      An amazing book. The history really made me think about mankind.

      Really enjoyed this title. The narration was also very well done. It’s so nice to read/listen to stories such as this, with heart and sans all the unnecessary crude language and sexual content. I listened for long periods at a time, only stopping for work and sleep. That’s a sure sign of an enjoyable book. Bravo!

      "Say Goodbye for Now" was sitting on a five-star rating until the novel's third part. It felt too rushed - eight years flew by over a few chapters and the ending was flat and disappointing. However, the rest of the novel was fabulous.I loved young Pete and Justin, Dr Lucy, Clavin and Prince, the injured wolf Pete found, and the relationship that was built between them all. I hated how Calvin and Justin were treated simply because of the colour of their skin and the way Pete's father treated him because of his friendship with Justin was disgusting. For me, Pete was the hero of this novel. He was a caring, kind, loyal young man, and wise beyond his years. His story was heartbreaking.Although overly sentimental, I did enjoy reading "Say Goodbye for Now". It dealt with some serious issues but ultimately it was a story of love, hope, caring and family. A sweet read.

      I just wish these books would go on and on....I love Hyde's novels and really hate to finish one! She has such a wonderful and detailed presentation of all of her main characters. I am thrilled with how many she has written and how she is continuing----I am looking for her newest one right now.

      Wonderful book!!

      Catherine Ryan Hyde is an excellent writer. I could feel the emotions all throughout the story. Love does not see color. Calvin and Lucy have a unique bond. Pete and Justin also develop a special friendship that grows stronger during the rough times. Beautiful story. So glad I read it.

      I enjoyed this book. I really thought that this was going to be a book about a dog based on the cover. I obviously did not read the book's summary prior to starting this audiobook. There is a dog in the book but that dog is really not the main focus of the story. This was a story about race, love, and what really makes up a family. I am so glad that I stumbled upon this wonderful story.This book is told from two points of view. Dr. Lucy takes care of animals and the occasional human that comes to her for help. She lives a rather isolated life on her ranch and likes it that way. Pete is a 12 year old boy that happens upon a wounded dog laying on the side of the road and feels compelled to help. Pete finds help for the dog in Dr. Lucy and so much more.The characters in this book were wonderful and they all had their own complex story to tell. Dr. Lucy has been through a lot. The book is set in a time where people do not want to take a female doctor seriously so Lucy uses her skills to help animals. Pete has had a lot to deal with in his short life. Despite the way he is treated, he is still such a good kid and works hard to do what he feels is right. Justin and his father, Calvin, are new in town. The town has not been welcoming to them and has treated them poorly because of the fact that they are African American.I loved the way that the relationships between these characters developed. If the rest of the world would simply go away, these four people would be very happy. Pete and Justin have so much in common and I loved watching their friendship progress. Lucy goes from being alone most of the time to have a real connection to Pete, Justin, and Calvin. Everything about their interactions seemed natural and it made me very angry that the local citizens did everything they could to not allow any of the connections to exist.The narrators both did a great job with this story. I really do enjoy it when audiobooks utilize multiple narrators. Nick Podehl did a great job with Pete's point of view which was no small task since the character is a 12 year old boy. Teri Schnaubelt voices the parts that were told from Dr. Lucy's point of view. Both narrators were able to bring a lot of emotion into the story telling and were very pleasant to listen to for long periods of time. I would not hesitate to listen to either of these narrators again in the future.I would recommend this book to others. This was a very well told story that really care about the characters. This was the first book by Catherine Ryan Hyde that I have read but I wouldn't hesitate to read more of her work in the future.

      This book gave me all the feels. It may take a few moments to get them back in check.

      Set in the late 1950s 4 people who aren't supposed to be seen together try to form a close knit family and friendships. Driven away by racism, hatred and violence they will have to work their hardest to try to make things work.

      If you've not read this book. Get your hands on It ASAP.

A beautifully written story about four lonely people who find one another in a small Texas town in the late 1950's. Catherine Hyde developes strong characters that as we read their story we come to love. This story tackles the subject of racial prejudice and how four people come together to create an untraditional family. This book comes at a time when we all could find our faith restored in the human race. This was the first novel I have read from this author but it won't be my last. It was a great book!

This is an amazing book about parental abuse, prejudice, and forbidden interracial relationships in America in the 50s and 60s. In many areas of America a relationship between an African American and a Caucasian individual of opposite sex was against the law and forbidden. So much hate and so much violence over the color of ones skin that even friendship is forbidden. Pete, an abused adolescent, is a very kind and caring individual as are his very close friends, Dr. Lucy, Calvin, and Justin. This is a story about courage, kindness, love, hope, and friendship. This is a well-written book with good character development and an amazing plot. I look forward to reading more from Catherine Ryan Hyde. This is a keeper and well worth the read.

      Dr. Lucy Armstrong lives alone and out of the way on her Texas ranch. She is a licensed doctor, which is rare in 1959, but has long since chosen not to practice in the typical manner. Instead, she takes in animals that have been injured and abandoned. Pete Solomon is a 12 year old boy with a large heart, so when he sees an abandoned, broken dog on the side of the road, he knows he has to help him. When the regular vet refuses to look at the wolf-dog, Pete finds his way to Dr. Lucy. On the long walk with a half-wild, hurt, wolf-dog, Pete runs into Justin. Justin is new in town and the two boys click. Justin is also black, which does not sit well with Pete's abusive father or some other folks in town. When the boys show up at Dr. Lucy's, she finds herself with not only one more animal to care for, but two boys as well. When Dr. Lucy meets Justin's father, Calvin, Dr. Lucy's heart melts. However, the town is not ready for a white woman to be kind to a black man and miscegenation laws are still in place. When the town turns violent against the new little family, Dr. Lucy and Peter must say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. Catherine Ryan Hyde always delivers so much more in a story than I could ever imagine. I originally wanted to read this story because of the wolf-dog hybrid. Prince is definitely an important part of the story as the force that brought everyone together, but there is so much more offered. Elements of historical fiction, race relations, family, friendship, hope and love are all tied together in this beautiful and unexpected story. Each of the characters is very well developed and amazing in their own way. Pete stole my heart from the very beginning with his compassion and unwavering sense of right vs. wrong. I love how he never gave up on Prince and what he later found in return. Justin and Calvin were the perfect father and son pair; they showed perseverance and grace under pressure. The real transformation is of course with Dr. Lucy. From the beginning I knew her hardness was a facade, but I still enjoyed watching it melt away with the addition of Pete, Justin and Calvin to her newly formed family.This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

      This is the third book I have read from this author. By far, this is the best book I have read from the author. Although, every book that I have read by this author is a good read. Ms. Ryan Hyde brings so much life to her stories and characters. She takes the reading game up a few levels. Instantly, I connected with everyone in this book from Lucy, Pete, Calvin, Justin and Prince. The way they were all brought together and bonded was great. I actually felt sorry that the rest of the town could not find happiness or friendship like these 5 did. Yes, I count Prince as one of the group. I like how the story progressed in time with everyone growing older and yet still staying in each other's lives. I almost read this book in one sitting. If it was not for the one small factor of sleep, I would have read it all. Yet, when I put the book down I only had a third of the way left which I promptly finished as soon as I could. I look forward to reading the next book by this author. As the title of this book says "I am only saying goodbye for now".
