About this audiobook

A riveting thriller of corporate intrigue and cutthroat competition between American and Japanese business interests

On the forty-fifth floor of the Nakamoto tower in downtown Los Angeles-the new American headquarters of the immense Japanese conglomerate-a grand opening celebration is in full swing.

On the forty-sixth floor, in an empty conference room, the corpse of a beautiful young woman is discovered.

The investigation immediately becomes a headlong chase through a twisting maze of industrial intrigue, a no-holds-barred conflict in which control of a vital American technology is the fiercely coveted prize-and in which the Japanese saying "business is war" takes on a terrifying reality.

Rising Sun was made into a film, starring Sean Connery.

"As well built a thrill machine as a suspense novel can be." -The New York Times Book Review

"A grand maze of plot twists… Crichton's gift for spinning a timely yarn is going to be enough, once again, to serve a current tenant of the bestseller list with an eviction notice." -New York Daily News

Michael Crichton is a great storyteller. Great plot, very believable characters, and enough twists to keep it interesting without losing continuity

Why would the lady provide so much information to some strangers and or cops about her neighbor before even knowing what’s going on. That’s called an information dump by the author. Wasn’t a realistic interaction. Really strange how that neighbor was used to dump/reveal so much information to the reader from out of no where.

They ended the conversation with “Ms young, you’ve been very helpful.”

    No crap

I really enjoyed it. It certainly made me think. The story itself was extremely well thought out and showed different aspects of Japanese thoughts and behaviour. I was left guessing till the end and was impressed at the complexity and the little nuances of the story.

Crichton is my favourite novelist but sometimes he can be cringey, and he often is in this book. A good story for sure, but after a while it feels extremely alarmist, and soaked in conservative ideologies. I have a thing where I can’t leave a novel finish unfinished, especially if I get into the story, but man, this was tough for a bit. In the end, I liked the story, but it did get cringey.

A must read in today's political climate. It will help understand the greed of American politicans and how easily our country can be portioned off.
