    Everyone's got their hands full in Oyster Bay, North Carolina.       The decidedly un-religious Olivia Limoges visits a local church, she becomes a witness to the opening of a recently found time-capsule. When the box is opened, Olivia notices fear on the faces of the pastor and the head of the Oyster Bay Historical Society, Bellamy Drummond. Olivia can’t figure out why they’d be frantic. Shortly after that, Olivia (who’s beachcombing) with her niece and nephew) comes upon the body of Ruth Holcomb, a young woman who is best friends with Bellamy Drummond’s shy and browbeaten daughter Stella. Olivia knows how devastated Stella will be when she learns her friend is dead and Olivia feels she needs to protect her. As has happened before in these “Books by the Bay” mysteries, the key to solving current crimes requires digging into secrets from long ago. So that’s what Olivia and her pals from a writers’ group – including the local police chief, Sawyer Rawlings, who just happens to be Olivia’s fiancé. And about the wedding, Olivia has been delaying setting a date. Rawlings lightly nudges her into making a decision. This series, with its quirky characters and intricate plots, is a favorite of mine. I’ve now read all of them and will have to wait until #8 comes out in May 2017.

      Olivia has gone to the church with her friend Michel for the final arrangements related to Michel's wedding in a few days. While there, workmen at the church uncover a time capsule buried in the sacristy wall. Olivia notices that there is a copper box about the size of a pair of shoes, however, when several days later she is told what the historical society discovered in the time capsule, there is no mention of the copper box. Knowing that the pastor was alarmed at the time of the discovery, Olivia is concerned at the disappearance. At the same time, Olivia has to deal with her young niece's finding of a young woman on the beach who apparently was murdered. Determining that the young victim was a friend of the Historical society leader, Olivia wonders if there is a connection. More and more clues are uncovered but who do they point to?Love the mystery created by the time capsule being unburied. The characters and their interactions kept things interesting and the intricate plot fascinating.Looking forward to the next one!

      Lethal Letters examines the relationship between rich and poor in both historical and contemporary North Carolina. A time capsule leads to old secrets that the Drummonds, the local first family, would prefer to keep secret. Intrigue spans one hundred years as Olivia and the team work to solve two mysterious and tragic deaths. It is part of the Books By the Bay Mystery series written by Ellery Adams. The series is set in coastal North Carolina and most of the books draw on local and state history and lure for the plots. Well worth the read although I listened to all but the last one. I liked the narrator a she captured the personalities of the main characters nicely.

      A series that has been picking up steam with each new book. Lethal Letters is #6 and the characters have found their groove. The MC, Olivia started out regarded as an ice queen by both her neighbors and the readers, but she's become friendlier and more human; she has a solid group of friends around her and family members she's only just discovered. A time capsule discovered in a church wall is the impetus behind the mystery and the murder in Lethal Letters. The result of exposing buried secrets is tragic and a bit heartbreaking. The author goes a bit - just a bit - darker with the motivations here than you'd find in your average cozy of late and the result was a better-than-average read. I might have gone 4.5 stars but Olivia's introspections run a little close to platitudes to feel authentic; I often felt the author was just trying too hard to show Olivia was thinking deep thoughts. The murder plot isn't cleverly plotted or twisty but I don't think it was meant to be; there's a question as to whether or not a crime was even committed, but if it was a crime there was really only a few suspects. More than a murder mystery, the plot was about long buried secrets and the lengths people will go to keep them from being exposed.

      Terrific series that just keeps getting better. This time Olivia is getting ready for her Executive Chef's nuptials, a soiree for the local historical society and her own wedding. While out with her niece and nephew on the beach she and her niece find a young woman, dead who Olivia later finds has been murdered. Meanwhile Lauren is on the track of a drug-ring. This story was actually a little sad.

      This is one of best "Books By The Bay" mysteries. While on an outing with her niece, nephew and fiance, Olivia and Caitlin find young woman who appears to be sleeping. Caitlin worries about the girl but Olivia realizes that she is dead and is determined to protect the young girl. What follows is a roller coaster of suspects, possible motives, with some drug running and what seems to be the determination to wipe out an entire family.There are also plenty of involvement with the writers club, the police and the library.I need to get Adams other series caught up, she writes well and I enjoy spending time in her worlds.

      This is, without doubt, my favorite cozy mystery series, and I always look forward to each new book with great anticipation. Lethal Letters does not disappoint, even though it does have an "end of series" feel to it. Ellery Adams has created an incredible cast of characters that continue to grow and change with each book, and the setting is perfect. Whenever Olivia and her wonderful dog Captain Haviland walk the beach looking for treasures, I can feel the sea breeze in my hair and the shift and crunch of sand between my toes. The mysteries are an integral part of each book, weaving the history of the area into the characters' lives. Lethal Letters has everything to do with family-- families that have been broken apart and are slowly mending themselves, new families that have just begun to form, and families that are shattered beyond repair. Olivia herself has spent the course of this series making herself whole by finding family she didn't know existed and by forming close and lasting relationships with the friends she has found. She no longer hesitates to reach out to those who need help. Olivia has always been a giving person, but in the past she usually gave by writing a check. Now she gives of her heart. She's no longer a hermit, and her transformation has been an absolute delight.The family motif continues with the Bayside Book Writers group. All of them are back together here, and it just feels "right." This group has been the icing on the cake of this series, giving real insight into writing and critiquing beginners' novels, and I have to say that I was thrilled with the turn that Olivia's writing takes here.Lethal Letters, like all the other books in this series, has heartbreak and loss, but there is also compassion, love, and growth. These are grown-up "feel good" novels, and I will never get my fill of them.

      Olivia Limoges has her hands full with not only planning her own wedding but attending to the details of her chef's wedding and helping out with the Historical Society’s Secret Garden Party and Candlelit Ball. Still, even with all that going on, Olivia is intrigued by the discovery of a time capsule at a local church. She soon discovers that someone wants something in the time capsule to remain hidden and is willing to kill to make sure that happens.“Lethal Letters” is the nicely done sixth book in Ellery Adams’ Books by the Bay cozy mystery series - a series the gets better with every book. Olivia has really grown on me as a character - in the first book she was a bit cold but as she found friends and love during the series she has grown warmer in each book. In this book in particular we learn more about her childhood - without giving away any plot points I'll just say I love the way Adams handles Olivia's relationship with Charles Wade. I also like the fact that Harris returns in this book and that the Bayside Book Writers play an important part in this book, although I still miss the excerpts from the books the group was writing that appeared in the books at the beginning of the series (I especially liked the little tidbits Adams provided about what goes into publishing a book). As for the mystery aspects – there is more than one mystery in this book and while this isn't quite the “guess with the killer is” kind of book there are some nifty twists and turns that will keep the reader surprised. Finally, I loved the ending of this book. There are some sad moments in the book and the ending was a perfect antidote for those moments and left me smiling.“Lethal Letters” is another great mystery by Ellery Adams.
