I loved Big Lies in a Small Town and on the strength of that, got this book. The characters in this book are not sympathetic, the plot unfolds like a twisty soap opera with drama points seemingly randomly deposited. Maybe they resolve as the book goes on; I haven’t finished it yet and don’t know that I will. The reader is fine, but the story is an effort to listen to. The child welfare subplot is entirely unbelievable. There is excessive angst among the supposedly grown-up adults as to who should sleep with whom, and it seems so far superficial and random. I hope it improves.
