About this audiobook

Winter winds off the Atlantic have turned the tourist mecca of Seaside Creek, New Jersey, into a ghost town. Dr. Christina Paxton, however, is growing accustomed to living with ghosts. Recently widowed, the emergency room physician has returned to the shore with her young daughter, house-sitting a sprawling beachside Victorian home. One night, her two-year-old calls her by a name that makes Christina’s blood run cold and sends her thoughts spiraling back thirty years.

Deeply unnerved, and certain someone else is in the house, she flees with her child into the cold night, only to come face-to-face with Chief Harris Bowers, a former classmate with whom Christina has a complicated history. Now divorced, Harris hopes to mend their past, but Christina is wary of being played for a fool again. As threats emerge, Christina and her small family find themselves in grave danger. It seems there is no one she can put her trust in—least of all herself.

This was and alright book. It wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. The premise sounded promising but some of the actions/reactions of characters didn’t really seem appropriate given their descriptions. The story seemed to be paced well and I was able to stay interested. I also liked the characters and thought they seemed interesting and likable.

You certainly felt bad for Christina throughout this book. Unintentionally by returning home she put herself in the middle of madness. The logical person to lean on happens to be the one man she hates and hasn’t forgiven for a past pain he inflicted upon her. Along with trying to find out who is mentally torturing Christina and who is responsible for the break-ins these two also have to resolve old hurts and come to see that maybe there are still feelings between them.

Is it a ghost story? Is it a Thriller? Either way it was likeable enough. Few twists and turns and goings-on to keep you guessing. Just not quite gritty enough for me to be intensely gripped by it. It isn’t the kind of book that I can’t put down but it’s a decent story to pass the time with. I wouldn’t read it again but I would recommend it if you’re looking for an easy, creepy read with a bit of romance.
