      The story was great. There was enough twists to make you think. I also like that fact that the heroine was a little flawed and had real life problems. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

      The dialogue was cheesy, and the focus was on that and describing the minutiae of her life instead of focusing on developing the mystery. So embarrassing.

      I enjoyed the story, and I will be reading book number two in the series. This had some slow parts, but I noticed that happens sometimes in books that are first in a series. I found the characters likable, and I want to see what happens to them next.

      Very cliche but a lot of fun! Also (SPOILER MAJOR SPOILER) if you were in this for the best friendship it's adorable, but if you wanted the two main character to get together this will be disappointing. It's like all the fluffy fun (and a murder) before a first kiss, but then there is no kiss.

      Cute story. Completely unthreatening, i’d call it an “old lady mystery.” No sex, shockingly little violence for murder, NOT a thriller by any means. You could buy this for your grandmother and be sure nothing in it would offend her.

      When her mother dies suddenly, Francesca gives up her New York life and returns to where she grew up, Cape Bay, and takes over as the third generation owner of the family coffee shop. She's grieving for her mother but re-adjusting well to her childhood home, but just a few weeks into her return she comes across a neighbor who has died on his back porch, a cup of poisoned coffee at his side. She had known the man her whole life, and his death brings Matty, Fran's childhood friend who she hasn't seen in years. Together they investigate who killed Matty's father.A light, quick read with lots of coffee talk, a Cape Cod atmosphere and some potential for romance. The reader would never guess the killer because it introduces the character only as the mystery is solved.

      This book, the first in the new Cape Bay Cafe mystery series by Harper Lin, was a perfect blend of lighthearted mystery, budding romance and sweet treats. The descriptions of the cafe were so good that I could smell the coffee and almost taste the chocolate goodness of the cupcakes.

      Culinary mystery series abound and Harper Lin's books rank among the top in the genre. The recipes included at the end, which has become de rigueur for these types of books, are ones that seem simple enough to follow and delectable enough to actually try.

      The plot had just enough mystery to be thoroughly entertaining and the main characters were great, very likable and fun, without becoming too saccharine or annoying. These are people that I'm looking forward to reading about in future books.

      I received this book free from the author through a giveaway on Facebook. This is the first I've read by her, but definitely not the last! For a first book in a series, it was really good. It was a little slow in the beginning, but soon picked up the pace. I enjoyed the characters and look forward to reading the next in the series.

      This book was awesome! I found myself wanting to pick it up and read while working. I lost several hours of sleep to this book. It was a easy read, with likeable and relatable characters. I found myself sleuthing along with Franny, trying to figure out whodonit. Harper Lin possesses a wonderful ability to weave intrigue and humor together into this fantastic cozy mystery. She is my new favorite author in this genre. Well done! A must read for anyone who is looking for a fun murder mystery.

My initial response is that it is a real good read.I am not a huge fan of what is called I believe a cozy mystery…where the main character gets involved in solving a murder. In the case of this book by Harper Lin I must admit I had fun reading it.Franny (full name Fransesca) has recently lost her mother and has returned to the small town of Cape Bay to run a cute little coffee shop that used to belong to her grandparents and then her mother. Shortly after her return she stumbles across the dead body of her neighbor Mr. Cardosi. Mr. Cardosi’s grandson, Matty (to Franny – full name Matthew) enters the scene and renews his old friendship with Franny. Initially the death is thought to be of natural causes but it is soon determined to be murder. Franny is determined to solve the murder and enlists Matty to help her in her search for the murderer.As always in these types of novels I wonder why the heroine would even attempt to solve a murder. What background does she have to even qualify to do this. But the authors of these types of books, as Harper Lin proves, manage to make it all work out.I am glad I read this story and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I must find out who sent the roses.10.12.15

      Good set up for the Cape Bay Café Mysteries as Francesca has returned to her hometown after the death of her mother. While walking home from the café she finds Mr. Cardosi dead on his back porch. She begins to investigate and finds out she's not as good a detective as she thinks she is.I enjoyed this book. I liked the first person point-of-view. The mystery was good. I did not figure it out until the end when it was practically spelt out for me. I had the who but the why did not come to me. The characters were interesting. I kept hoping the murderer was not one of the regulars. I liked the slow way Francesca and Matteo are getting together as adults since they were childhood friends.This is going to be a good series. I look forward to reading book 2
