Praise for Between You and Me:

‘What a page turner! Compelling, chilling and an incredibly impressive’ Alexandra Brown

‘It’s certainly one of the best debuts I have read in a while, it’s compelling and shocking, and very cleverly crafted’ The Book Review Café

‘Hall packs a punch with this one and the ending left me gasping’ For the Love of Books

‘It is disturbing and chilling. It feels very real. And a quick mention for that twist! I did not see that coming AT ALL. I usually spot these things and I didn’t! Clever! Very clever!’ Northern Crime Reviews

‘A gripping psychological thriller with a level of tension that will leave you breathless’ Tracy Book Lover

Between You And Me is that kind of book. The one that makesyou feel like you’re there, you’re experiencing the emotions, the hurt, the pain’ Bibliophile Book Club

‘Lisa Hall has wrote a harrowing, disturbing and chilling novel which I couldn't help but devour in a matter of days. She's one of those authors you don't see coming and BANG best seller, up there with the greatest crime writers like Stuart McBride and Lee Child. She's one to watch’ Brunette Lifestyle

‘It is well written, emotional and jaw dropping. More please!!’ Jo Robertson (NetGalley)

‘A compelling but shocking read and there are serious issues in it which should provoke a lot of discussion for book groups’ Laurel (Goodreads)

This is a good book.....until the end, I literally thought there was something wrong with the audiobook. Nope, nothing wrong just a horrible ending. I had to go back and listen to the last couple of chapters to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind only to discover that the author had!

I was expecting a twist given that the subtitle of the book is “a psychological thriller with a twist.” When I got to the twist, I was shocked but then thought to a couple points that seemed weird which now made sense - no spoilers but there was one thing in particular that I wondered about and thought “well maybe it’s less common that people do this in the UK.” Once I had a chance to reflect, I think the author did a poor job of setting up the twist. While there were two distinct things that gave me pause and foreshadowed the twist, I did NOT think “I should have known all along.” The two main characters’ behavior and ways of interacting with the world and each other do not ring true in light of the twist. I am definitely not going so far as to say that it’s unrealistic because it’s actually an important thing in discussions of abusive relationships but I think the impact would have been larger had the author tried harder to make the characters realistic rather than trying so hard to make sure readers were shocked at the twist.

Twist at the end was unnecessary and left me feeling tricked.

The book was okay, but the "twist" was very poor and confusing I ended up having the listening to the final 4 chapters again as I thought it was a mistake with the narration.

Wow wow wow!! Things are not as they seem!! Excellent book and narration. A tad confusing at times because the same voice is used for the female and male, however that is what also makes it a WOW listen!!

Not a mystery novel, just a story of a dysfunctional marriage.

The entire book I’m on the edge of my seat and then I get to the end and I truly don’t understand anything! What the heck. Who are these people?
    So disappointed.

I definitely would not call this book “a gripping psychological thriller”. Bland characters with a flat and predictable storyline. The big twist at the end, while a bit unexpected, still could not save it. A book about the case the law firm was involved with would have made for a FAR better read as it presented the only remotely shocking plot in the book.

I worked out the twist from the moment Charlie made the first phone call home from work, from then it was pretty tedious to listen to and not really that interesting... not unrealistic in the fact that these things happen but very unrealistic in the ways the characters are described and go about their dailylives. I feel the author tried to hard to trick the audience rather than making the characters realistic.

I was really disappointed in this book. After listening to the whole thing I was left bewildered about what the twist was, and was surprised to learn that I had just assumed the twist to be true from chapter one. On reflection that this was meant to be a twist, explains some of the weird bits of writing in it. Even if I hadn’t have guessed the twist from the go, I think it still would have been really disappointing. Really do not understand all of the positive reviews.

Made it to chapter 21 of 42 and I can’t go on. Literally the WORST listen, 0% entertaining. Feels like a caricature of an abusive relationship, no story other than documenting the abusive relationship from both characters. Neither are engaging. I read reviews about the “shocking “ twist at the end but I’m 99% sure after chapter 1 I know what it is but not engaged enough to skip to the end to confirm. Don’t waste your time.

There’s a lot of repetition in the book, an interesting listen nonetheless. Kept listening because of the promise of a “major” twist at the end. Very mind boggling. Really gets you thinking. Makes you want to go back and listen again with new understanding.
