About this audiobook
Fleeing from a vengeful king has sent the former NPCs across Solium's borders, into the kingdom of Alcatham. As wanted fugitives, they head to the small farming village of Briarwillow, hoping to blend in, lay low, and avoid trouble at all costs.
Unfortunately, Briarwillow has problems all its own, and its troubles quickly become theirs. If they hope to survive long enough to escape, they'll have to tackle an all-but-forgotten mystery buried at the town's border, as well as seek the wisdom of a mysterious group of mages. With time, magic, and at least one god against them, it will take everything they've got to save Briarwillow, and themselves.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I got curious with NPC and was immediately hooked with the first book in the series but this second book takes the story into a more interesting twist and turn. I love it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The seccond part of a brilliant story - well read and well spoken too
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Timiscore and Mr. Peppers???... My heart was not prepared for such amazing last minute characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this series!!! Can't say enough about it. Now I've gotten my little brother hooked too ;)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a really fun, light read. The characters have begun to shine more, and while the plot was familiar, Hayes added in some unique elements to the classic adventurer-party story to still be compelling. I will be reading the third book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of this series, so I return to join with Thistle, Gabriel, Eric, and Grumph. It's fun to return to this world, as it does feel like a unique concept. Even as they work in the Table Geeks(tm) as parts of the book. It's a rarely used problem in an actual tabletop game, but works well in a novel. The paladin's fallacy of must fight evil wherever it occurs. So our hearty NPCs are in a town, and unable to leave. While the PCs are elsewhere and possibly going to head toward the NPCs. Could be ... interesting. :)I'm not sure how much I trust a few characters that have been introduced. Especially that trader. Gabby broke her axe. well without care, that was expected. and that untrustworthy character I spoke of? Yeah, she twists about the shopping trip. I'd forgotten about Timiscor when I started on this book series again. Wonder what happens when the two meet... Doesn't happen this book. Drat Well, there's an unexpected twist. Grumble had a previous paladin who stole from a dark god. That explains some of the earlier parts of the book. This one could have suffered from the middle book syndrome that many series suffer. It didn't seem it had a let down so I can definitely say this is a good series. Don't want it to end, but I'm only seeing three books to the series so far...
