About this audiobook

"Heartfelt, funny, and utterly charming all the way through!"- Susan Elizabeth Phillips, USA Today and New York Times bestselling author

With joy, love and a little trepidation, Courtney, Sienna and Rachel invite you to the most emotional wedding of the year… Their Mother's.

The Misfit: Courtney
As the awkward one, Courtney Watson may not be as together as her sisters, but she excels at one thing—keeping secrets, including her white-hot affair with a sexy music producer. Planning Mom's wedding exposes her startling hidden life, changing her family's view of her—and how she views herself—forever.

The Free Spirit: Sienna
When Sienna's boyfriend proposes—in front of her mom and sisters, for crying out loud—he takes her by surprise. She already has two broken engagements under her belt. Should she say "I do" even if she's not sure she does?

The Cynic: Rachel
Rachel thought love would last forever…right up until her divorce. As Mom's wedding day draws near and her ex begs for a second chance, she's forced to acknowledge some uncomfortable truths about why her marriage failed, and decide if she'll let pride stand in the way of her own happily-ever-after.

Susan Mallery's newest release, Daughters of the Bride, is a charming standalone novel about three sisters preparing for their mother's upcoming wedding. In the three months leading up to the nuptials, each of the sisters deal with romantic issues that range from an unexpected engagement, a new relationship and a possible reconciliation with an ex-husband. It is an engrossing story that delves into the family's dynamics as each of the women examines how issues from their childhood still continue to define them.

Twenty-four years ago, Maggie Watson's world was completely upended when her husband unexpectedly passed away. With no life insurance or savings to fall back on, she lost their home but fortunately for her, local hotel owner Joyce Yates stepped in and offered them a place to live. This provided Maggie the opportunity to attend night classes while at the same time trying to keep her husband's faltering accounting business going. After years of struggling, she managed to find financial security but amid fears of losing everything again, she continued to work long hours. Never expecting to find love again, Maggie (with the help of with her three daughters Maggie, Sienna and Rachel) is happily planning the wedding of her dreams to fiancé Neil Cizmic.

Courtney is the youngest of the siblings and since she works at the hotel where the wedding is being held, she is most involved with the plans. She has a complicated history with her mom and while their relationship remains a little distant, she is quite happy to help with the wedding plans. Accustomed to her family underestimating her, she is still hurt by their continued doubts about her ability to successfully plan the wedding and reception.

Courtney is quite close to Joyce, her boss, mentor and friend, but she refuses to give in to Joyce's pleas for her to reveal the secrets she has been keeping. One of things she is keeping to herself is her new relationship with Joyce's grandson, Quinn. Since Courtney views their affair as a summer fling, she sees no reason to share the news with her family but it does not take long for everyone to figure out the two are involved. Once her family learns about the other secrets she has been keeping, Courtney is stunned by the varying reactions of her mom and sisters.

Oldest daughter Rachel married her high school sweetheart Greg and they have an eleven year old son, Josh. Divorced for two years, she is struggling to make ends meet while juggling her career and life as a single mom. Tired and still heartbroken over the divorce, Rachel is shocked when Greg becomes more actively involved with Josh. She is even more stunned when Greg admits to his role in the breakdown of their marriage and then begins asking her probing questions about the underlying reasons for some of her behavior during their marriage. With a better understanding of her knee-jerk reactions to certain situations, she gains a new perspective on how deeply her childhood is still affecting her but she remains unclear about what Greg wants from her. Courtney realizes she has never stopped Greg but is too late for them to salvage their relationship?

Middle sister Sienna is absolutely blindsided by her boyfriend David's proposal, but she cannot bring herself to turn him down. Wracked with doubts about their relationship, she begins to feel steamrolled by him and his family but he easily overcomes her objections. With two broken engagements behind her, Sienna is uncomfortable about breaking things off with David and she continually second guesses herself as she tries to sort out her feelings for him.

Written from multiple points of view, Daughters of the Bride is an engaging novel with a multi-layered, likable castt of characters. While there is a romantic element to the storyline, the plot mainly focuses on the growth of the characters and their individual relationships. Susan Mallery once again delivers a family-oriented story that is quite heartwarming, emotionally gratifying and incredibly uplifting.

