Fantastic story of man kind in a kind light for once. A great listen.

The overall story told by the book was great, the element missing for me is the character development. It almost seems like each chapter of the book revolves around a different character, but after that chapter in some cases we never see that character again. Because of that there is no character development through the book. The book is very good at telling the military aspects of the story and you do not need to be a military person to enjoy the story. The ideas raised in the book about how we would handle the discoveries made and space travel seem realistic. My reason for a 4 star review instead of a 5 star on goes down to the character development. I just do not have a vested interest in any character. I have read the second book in the series and am currently reading the third and the character development gets better but is still lacking.
