      This book had a couple of twists I did not see coming. All in all very good, but a bit sad.

      I’m not normally a fan of paranormal cozy fiction, but when I read the first book in this series, Pies and Prejudice, I thought there wasn’t TOO much woo woo, so I gave #2 a try. In Peach Pies and Alibis, readers are hip-deep in woo woo and it appears that that’s going to be the plan for future books in this series.I don’t mind a little enchantment, but to get this deep into witchcraft isn’t my cup of tea. Recipes look great and there’s one I’m going to try.

      Digital audio read by C.S.E. CooneyBook two in the Charmed Pie Shoppe series, starring Ella Mae LeFaye, who discovered her magical powers in book one of the series. In this outing she’s been hired to cater a wedding, and she’s experimenting with her new craft, trying to understand how she got these powers and getting tutored by her mother, her aunts and her protector and pie-shop partner, Reba. She’s also warming up to handsome Hugh Dylan. But when a prominent citizen dies and a wedding guest gets ill, her business is suspect, and she feels she must investigate.I like this installment much better than the first or third book. I was more entertained by the cozy mystery aspect, and as Ella Mae is learning about her family’s magical history, this reader is beginning to understand some of the relationships. I did find out how it came to be that her mother becomes a tree (a major plot point in book 3), and at least that subsequent book makes more sense to me now…though I’m not changing my rating of it. I guess this series really should be read in order.It’s not great literature, but I did find it entertaining (if predictable). The text version includes some interesting recipes for various pies – both savory and dessert. C.S.E. Cooney does a reasonable job on the audio. I think her accents are a bit over-the-top (especially for Reba), but she sets a good pace and has clear diction.

      Adams did a wonderful job on this story but I wasn't as happy with it as I was with the first one. The "magic" in this book is a bit darker and the happenings are harsher than in the first book. Ella Mae gets involved in the magical world that was hidden from her, which explains the way she can bake pies and infuse them with her feelings, and why her mother grows such amazing flowers and her aunts all have unique "ways" with different things. Ella Mae is drawn to a hidden area and there she is Awakened. What happens afterward is where it starts getting very dark. I do not want to discourage anyone from reading this story because it is very powerful, but it has an edge that is pretty sharp in places.For once I did figure out who the villain was but had not idea why until Adams wanted me to know.I'm looking forward to the next in the series because I do enjoy the characters and the setting.

      Excellent read. I love these characters - all of them. Even the "nemesis" seems somewhat realistic - although she needs to be slapped. The mystery in this book very much centers around Ella Mae's "world" and the newfound magic she has. A lot is revealed in this book, which I appreciate - I hate when an author strings out the 'reveals' over too many books. I guessed the bad guy - not right away, but early on. It didn't diminish the story for me at all though.

      It will be interesting to see where the author takes the next book - from the ending of this book, it seems it's very possible future books could wing off into the overly fantastic. But I look forward to finding out.

      The Charmed Pie Shoppe series is definitely - absolutely charming! Ella Mae has finally been awakened to her substantial powers and just at the right time. The Lady of the Ash has to be replaced at the Harvest festival but all of the candidates seem to be dying from food poisoning.Purchasing a used vehicle from the Artisan Cheese makers in the area, Ella Mae is introduced to a bride ad groom and drafted to cater their small wedding as well as finding a young woman to work in her pie shoppe.The harvest festival yields numerous surprises and a bit of unforeseen heartache.Definitely looking forward to the next installment!

      Peach Pies And Alibis is the second book in the A Charmed Pie Shoppe series by NEW YORK TIMES Best Selling Author, Ellery Adams.

      Ellery Adams does such a wonderful, once again, of telling a great story and writes in a manner that, for this reader, makes me feel that I am right there, every step of the way. I felt I was there as Ella Mae was walking through her mother's rose garden, could hear her Aunt Verena's hearty laugh and see her Aunt Dee's metal sculptures and hear the classical music in her Aunt Sissy's school. And for the dog lovers, Ellery has hit the nail on the head about the antics of Charleston Chew, Chewy to his friends, Ella Mae's lovable Jack Russell terrier.

