Dex.Oh, back to what I was saying... They lose trust in each other and as their communication breaks down, their anger and tension sky rockets. As it typically is when you send these two to film a show, it ends up with them fighting for their lives against some pretty damn horrifying revenants and fighting to hold on to some sort of lucidity and confidence in each other. There is something so entirely special about these two characters. They are defective in so many ways but have this overwhelming appetite to succeed at something profound, to be something they don't believe they can ever really be, to have something they don't think they deserve. The struggle and fight they have within themselves is what I find so utterly addictive. They are their own worst enemies and normally I get frustrated when a character takes to long to "see the light" but not here. Halle has written the turmoil so well that you understand and feel the struggle. It's as much of a turmoil for the reader and at times I felt like maybe I was losing a little of my sanity too. Which of course only invests me further into the series.I think Halle has created something near genius with this series and its combination of terror, love, lust, drama, humor, despair and growth. I am a fan and can't give any greater compliment than to say I can't imagine ever not wanting to read something she has written.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's no secret that I'm quickly becoming an enthusiastic fan girl of both Halle's Experiment in Terror series and of her, the amazing women writer. I devoured the first two books in the series and couldn't wait to get my hands on number three! It does not disappoint! Although, Dead Sky Morning includes another paranormal investigation adventure with main characters, Perry Palomino and Dex Foray, it veers slightly away from the ghostly and delves into the inner hauntings of the characters. The personal closeness is not lost on the reader and is delivered with a raw, natural awkwardness that mimics real life. Halle's descriptions reveal the vulnerability of relationships along with the flawed imperfections and magnetic complications that come from attraction, experience, emotion and rationality. Dead Sky Morning thematically focuses on morality, and does so through use of setting, history and present day social culture. The isolation is gripping and works to push the climax. By far, the most terrifying of the three books because of the emotional intensity. Of course, I don't want to downplay the horror and paranormal elements in the story. Oh, they are there and Halle weaves a visual that will put the reader right on the island--chilled, wet, muddy and feeling like eyes are watching from everywhere. You'll hear the cracking of coffins against the rocks. One minute they will be there and the next, they're gone and just like Perry, you'll wonder if you're imagining the entire ordeal. It's an experiment worth trying and I highly recommend all three books. Although, you don't necessarily have to start with Darkhouse (book #1), because each story is a complete spookfest, I'd consider doing so to achieve and understand the complexity and relationship of the main characters. This is a deep, dark horror that deserves high marks from the beginning. I must confess, this fan is ecstatic about the promise of book 4--note: teaser at the end of book three! I'll be waiting....
