About this audiobook

In May 1937, a man in his early thirties waits by the lift of a Leningrad apartment block. He waits all through the night, expecting to be taken away to the ‘Big House.' Any celebrity he has known in the previous decade is no use to him now, and few who are taken to ever return.

As much an aptly contemporary reflexion on subduction or residual internal freedom, i.e. personal integrity under state dictatorship (communism), as an ode to a great artist "hearing music" in everyday's sounds and "into" human relationships. Inspiring and enjoyable to listen to.

As a post soviet child all this soviet stuff makes me sick. I didn't like how between the chapters the story was just chopped from one thing to another. I mean it is written okay, but it's nothing to be excited about either. The most exciting part was about the thoughts of the composer.
