About this audiobook

The start of a brand new trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of THE WAY OF SHADOWS.

Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals.

But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

I tried with this book but found it difficult to like. The characters, the plot, the world it's set in..... how long it took to get to an important event could have been much shorter and it dragged on. Kip irritated me a lot, his character only ever seemed to have 2 sides; the pathetic boy or the brave fighter with nothing in between.
Also, I wasn't a fan of the way women were described and it wasn't something I'd want to see recurring regularly in other books written by Brent Weeks.

Nothing too deep that will show you a deeper perspective on life but it will most definitely keep you interested.
I don't know what others are talking about and complaining about with the fatphobia and "sexualization" of the female characters.

Why is this not Available in the US? Been waiting for the audio books for a long time now. Book is awesome, wishing I could listen to them.

I enjoy the plot and the magic system is interesting but this writer can't have a scene with a woman without mentioning their breasts. There is so much about how strong the women are but it feels very superficial and ends up feeling sexist. Also, I really hope the slavery problems are addressed and not just ignored and accepted.....

I have such mixed feelings about this book. It's trying to make women strong but ends up being kinda sexist. It's trying to include an imperfect main character but ends up fat shaming him. I could go on, but maybe these things won't bother you? It bothered me though.... I managed to finish the book, but I cannot decide if the book got better and so I wanna read the next book to see if it gets better still? Or maybe it just isn't good enough for me to waste more time on this series? Mixed review, mixed feelings, not sure if I will keep reading.
