About this audiobook

From Scirland to the farthest reaches of Eriga, Isabella, Lady Trent is known to be the world's preeminent dragon naturalist. Here at last, in her own words, is the true story of a pioneering spirit who risked her reputation and her prospects to satisfy her scientific curiosity; of how she sought true love and happiness despite her lamentable eccentricities; and how she made the first of many historic discoveries that would change the world forever.

Author

Marie Brennan

Marie Brennan is a former anthropologist and folklorist who shamelessly pillages her academic fields for material. She most recently misapplied her professors’ hard work to the Hugo Award-nominated Victorian adventure series The Memoirs of Lady Trent; the first book of that series, A Natural History of Dragons, was a finalist for the World Fantasy Award and won the Prix Imaginales for Best Translated Novel. She is also the author of the Doppelganger duology of Warrior and Witch, the urban fantasies Lies and Prophecy and Chains and Memory, the Onyx Court historical fantasy series, the Varekai novellas, the collaborative novel Born to the Blade, and more than fifty short stories. Slow, and the narrator thought true to the style of the book, irritated.

I enjoyed this book very much great narration look forward to the rest of the series. A fun adventure in an alternative Victoriaesque era where dragons exist.

Its "Jane Austin" meets "Game of Thrones" meets "On the Origin of Species". A bit slow in the beginning but the story does pick up towards the end.

A brilliantly crafted narrative, almost epistolary in its recounting, but not hindered by that. A tale of love, loss and triumph, tacked into an almost alternate history. The narration plays perfectly off the text and every reference to other texts on dragons "we must surely know" feels like coming home.

I really enjoyed the fantasy of studying dragons and the adventures derived from it.
The ideas of what could make them viable are rather entertaining.
