The first audiobook by an author i hadnt heard of that I listened to- & wow what a ride!
Being autistic I have many things that I don't veer away from, & authors that I know have always been one of them. But this book opened me up to the new experience of dipping my toes into unknown territory book wise & I will be forever thankful.
I'm about three(?) Yrs late reviewing this book & I have read several more of Alice's works & yet again all I can say is:
    Twists, twisted, twisty!
Turns!!! More twists & simply .... the title!
Read this. You will not be disappointed.

Too many words. Every time I was about to give up because I was bored a new twist would pop up. Initially kept me going but it just dragged on and on. Too many twists and turns to keep track of.

Amber is in a coma and doesn't remember what happened. The story switches back and forth between NOW and THEN. The book captures you from the beginning and you hear the narrative from Amber but you don't know what or who to believe. Many twists later, you learn what happened. The ending slaps you in the face and leaves you speechless. Very cleverly written and it will leave you wondering what Alice Feeney will write about next. Don't miss this one!

If there was a competition for the most twists and turns packed into a suspense story, this book would win. It was a real dog's dinner of lies, too many to keep my interest. And in the end I didn't care what happened to the unreliable narrator. The multiple timeline formula was annoying too, a good writer should be able to tell a complex story without jumping back and forward in time in time every few pages.

The book is beautiful. The plot is twisted. The characters are something else ?. Overall, great book and great narrator as well.

Loved the twist and turns, has a good ending but it left some things unanswered, still a really good story

A little boring at first and felt as if it was a narrative of someone very insecure with OCD. But it did turn around somewhere in the middle and kept me curious about what was going on. The flow of the story keeps breaking as it switches within 3 time frames and gets a bit annoying at times. The end seems to be left open as if there might be a sequel along the lines. A good read none the less.

I listened to the whole book within less than a day. It's very addictive in my opinion. The very end left me speechless, and was kind of a 'what the fuck' moment, and the title alone leaves you questioning the whole book and every statement throughout, which I personally liked, because it kept me interested and engaged. I must admit some aspects of the very end were a bit confusing to me, due to the same thing I mentioned as a positive throughout the rest of it. There are quite a few twists, and I love that. A part of me is a bit unsatisfied due to the lack of full closure, but I won't fault the book for that, since an open ending and the favorability of it is very subjective, and at the same time, it keeps me theorising and thinking of the book even after I've finished it, so maybe that's a good thing. The characters are unlikeable, but I actually enjoyed that fact, because it makes the whole story very interesting, and it makes certain twists in the end really make sense. All in all, 4 stars.

In this psychological suspense novel you get the ultimate in unreliable narrators in Amber Reynolds. Amber is in a coma and unable to move or communicate after a car crash. The book covers, and alternates among, three time periods: Amber's childhood recollections, the weeks immediately preceding the accident and her current hospital stay. In 1992 Amber was 10 or 11 and kept a diary, mostly about her relationships with her parents and her best friend Taylor. Before the accident Amber was dealing with the impending loss of her job as a radio presenter and the reappearance of an old boyfriend. Now Amber is locked in her own mind trying to remember what happened to her and why as she listens to the conversations of her husband Paul and sister Claire. You should believe nothing. The plot is not just about lying, but also insanity, stalking, workplace sabotage, rape, murder and various nasty acts, none of which should be disclosed in a book review. I almost stopped reading several times because the plot wasn't progressing very quickly and I just wanted to get to the "big twist" and get it over with. However, it did keep me reasonably engaged, particularly in the last 25%, and it turns out that there are quite a few twists. I expect that this book will be popular. That being said, I hope that the torrent of psychological thrillers tapers off soon because it seems like they are all just variations on the same plot. This is the second book I've read this week in which a wife rushes off into the night, has a car crash and winds up in the hospital with temporary amnesia. They both also had two women pitted against each other. It's my third book in a month in which someone is creepily trespassing into a home. In two of those books it's while the homeowners are present. The blurbs keep making me hope that there will be something different but I am usually disappointed. Maybe I just read too much.I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

My top three thoughts about 'Sometimes I Lie':
    1. Without even looking at the blurb I dove right into judging the book by the cover. Coincidentally, I have somehow managed to read two books back to back this week about coma patients who are still 'awake'; 'Unbury Carol' and 'Sometimes I Lie'. Thankfully the copy of the latter that I read didn't have the sad looking cover that's on Goodreads. Vague taglines that try too hard to be intriguing but instead come across as pathetic just don't cut it for me. "I'm in a coma my husband doesn't love me anymore."
    2. The book itself was a good light read. I was homesick and tucked into bed on a rainy day when I finished this book. Expecting next to nothing from it, I was pleasantly surprised with all the twists and turns in this Thriller.
    3. The ending however was a let down for me. The forced twist at the end seemed very unnecessary. Nothing ruins an entertaining read for me more than a calculated people pleasing 'shock ending'. All in all, I would still say the book is a good, light, one time read.

