About this audiobook

Have you met The People at Number 9?Sara and Neil have new neighbours in their street. Glamorous and chaotic, Gav and Lou make Sara’s life seem dull. As the two couples become friends, sharing suppers, red wine and childcare, it seems a perfect couples-match. But the more Sara sees of Gav and Lou, the more she longs to change her own life. But those changes will come at a price.
Praise for The People at Number 9:
‘Cleverly maintains suspense … a compelling and readable tale of our times’ Daily Mail
‘An exciting, dark novel about friendship; brutally truthful and raw’ Adele Parks
‘This was clever, relentless and utterly recognisable. I absolutely loved it!’ Katie Fforde
‘Held me in its vice-like grip from first page to last. It's a fascinating analysis of an unhealthy friendship based on insecurity and delusion, and the characters are so vividly drawn that I sympathised with them and despaired of them in equal measure’ Sophie Hannah
‘Excruciating yet unputdownable, this is domestic noir at its most gripping’ Woman & Home
'A cautionary tale of what happens when you get caught up with the in-crowd … The characters and the games they play are instantly recognisable to anyone who has stood at the school gates and felt slightly out of place. I gulped it down quicker than a dirty Martini' Veronica Henry
‘Beady insights into female friendship. Irresistible, excruciating and unputdownable’ Fanny Blake
‘Incisively witty, painfully true … draws the reader in with the voyeuristic joy of gossiping about our friends and neighbours, with a shocking sting in the tail to catch us all out’ Samantha King
‘I LOVED it. Such an unsettling read, with a whole grass-is-greener vibe that makes it really quite creepy … Perfect reading for a cold, dark night!’ Lisa Hall

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My husband and I enjoyed listening to it together. A very interesting view on suburban life.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I think the book was pretty well written, in that it fleshed out the majority of the characters. It was clear and I kept coming back to see how the story would end. The reason that I gave it 2 stars is that it really never went anywhere. It was a very dry story overall. I was always hoping for that thing and it just never came.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5SO good! I couldn’t stop listening to this!! The voice artist was fantastic as well! So talented!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5There was no discernable plot. No idea what this book was about. Drivel
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well I thought this book was a bit strange.I enjoyed it but kept waiting for something to happen. Like maybe they were going to scam Sara and Niel as 5hey already lent the we m 8,000. Perhaps Sara and had an affair. Or Sara got something bad happen as she treated Carol and friends badly. Really nothing much happened. The main point seemed to be art
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The reader was fantastic so I was happy listening to it, but the book had very lit plot and was rather boring and a bit self-indulgent.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5New bohemian, artistic family move next door and captivate Mr and especially Mrs normal. Story was rambling in parts, ludicrous in others (who gives their “friends” 8 grand at the drop of a hat, must have paid for the never ending supply of weed and wine they had, despite never seeming to do any paid work, Also, who yanks their children out of school to teach them at home even though they have no teaching qualification or experience without even a sniff of a visit from social services? ), and boringly obvious overall, never reaching any satisfactory conclusions. Characters were cliched and all thoroughly unlikeable. The ending was empty, unsatisfactory as if the author got as bored writing it as I was listening to it.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was, in a nutshell, a book with very few interesting plot points and was basically about a family with poor boundaries. Pass.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5There wasn’t much of a plot and then it seemed to end abruptly.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great characters, interesting commentary on suburban life..engrossing from the start
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Dreadful. Tedious, repetitive and very limited in plot or engaging characters
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I could not wait to be finished with this book. Neighbors obsessed with new artist neighbors, being taken advantage of, abandoning other friendships, neglecting their children. I didn’t like any of the characters!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I hated everyone in this novel except for Carol.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This human drama set in a London suburb is as riveting as a crime novel. Excellent escapism without being lowbrow.
