About this audiobook
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most astonishing child prodigy in the history of music, is felt by many people to be the greatest composer who ever lived. Dominated and shaped by a highly intelligent but frustrated and ambitious father, his story sees the development of a unique genius, from precocious and often endearing childhood to liberated fulfilment, unexpected poverty, and a tragically early death. Generously illustrated by Mozart’s music, from his fifth to his final year, this portrait-in-sound reveals a fascinating yet elusive character, drawing richly on the words of the composer himself and those who knew him. This is the ideal way to understand more about Mozart the man, and his music. Throughout his life, he wrote numerous letters – to his father and his friends and pupils – and his musical colleagues wrote about him. On this entertaining recording, with parts read by various actors, Mozart himself comes to life – with his sublime music ever-present as his career unfolds.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Lacked a lot of detail and context to his life. Felt more like reading a long Wikipedia summary.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lovely. I am so happy to find a work that presents Mozart with debt because of his expansive taste rather than a gambling addict like the Mozart museum in Vienna does ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am enjoying these audiobooks of composers. The music is delightful. I would like to have known something about the Famtasia in d minor. Although Amadeus, the movie, was mentioned, it would have been very interesting to me if the book corrected some of the historical flaws of the movie.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Superb. Real insight to the life of a genius. Thank you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this and all the books on composers. The mix of narrative and their music is wonderfully done. Enjoyed it all very much! Going through them all one after the next! I especially loved this one with the personal letters that are read in character. I feel bad for the young Mozart as he has a father who was one of the first stage parents I would think. We think of Mozart as a rockstar now but his life was not all that glittered…he died so young and was buried in a “sack grave” which at the time was the norm…especially since poor Mozart died with such debt.
