About this audiobook

The last time Jess saw her father, she was a boy. Now she’s a high school graduate, soon to be on her way to art school. But first she has some unfinished business with her dad. So she’s driving halfway across the country to his wedding. He happens to be marrying her mom’s ex-best friend. It’s not like Jess wasn’t invited; she was. She just never told anyone she was coming. Surprise!

Luckily, Jess isn’t making this trip alone. Her best friend, Christophe—nicknamed Chunk—is joining her.

Along the way, Jess and Chunk learn a few things about themselves—and each other—which call their feelings about their relationship into question.

Honestly, I feel pretty nuke warm about the whole thing. Jess is pretty bitchy and self centered the whole time and Chuck deserved so much more. I didn't care for the whole road trip and the ended really pisses me off. Like, I'm all for people realizing they're in love with their best friend but can we really get a bit more variety. I've seen it before and it could have been a chance for Jess to grow more. And of course she realized at the end that she was a huge bitch to Chuck. Like I said, nuke warm

teen fic (road trip / best friend crush / trans girl in the midst of her hormonal transitioning confronts her estranged dad). Jess' art seems kind of douche-y, but I think that's because she's a self-centered teen? Somehow, Chuck can forgive her for basically not paying attention to him at all in the last 5 years of their friendship, and the story ends abruptly. I wasn't a huge fan of Jess' character, but that doesn't mean she can't still spread awareness for trans people, and the repartee between the two friends is entertaining and SAT-vocab-boosting.