While planning the wedding for their widowed mother, the three disparate daughters are focused on in varying chapters - Gangly Courtney, who finally grows into her height and awkwardness with the help of a music producer guest at the hotel, Sierra who is engaged to the wrong man, and Rachel who divorced her first love instead of saving her marriage.

I’m really glad to have chosen this particular book as my first Susan Mallery read.

In one word, this was a DELIGHT! I enjoyed it immensely, from the characters (and there are many!) through the dialogue and onward to humor, shedding a tear or two along the way.

This heartwarming story can teach all of us about family ties and what they really mean. It also perfectly takes you through some very emotional situations that require forgiveness and unconditional love, without it being too “preachy”.

If you want to be entertained and taken on a rollercoaster of emotions, this is the book for you!

Daughters of the Bride by Susan Mallery follows three sisters in the months before their mothers wedding. Rachel is the eldest who has trouble relying on others or asking for help, a character flaw which helped lead to the failure of her marriage. Sienna is the middle child who has had two broken engagements and is more focused on her work than love. Courtney is the baby of the family and after dropping out of high school and running away is trying to get her life back in order without any help from her family.
As these sisters, and their mother of course, get ready for the big day, they all must be brave and face what their decisions will do to everyone around them.

This book was so wonderful, I really did not want it to end. The characters were so unique and well developed that I forgot I didn't actually know them. I was rooting for all of them and felt each victory as though it were my own. I loved how they each developed more and more as the story went on and how their interactions with each other shifted as time went on.

This book was so well organized, having section dividers between each person's point of view. I never got confused as to who I was reading about at that time. They layout and plot was so well put together that I never got lost.

This book became one of my favorite books. This is my first Susan Mallery book and it is definitely not my last. I am so excited to read her other books now. I just hope they are all as good as this one was.

I recommend this book to anyone! Although it has more female attributes, I think even some men would appreciate this book.

Maggie has been a widow and raised her three daughters by herself while she tried (at one time failed) to keep a roof over their heads. The girls are now grown, Maggie has a successful business and she is getting married again. Her daughters will be bridesmaids and help to plan the wedding, even though Maggie has some over the top requests for the wedding. Sp the book is about Maggie's wedding but it's also about so much more -- her daughters have all had extra pressure put on them over the years and the way they view life plus their relationships with each other show the results of their younger lives. Sienna is the oldest daughter. She works at a non profit to help women who are abused. She is in a relationship with David but isn't sure that he's the 'one'. Rachel is divorced from her fireman husband but are there still feelings between them or are they just working together to raise their son? Courtney (who was my favorite of the sisters) is working as a maid at a hotel. Her family is all a little embarrassed because of her job but she is hiding a secret from them that she is almost finished with her college degree. Will she find love within her family and learn to love herself? This was a light, fun read and I really enjoyed it.

I always enjoy Susan Mallery's books, and this was no exception. The characters were real and vulnerable which make them more relevant to today's world. The mother is a widow who finds love again and wants the same thing for her three daughters, but the girls want just to get thru their mother's wedding.

The story focuses on three daughters, who were all nine and under when their father died unexpectedly, leaving their mother Maggie to become quite the businesswoman the keep the family together. Getting remarried now, later in life, the wedding seems to be a conduit for a lot of truths to come out. Youngest sister Courtney was left behind in school because of an unnamed learning disability and is very tall. Middle child Sienna becomes engaged for the third time to a man, David, that based on her job, should have had her noticing red flags right away. Oldest daughter Rachel is divorced from her high school sweetheart, but he’s stepping up to the plate this summer, and really helping her out with their son. The women seemed close, but not close. I don't think their margarita get togethers were doing their job. Definitely felt more like a regular romance than women's fiction, if that makes sense.

Although this is a book encompassing all three sisters, only one of the sisters gets the fullest happily ever after (descriptive sex). The other two sisters get a varying degree of HEA. Yes they all get the guy, but their stories aren’t as fully realized as Courtney’s is. Their stories are as interesting, but not as gripping since Sienna and Rachel don’t have the familial issues as Courtney does.Yes this is a book about secrets –and a second time bride who in my opinion, was a bridezilla. The secrets make this a frustrating read and the slow start to this book added to that frustration. I very nearly didn’t give this book enough time to grab me –luckily I did.