      Ella Mae has recently moved back to Havenwood, after a disastrous marriage, and has opened up the Charmed Pie Shop. Ella Mae knows that the pies she bakes are in some way "charmed", in this books she learns just how she has this power and the "magic" that her mother and her aunts have.

      One Sunday morning as Ella Mae is reading the newspaper she sees an ad for a retired mail Jeep for sale at Sherman Artisan Cheese. She needs transportation and this would also get her into a position to offer a catering service. She takes a pie with her to sweeten the deal, so to speak, to test drive the Jeep. While there, looking at the variety of cheeses, she meets Rudy and Candis, who are planning on having the Sherman's provide a selection of cheese for their wedding and Ella Mae agrees to cater the desserts for their wedding reception. Not only did she find a Jeep that will work for her, she also met a young lady that she hires to work in the shop.

      Recently, Melissa Carisle, who provides the best honey, is found in her home dead. It appears she died of natural causes, but Ella Mae and her aunt Dee aren't so sure. Then when Freda, Candis' stepmother, becomes violently ill at Ruday and Candis wedding, it's time for Ella Mae and Reba to get down to work investigating what is going on in Havenwood.

      Of course Loralyn is around to add grief to Ella Mae's life, that she does only so well. Hugh is around too, to stir the love interests of Ella Mae, but will the magic surface for them.

      Highly recommended. Settle back and enjoy the "magic" Havenwood. Recipes included.

I was really surprised at how much Ellery managed to get down without it seeming like too much. I thought the mystery suffered a little bit but I think it sets up the rest of the series pretty darn well. This entry was a bit more emotional too! I will admit I teared up a bit in parts. So keep your hankies near by!Character Thoughts: I adore the Charmed Pie Shoppe characters. They are all so very rich and different. Even the cadence in which Ellery writes their speech is different and I have to say I adore it. I can't pick a favorite and wouldn't want too. You will feel like part of this community and want to have tea with the main core characters. However, since they really can't "share" the stories, it is probably better that we get to eavesdrop!Final Thoughts: Freaking Jan before the next one comes out. I am not even doing the math on how long that is!

      I am a fan of books by authors like Sarah Addison Allen, so when this series has decided to plant itself firmly in magical realism territory, I am there. Ella Mae's Charmed Pie Shoppe continues to do brisk business. After meeting a soon to be married young couple on a budget, she agrees to make some desserts for their wedding. The murders in this story dovetail into the larger picture of Ella Mae's awakening to her powers and how it turns out there are many surprise members of her kind in Havenwood.

      I've been eagerly anticipating the next book in the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery series, and, wow, PEACH PIES AND ALIBIS was even better than the first. I devoured it!Ella Mae LeFaye is settling into her new life in Havenwood, Georgia. The townspeople love the scrumptious pies she makes in her shop. Little do they know, Ella Mae has the ability to "charm" her pies to influence the emotions of others, a gift she just recently discovered.I love how this book delved deeper into Ella Mae's magical background, and how her magic connects her to other characters. Some surprising secrets were revealed, and no one was more shocked than Ella Mae herself. She had a few "Ah, so that's why..." moments.Along with Ella Mae's journey of self-discovery and her first big job catering a wedding, there's a tricky mystery weaved into the story - the death of one person and the suspicious illness of another. Ella Mae must find out if the two incidents are related, and if so, why? She doesn't realize just how much they will impact her own life. The ending was an emotional one. *sniffle*PEACH PIES AND ALIBIS is an imaginative cozy mystery that I greatly enjoyed. Once again, Ella Mae's quirky aunts and family caretaker Reba stand out as strong secondary characters. Chewy the dog was a charmer, too!
