The cod is a large, ugly fish that spends its life with its big mouth wide open for food. For centuries, so many cod lived in the Atlantic Ocean they couldn't swim without bumping into each other. They were so plentiful that they became the most important fish in many cultures. Best-selling author Mark Kurlansky brings history to life with this entertaining story of how a single fish changed the world.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have some other books by this author. A good go to author. His style is easy to understand and packed with information.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book actually very short. I’m going to go back and listen again to the timeline at the very end of the book. Excellent information about the wealth that was pulled out of the cod fisheries and the sudden collapse. I would’ve liked a little more historical information about the policy arguments and claims that were made before the fisheries were closed. Sort of wondering what investment opportunities might be available in the areas that were decimated the surely lost population
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A consistently informative book without any irritating filler, well done.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book. I learned so much. If you read Salt, then this makes perfect sense as a follow-up. Great book.