I read this book in two sittings; it really pulls you in and the chapters are so short, it’s easy to say “just one more”. The last twist was a little standard and the narrator was unreliable, surprise surprise. I’m getting tired of unreliable narrators and very similar twists - this reminded me a lot of The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks, but I think this one came first. I can’t say it’s awful because I was pulled in and had to finish, but it wasn’t as “shocking” and “twisted” as I would have hoped, and it’s very standard if you read a lot in this genre.

The point of view from the main character experiencing a coma was chilling but as the story went on it started to get on my nerves. The whole plot is shaky and the MC is a spineless idiot but then keeps contradicting herself with her actions which creates a bit of a "oh no an unreliable narrator" but it was more annoying than cool

WOW - twists galore at the end! My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:1. I’m in a coma.2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore.3. Sometimes I lie. How much does Amber have to endure?! I really loved the whole ending and reading the twists! Alternating between her coma present, the week before her accident, and entries from childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

    Did not expect the twist.

This particular Feeney book was a disappointment after reading Daisy Darker and Rock, Paper, Scissors. It was incredibly depressing - the co-dependent neuroses were too much, and the ending certainly left something to be desired.

The story really only deserves two stars, but I'll give it another star for the surprise ending. Very clever.
My favorite part is where the protagonist's boss, who hosts a radio show and also is the face of a children's charity, has an interview for TV, promoting fundraising for the charity. The protagonist, the hosts's personal assistant, who is a former coworker of the interviewer, conveniently finds an opportunity of helping him with the microphone, meanwhile he's checking something with the satellite van. The host of the radio show, who, unbeknownst to the reader, plays a key part in events in the protagonist's life, believes that the mike is turned off, and vents her real feelings about the vulnerable children she's meant to represent, which spells her downfall, and brings to fruition the coveted and carefully planned revenge of the protagonist:
" 'I'll just double check that you're done,' I say, popping the headset back on. I can hear the program loud and clear. 'it must be rewarding though, raising awareness of vulnerable children?' we've had this discussion so many times before, I know her thoughts on the matter.
'vulnerable, my arse. Most of these kids are little shits and it's the parents I blame. There should be some sort of IQ test to identify people who are too stupid to have children and then those with low scores should be sterilized. Too many stupid people populating the land with their mentally retarded offspring is a big part of what's wrong with this country.'
I see John step out of the sat truck parked just down the street, frantically waving his hands above his head like he's trying to land a plane in a hurry.
'I think you can definitely go now,' I say."

A clever twist to this book that I did not see coming. I did guess the driver, but it was WAY more complicated than I thought. There is definitely a red herring here, and I'm not really sure it was needed.Hard to discuss this at all without spoiling, because it is all so twisted!

Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney is a 2017 HQ publication. Amber awakens to the horrible discovery that she is in a coma. That doesn’t prevent her from hearing people around her, or from telling the reader about the events leading up to her current predicament. Meanwhile, her family, and other visitors arrive, speaking as though Amber has no idea what is going on around her...Except for one visitor, a voice she doesn’t instantly remember or recognize, who speaks directly to her and has made it quite clear they intend to see that she never wakes up…This is another book that has languished on my list for years. It got stellar ratings, but for some reason it just kept sliding down my list. Weeding through all those psychological thrillers I had stacked up over the past few years, and trying to decide which ones I should delete, and which ones to keep, has not always been an easy decision- but this one was so well received, and appeared to be somewhat controversial- so I had to see what the fuss was about. At first, I really couldn’t see why everyone was so impressed with this book. It reads just like a hundred other psychological thrillers. Granted, there is some originality, but the same plot devices were present and accounted for… Until… A very unusual twist knocked me for a loop! Ha! Oh, my goodness- now I see why some folks have read this book multiple times. I’m mighty tempted to do that myself- but I don’t have the time. Still, I would love to go back over everything again to be sure I grasped the author’s intentions. Reading it in hindsight, looking for hints and seeing everything through a different lens would be fun. I’m sure there's an array of theories, and this book would make a great book club read- for other no other reason than to toss around various assumptions and interpretations. I had to really think it through for a while before I finally decided I had it all straight and I’m positive others will have drawn a different conclusion. There is one thing, though, I know with an absolute certainty- I will definitely read this author again! Overall, I got a little more than I had bargained for! Tackling my TBR is turning out to be great fun!!

While this story was somewhat difficult to follow at times as it jumps around in three different time periods... It was amazing. Total page turner!
