I grew up in the 1960s with Nancy Drew and the Bobbsey Twins, etc. I'm 56 now and this book took me right back to summers in my secret tree, reading thrilling but completely safe and happy stories like this. Not sure if I'm the target market, or if it's meant for innocent, sheltered, 9yo girls... i guess it can work for both. I loved the historical details and learned a lot about the Maine & NE coasts during WWII. The story is refreshingly simple and old fashioned... a nice respite from all of the horrors we can read or watch in current culture.

The suspense in who did it and what would happen next made me LUV every character ( except for the "evil" ones ) and made me want to read on!
