As a hard of hearing individual, it is so great to find a book with a d/Deaf main character!! I really found myself rooting for Amelia not only with the case but with her life. The combination of a compelling main character and interesting mystery made this book a step above. The narrator breathes life into the story in a way not all can. Highly recommend!!

Overall I liked the book and would recommend it. There were a few places I thought were the typical “girl tries to do everything on her own” but I did like it. I think the narrator did a great job. Sometimes good narrators can make a mundane book better while other times bad narrators can make a great book awful. In audiobooks, a great narrator is a must!

I really loved this book! I love that she tackled a difficult disability without sounding like it’s easy. Although I’m not disabled, I appreciate learning abt others. I also believe writing in a common but misunderstood disability will help those that normally avoid deaf or blind or any similar disabled people, will try to extend their understanding and thus tolerance for different people. Good book

Not too violent or gory, but solid easy read. Won’t give you nightmares. I enjoyed this book mostly because of the perspective of the main character. Good for maybe a younger-ish audience, or someone maybe a bit more faint of heart. Was more mystery less murder if that makes sense

After a string of duds, finally a great book! It has an interesting and unique plot line; it hooked me from the start and I finished it in one day. Give it a go!

I thought the book was great. From beginning to end you think you've guessed what kind of a person could kill this way. Then it kept you guessing the guilty. It was well written about a woman that could not hear. I still wonder who caused her to lose her hearing.

The narrator was clear and expressive but the story was just too long and meandering. Also, the lead character was not the most likeable and her decisions were often silly. To be fair, the writing is wonderful but it seems like the book couldn't decide between being a romance novel or a thriller. It's a bit jarring to read about a murder scene and then in the same breath hear the narrator wax eloquent about Jake. I couldn't take it seriously. I wish some of the plot points were developed a more. Interesting premise though.

Finished this bad boy last night on my (very cold) walk.
I really enjoyed it, but I’m not quite sure how to rate it yet. I do have to say the ending pleased my wicked little soul, and normally these types of endings make me angry. ••
Amelia made me so angry in the middle of the book, but I feel like her behavior was justified in the end. I still wanted to punch her though ??‍♀️
    ••
What I loved about this book is the awareness it brings to the deaf community and the struggles they may face, at least from one POV. I also really enjoyed the medical twist this story takes. Though this may not be super rare in novels, I think Heather touched on an important aspect here.

I’m still adjusting to this whole audiobook business, and I’m wondering if I would have felt different if I’d read it in print. ?

A story with good possibilities, but just could have been executed better. It was rather slow and predictable, but I will give kudos for making a thriller with a main character that was deaf. That could not have been easy to write.
