About this audiobook

In Lost Gods, Brom, the artist and author of The Child Thief and Krampus, brings readers into a dark, fantastical, masterful mix of brilliant illustrations and dazzling prose.

A young man descends into Purgatory to save his wife and unborn child in this gorgeous, illustrated tale of wonder and terror from the mind of master storyteller and acclaimed artist Brom.

Fresh out of jail and eager to start a new life, Chet Moran and his pregnant wife, Trish, leave town to begin again. But an ancient evil is looming, and what seems like a safe haven may not be all it appears . . .

Snared and murdered by a vile, arcane horror, Chet quickly learns that pain and death are not unique to the living. Now the lives and very souls of his wife and unborn child are at stake. To save them, he must journey into the bowels of purgatory in search of a sacred key promised to restore the natural order of life and death. Alone, confused, and damned, Chet steels himself against the unfathomable terrors awaiting him as he descends into death’s stygian blackness.

With Lost Gods, Brom’s gritty and visceral prose takes us on a haunting, harrowing journey into the depths of the underworld. Thrust into a realm of madness and chaos, where ancient gods and demons battle over the dead, and where cabals of souls conspire to overthrow their masters, Chet plays a dangerous game, risking eternal damnation to save his family.

Good but Brom's other books "Kramus" and "Child Thief", are way better. Kept waiting to become enthralled in the lore and story but didn't, not like the others.

This is going on my top 10 favorite novels of all time list! Vivid detail, yet perfect pacing. Vast settings and numerous characters, yet never confusing or overwhelming (and I even remembered every character’s name as soon as they were introduced; something rare for me when I read books). Great for readers knowledgeable about the various mythologies and religions referenced such as myself, but just as enjoyable if the reader is not familiar with the source materials used. And, though seemingly inspired by certain Greek myths (such as Orpheus and the Odyssey) and medieval tales (such as Dante’s Inferno and Purgatory and Milton’s Paradise Lost) a wholly original story in-and-of-itself that I daresay surpasses some of them. Overall just a fun read from a highly creative imagination! One hell (and “purgatory”) of a good time!

A wonderfully dark fantasy of death, hope, and will. This adult fairytale has a great protagonist, well paced, and I really enjoyed the different dynamics in the setting and the gods.

This is one hell of a journey. This is the first story by Brom I've listened to and I will listen to the others now. I don't want to give anything away but it's a fantastic story of the afterlife, angels, demons, Old gods and lost souls. This narrator is also amazing. My 12 year old son listened to it with me. We wanted to listen to the other Brom stories and hoped the narrator would be the same. Sadly, I have read that one is choppy and can't be listened to and the other one has a horrible accent!? Idk. I'll listen and see but man, THIS book is wonderful!!!! Excit

Sucks you in from the first chapter. Intriguing and utterly enjoyable listen! Compelling characters and very good writing. A little reminiscent of Neil Gaiman American Gods in that it involves some Gods and mythology. I enjoyed this book much more though! A treat ? Currently reading Brom’s Child Thief, good but very different.

This book is so much fun. Think American Gods but in Purgatory. Something like that anyway. This is no great work of literature but it is a very good story. It starts up quick and keeps a great pace through its entirety. It has a good ending as well. Highly recommended!

I came across this by chance but OMG ?? I highly, highly recommend. Every character is distinct and has their own voice - they come alive in the way few characters seem to lately. Lost Gods twisted fantasy and mythology perfectly. I decided 8 chapters in that I was also buying a paper copy - and looking up everything else Brom wrote!

This was a fun one, an excellent journey through the underworld, reminiscent of Greek tragedy. Expect instead of Heracles or Orpheus, our protagonist is named Chet. It was genuinely really good and the lore was cool. It dragged in a few spots but it came around. I recommend it if you're looking for a dark journey type of story.

I was intrigued by the reviews, rarely does a book have so many positives and no negative. When I first started to listen I thought, great ? another monotone reader, but as the book progressed I saw that the reader indeed did a great job! The story line was great as well. I’m glad I stumbled across it. All of the characters are well defined and stay true to their nature. Give this book a listen, you’ll be glad you did!

I always enjoy Brom’s novels. This ended up being a well done and dark epic fantasy novel. It does get a bit long at times, but overall I enjoyed it.The novel deals with a story about purgatory, religion and lost gods of old. Our anti-hero Chet ends up in purgatory after being murdered by an evil being and goes on an epic quest to stop this evil and save his wife. The world was well put together and Brom’s artwork was amazing, although I wish there had been more of it.My biggest gripe about this book is that it is told from so many different viewpoints. I think there seven or eight different viewpoints and many of the chapters were only a couple pages long. This made the story really disjointed and resulted in somewhat poor characterization. Overall this is a well done dark epic fantasy. I enjoyed the world-building but through the constant (and brief) viewpoint switches were distracting. I also thought many of the characters were underdeveloped (probably because there were so many of them). If you are a Brom fan you will probably enjoy this. However I liked “The Child Thief” a lot better than this book.
